Bought mine new and until the engine went out all I've ever had to do is replace a heater hose. 152,000 miles and still even have the original brake pads.

Yeah and I never thought to check it before I put the engine in for that reason. I've never had that problem before.

It's fixed. I pulled the engine today and found the flywheel was loose. Tightened it up and it's as quiet as the 2.4 can be.

I've gone over it. Nothing external is loose and the oil pressure is good. I can hear the noise in the head, and when I get under it I can hear it in the block as well so I'm not sure if I should tear it down and check the bearings and all.

I'm going to go over it again. Maybe I forgot to tighten something external when I was putting everything back on?

It was an lkq engine. I will check the oil pressure. I put in a new timing chain kit before I put the engine in, so it's got new tensioners.

Could be. I'm assuming it was run hot since the head is brand new.

2014 SE 2.4L I haven't posted in a while. I took a break from the Journey issues, but I'm back. So I finally decided to find the cause of the engine knock. It turned out to be a bad main bearing and cracked piston. I bought a used engine with 64k miles on it, once I got it in and got it started, it was knocking as well. I pulled the engine and got a rebuild kit. After the rebuild it's still knocking, but the knocking goes away between 1500 and 2500 rpms. Anything below 1500 or over 2500 and the knocking comes back. I had a hard time finding torque specs for this engine and was thinking that maybe the rod caps and main caps are too loose?

lol it runs smooth it’s just that knocking. I pulled the coils today and they look and smell pretty burnt. The connectors even look like they got way too hot. Plugs even look and smell the same.

yeah we live on a dirt road, which is usually a mud road with all the rain we’ve gotten this year. Lol

When I take the cover off the engine it sounds like the lifters are hitting the valve cover

good idea.....as long as my wife doesn’t actually try to fill it with diesel. Lol

The only codes I could pull were for the VVT solenoid on the intake side so I replaced both of them and still have the knocking. I only have a basics code scanner so I am not sure what other codes are there, but the check engine light is still on so I’m assuming there are codes that my scanner can’t read?
