  1. I just got quoted an additional item on the heater core replacement for 3k, I imagine that this is also over charging right? a quick search online mentioned that this should be more ~$1k The total is very high so I cannot really afford this anymore since it comes up to $5k, just a safety concern, if I do not change this at all and accept the cold temperature in the car, is there any safety risk? Thanks!
  2. Hi, thank you both @2late4u and @5rebel9. Correct I live in the Boston area which is probably high in terms of labor rates but will look for more of a garage mechanic rather than a dealership like you mention. The journey is running fine and the temp gauge is working properly. The only issue is that heat is not coming out. I can go some more days without heat while I find a better price. I appreciate the guidance, have a nice day.
  3. Hi, I recently came back from a long time away and my Dodge Journey 2011 Mainstreet AWD 3.6L did not generate any heat. I took it to a mechanic and they quoted a solution for $1.731,60. The only information they shared is: MISC--pa--thermostat and coolant and cool flush kit. Is this a reasonable price? It is a large sum for my personal finances but also don't want my kids to freeze. Here are the 3 images I got.
  4. Hi, I know almost 0 about cars so when I have questions I come to this forum since in the past people have been very helpful. I have a 2011 Dodge Journey. I live in MA and I have to pass the yearly inspection. I took the car to the mechanic and he found a lot of issues. I currently cannot afford all the changes and would like some feedback into what I can delay until I get the money (maybe a two/three months delay). Inspection cost: $35 (I have to pay this no matter what) The break pads all need to be changed: $890 (one had already completely disappeared and the other 3 were very close to the end of their life) The front lower control arms have "bushing" cracks: $740 Wheel Alignment: $79.99 Left front hub and bearing assembly: $433 Changing the radiator: $555 (apparently it is completely broken and can lead to motor overheating - I never long distances but they told me that after 1 hour ride it will be risky) These are the costs and I would need to add the tax. I have attached some pictures in case they help. I was wondering if there is anything I can postpone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Mowgli
  5. Thanks 2late4u. I will do what the video suggests.
  6. Hi, I am not a car person at all, so forgive me for this simple question. I took my Dodge Journey 2011 to the mechanic today for an Oil Change after the message appeared. I realized when I took it for a spin later today that it still shows the message. In the past the message would disappear after taking it to the mechanic. Is this that they forgot to reset the message or could it be that they didn't perform the oil change at all? Any suggestions on what to do would be much appreciated.
  7. Thank you both tsteves5 and 2late4u, my takeaways are: I need to make sure that the cam shaft has not been damaged by the bad rocker arms (the bill could be higher) Find a mechanic who can do a non-cam removal repair and have them remove the valve cover to see if the cam shaft is damaged Leave the breaks for now until they are pulsating For the future rely on Youtube videos to make things cheaper Check with the dodge dealership about the potential warranty extension on this issue (but likely not going to help since it is out of age and miles) Let me know if I got something wrong. Thanks for the suggestions.
  8. Hi, I am new to this forum, so apologies if this is not the place or the way to ask this. I recently found a 3rd hand 2011 Dodge Journey Mainstreet 3.6L. I am not knowledgeable about cars but the price seemed adequate for the state of the car so I bought it for getting around. It has 136k miles on the odometer and it works well. I took it to the mechanic for a safety inspection and to change some filters. With the safety inspection I received two comments from the mechanic: Engine has tapping noise possible bad rocker arms Inspected brakes front pads 50% front rotors has uneven ware, rear pads 75% I am a bit tight on cash and the mechanic said that the 1st point would cost around 1.8k dollars. Not sure how to ask this but is this something I should be actively worried about and trying to solve in the short term? He said that this is typical of the 3.6L V6 motor, but to be honest I am not sure what are the implications. With regards to the breaks, they seem to work just fine is this something that can damage the car? Anyway, thanks a lot, and again, apologies if this is not the place to ask this.
