  1. I thought it seemed excessive. Just imagine how it feels when I accelerate hard! I kinda drive this like a grandpa because I don't like the hard shifting and jerking it does if I get on it. It will sort of shimmy too going into 6th gear. Which btw I have to ask, is it normal that it absolutely refuses to go into 6th until it hits 2000rpm? I will be cruising at 55 and it will be in 5th gear until I go over 2000rpm, then it goes into 6th. I have 95k on it and I know I'm about due for a fluid change, but I think mounts may be half of my problems.
  2. Here is another link to the video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1F87myKe4FoIzdnhywZ5rlrdLRLm75rU-/view?usp=drivesdk
  3. This is my 2017 DJ AWD with a 3.6L. When shifting I get jolts and hesitation. I had my wife record the engine bay while I shifted through all of the gears manually. It looks like it moves a lot but I'm not an expert. Also I'm hearing some strange noises in this video (other than my daughter ?). This is the link to the video. It's only available for 2 days tho, but I'm trying to upload it to my Google Drive. https://streamable.com/s8479y Can you guys tell me what you think?
  4. I am looking to get my fluid and filter changed on my 2017 Journey with the 3.6L AWD with 93,500. My local Dodge dealership quoted me over the phone about $300. I also asked about updating my computer and they said if there is an update they won't charge me, they'll just perform it as a recall. I can get in at super convenient times which is awesome. Is $300 a good price for this? I don't like the idea of doing it myself.
  5. Haven't had the funds to do the fluid change yet, but I am thinking of buying plugs and doing those very soon. I got the service history from the shop the previous owner frequented, and in the last 60k+ miles it hasn't had them replaced, if ever. I'm at 93,440 now and I know the mark is 96k on the v6, but I have hesitation shifting in the higher gears and also some hesitation in the low gears taking off from a dead stop unless I really get on it. I'm sure new plugs will alleviate most if not at of that.
  6. Ya I'm going to call another dealership. I'm thinking between the software update and fluid change I'm looking at about $400. I'll do the plugs myself as I've watched the video on it and it's not too bad considering how much they'd probably charge me.
  7. I called my local dealership yesterday and described my problem to one of the service techs. He said it sounds like a software issue rather than fluid or mechanical. He said to flash the PCM would cost $163 including the diagnostic fee, but they couldn't get me in until almost July! ?
  8. I really hate to revive this old thread, but I have the EXACT same issue as the OP... Literally to a T. Going between R to D is absolutely the worst. It shakes the whole car and feels like something is about to break. But shift between them a couple more times and especially after driving, and it's smooth as can be. I have about 93k on my 2017 Journey 3.6L AWD. I don't know if I should call a dealer and ask about a reflash or update, get the transmission fluid changed, or take it to a transmission shop for diagnosis.
  9. At this point I'm most concerned about the hard shift after a cold start (even though it's warmed up). It always slams into Drive at least the first time, after that I can immediately switch back into park or reverse and back into Drive and it will be fine. Bit when it slams it's hard enough to jar the whole vehicle and everyone feels it. After I've been driving it goes in and out of drive smooth as silk. I'm starting to suspect it's the transfer case because obviously SOMETHING is warming up/lubricating and changing the behavior. I'm convinced the shudder/vibration is directly related to the hard shift issue.
  10. My warranty is third party through WYNN. I'm not too thrilled about that as I've heard some bad things about them, however I paid a little extra for the Plus plan that covers a lot more than their Powertrain warranty. But I have 3 years/36k miles. I'm a little reluctant to change the fluid myself because of the importance of proper levels. ?
  11. Thanks for that info! I'll start getting quotes for changing the oil and filter then. Should I have the diff fluid changed as well? About how long should rear struts last on these vehicles? I was thinking perhaps it's a worn strut or mount causing the rear end shutter. I can feel it over bumps as well as when just cruising.
  12. Thanks for the reply! I did buy it from a local lot and not a private party. The shutter feeling seems to be coming from just the rear driver's side at this point. You say possibly the transfer case... Do you think the hard shift into Drive and the rear shutter are related? I've done some reading on trans and diff fluids and I read they can cause hard shifting, but I also know changing trans fluid can do more harm than good after a certain point.
  13. I just bought my 2017 Dodge Journey GT AWD a few weeks ago and I'm having some issues I'm not able to pinpoint. It has 92K miles and it's a V6 AWD with all new brakes. For starters I'm having a very hard shift into Drive the first 1-2 times after a cold start. I will reverse out off my driveway or parking spot at work, put it into Drive, and bam! It shakes the whole car. After this it normally goes in and out of gear smoothly. Sometimes if I circulate between P,R,N,D after a cold start it will slam one, then again after I've actually backed up. It seems a little hesitant to shift sometimes at cruising speeds, but if I get on it there's no issue. Also, I was having a lot of vibrating and shaking yesterday on the expressway. I know more often than not shaking past 45+mph is usually tire balance so I just had all 4 balanced. On the way home I took the eway briefly and while it is better, I still feel a shutter/vibrate from the rear. I've never owned an AWD vehicle and I know they have a lot more components on the rear axle than FWD. Honestly this is even my first Dodge as I've only owned Chevy for the past 15 years. Could there be a relation between the hard shift into Drive and the rear end shutter? Bad wheel bearing? Something in the transfer case? Should I have trans and diff fluid changed out? According to the maintenance records I received, it hasn't had either changed ever. I bought an extended warranty but I'd like to gain some insight on the causes beforehand because we all know how extended warranties work ? Thanks in advance!
