2015 Journey gauges going crazy
John/Horace replied to Dcarroll1002's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
CPS failure is pretty common on the 2.4. But happens on lots of models of other vehicles too. They are cheap enough that I change the in the 100k range to avoid any hazels. -
Controversial but interesting

Yeah he was wrong on so many levels, but still a reluctant patriot in the end. Maybe not a good cancel culture example. Stuff can be learned from history though, erasing not the right approach. -

I love assembly lines, I was through the truck and cars lines at GM Oshawa years ago, fascinating stuff. Cant use today’s standards to judge 100 yrs old issue really, cancel cultures favourite pass time. Your pbs does quite the hatchet job on Ford, I think he was a precursor to Elon, who also has his share of haters. Fascinating slightly flawed genuis s..who change things mainly for the good, but the good...always down played. https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwib9o6F0LDwAhVQcq0KHVTyAPsQFjABegQIAhAD&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pbs.org%2Fwgbh%2Famericanexperience%2Ffeatures%2Fhenryford-antisemitism%2F&usg=AOvVaw0UhdU1kGgrvA9c5gFAZOdm -
https://jalopnik.com/this-day-in-history-ford-makes-standard-the-40-hour-wo-1846801912 I loved the Ford museum in Ann Arbor, lots of great mechanical equipment and history there. Ford was a polarizing man in so many ways. Dodge was launched by the money the brothers made working for Henry Ford making car parts. Capitalism working.

brakes 2010 Dodge Journey SXT 3.5L

If it’s full of oil you could have an erg valve problem as well. Is engine going through oil. Scan for codes before buying parts.
-
No not really. Was it a used switch.? Could make up jumper wire for plug and try it without hood switch. Could be a damaged wire, follow it in the harness. Some times doing work under the hood wiring can get damaged. https://parts.motorcitychrysler.ca/a/Dodge_2011_Journey-SXT-Sport-Utility-36L-Pentastar-V6-FLEX-AT-FWD/_56655_6036868/ELECTRICAL-COMPONENTS/TK09192.html

Looks like purge shuttle valve for evap circuit. Shouldn’t have oil in it, just vacuum. Unhook a hose or follow it to intake on engine should prove it out. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/dodge,2011,journey,3.6l+v6,3015205,exhaust+&+emission,vapor+canister+purge+valve+/+solenoid,4936

After switch change is it still saying hood open. ? The switch sends a signal saying hood is closed for circuit to function. You would need a wiring diagram to follow where the wires go. Could be some component that is defective, relay etc or just a corroded connection some where. Was it working when bought it or are you just finding this now.

Glad you got it fixed. Where was the short in the harness, at fuse box. -
Horn Shuts down engine ONLY
John/Horace replied to Deadboltdon's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
I would try to get oem if you can, pretty important sensor. Should be plug and play normally. There is a manual procedure to teach it if necessary. Haven’t changed one on a dodge yet, several on other vehicles that were plug and play. Daughter in laws 2.4 had a random stalling issue from CPS . -
What a weird issue. On our 2014 the radio screen doesn’t light up with handle signal, just cluster gauges. But it’s enough lights to kill a battery. Maybe try locking door with physical keypad and not remote and see if it does anything. Then try with either remote. Is radio turned off before car is shut off, wonder if it is VSS(vehicle speed sensor for nav etc) signal from radio starting stuff back on again. Some combination in play is triggering problem, that might help trouble shooting.

Welcome to the forum. I’ve been trying to convince someone to spring for a six month Mitchel login, so this info would be easily available. You can go first if you like.? The 2009-10 models seem to have different specs because the under sized brakes were changed after that. For wife’s 2014 RT if IIRCC was 125 ft/pds bracket and 26 ft/pds guide pins for front and 100 and 24 for rear. Lug nuts 100 ft/pds is important, have had to retorque aluminum rims on this vehicle before. If your torque wrench is Princess Auto or Harbour Freight and not recalibrated in 10 years, exact torque specs not that relevant. But crazy over tightening caliper bolts/pins does matter, not hardened material and will stretch.

I’ve noticed on wife’s Journey the driver and passenger door handles, with the car off and dash dark, can cause the full gauge cluster to light back up again very easily. Either pressing the button on either handle or even just touching inside of handle if the remote is within 25 feet. If remote is inside house far away, then just pressing door handle button can cause cluster to light up. Hatch back manual button will also turn on all the gauge lights if pressed without remote near by. Radio screen, ours 8.4 is not lighting up during this time. It takes about 25 seconds for the triggered dash lights to cycle back off. I wonder if one of these buttons could be flakey and triggering the cluster. Could try electric contact cleaner sprayed into switches and some cycling. Just a thought.

Horn Shuts down engine ONLY
John/Horace replied to Deadboltdon's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
Horn and ignition wiring not connected, stalling probably co-incidence. Scan for codes and probably replace $30 CPS sensor. Unhook horn wiring plug and car will still stall anyway. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/dodge,2011,journey,2.4l+l4,1447563,ignition,crankshaft+position+sensor,7196 -
Horn Shuts down engine ONLY
John/Horace replied to Deadboltdon's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
Very weird problem. I wonder if it’s tied into cruise control some how, it’s wiring is in the steering column. Maybe pull fuse or relay for cruise control and see if horn still shuts car down. How many miles on car, which engine ? Any stored codes, check even if mil light not on. Cars shutting off without notice can be CPS sensor. Doesn’t always store a code. A wear part and not expensive. At $200 for an estimate, you could try a few educated guesses first. -
Any after market electronics add ons installed ?. Trailer hitch wiring added recently? Early for an alternator, especially since oem unit is Denso a very good make. Load test alternator with most dash stuff turned on and car running, should measure approx 13-14 volts under hood.

What style of wiretap For dash work? https://www.posi-products.com/posiplug.html I find this type bad for corrosion on exposed wiring like trailer hitches. No seal at all. https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwj2j9jwsKHwAhWDbm8EHSG4C8QYABAHGgJqZg&ohost=www.google.ca&cid=CAASEuRodRPdv4IMPdg035yS1I7z0w&sig=AOD64_0uNVI5jwgRZWG-1oorLDYrH8_Esg&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwiTv87wsKHwAhUTac0KHV9RCUoQ5bgDegQIARBk&adurl=

Maybe you can narrow it down to one fuse that you can pull for killing power. Easier than main ground. I had an F150 with a parasitic dash power issue. Problem was tied to a delayed power off feature for radio, that was triggered by aux contact on drivers door switch. Hours of searching in the cold to find it. Almost by accident.

The low resistance value of led bulbs creates a problem with can bus system in wire harness. Either load resisters can be added or can bus friendly bulbs, or maybe Alfaobd program to change settings for led bulbs. What are CAN Bus LED Bulbs? CAN Bus LED bulbs are LED bulbs which are made specifically for CAN Bus-equipped vehicles. These bulbs work with your vehicle's advanced computer system, so when your vehicle's computer reads them, they respond back correctly.F
