I am certainly not questioning Jay regarding his mileage at all, but I have said it before in my personal vehicle the EVIC is usually .7-1 liter better in mileage than I got in reality depending whether it was city or highway driving. This is my car only and yours may differ. Terry

I should have said dealer reset. Terry

Sorry to do this to all of you, I can't find the post in the last week or so, regarding the Menu Reset, could somebody be kind enough to post the instructions for getting a menu reset. I believe it was something like push the up & down driver temperature controls + another button. Terry

Firmware upgrade 8.4N
Windancer replied to Kienah's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
My vehicle is a 2010 and it uses a Navteq system, I have upgraded twice since buying it and both times the upgrade was shipped on a cd/dvd. When I talked to a Navteq Customer Service represenitive, he told me in his opinion every other upgrade is really all you need. His words not mine! Terry -
I realize that my vehicle is a 2010 and has many differences from a 2011, but I can dim my instrument cluster or any of the interior lights or even turn them off completely using the dimmer switch. I often do this if I am outside working on the vehicle and have any of the doors or hatch open for extended periods. On another note why would you have the ACC on during a movie? I thought you were watching the movie.Just curious that's all. Terry

Thanks Steph, very interesting read. Terry

I don't mean to hijack the OP original thread and will start a new one if necessary. At the risk of starting a huge debate, I would like to hear pros and cons of using synthetic oil vs. regular oil. The reason I ask is, I am very fortunate I have not paid for an oil change in 20 years, as my dealer gives me a free oil change every three months or 5000 kms. In this oil change he uses a Chrysler recommended oil and filter. I am just wondering if synthetic oil would be an improvement for me. I would have to pay for the synthetic oil during these oil changes which obviously is not a big deal. As I said I was just looking for opinions on the pros and cons of using synthetic oil vs. regular oil. If you could comment Chris it would be appreciatted. Terry

I think I can honestly say that my mileage has not improved significantly in the 2 years i have owned it, even though my 2010 Journey now has 21,000 kilometers (13,000 miles). I certainly agree with bigtsr that the high idle times experienced in Vancouver would be a contributing factor to the poor mileage that you experienced. I have to fill up today and I'm sure it will be around the 18l/100 mark as this tank was all city driving with my kayaks on top. Terry

Ricky I'm really sorry to hear that you got such poor mileage from your Journey. Even in the middle of winter here, where it can be very cold, with constant long periods of warm ups, lots of snow etc. my mileage has never been that poor. I don't want this to sound the least bit condescending, but are you sure of the math? Is it possible that you may have made a small error with the numbers? Just curious that's all. Terry

Chris What would you recommend to as what we all should do? I have a set of water resistant seat covers made specifically for this application that I would like to put on my front seats to protect my leather seats as I windsurf and kayak a lot. Terry

Personally I am very glad that mine came with the rails, as I make use of them all the time. My racks were immediately used when I bolted them on to my cross members, for both for my 4 windsurfing boards and my 2 touring kayaks as shown in the photo. Terry

Thanks Marius, although white was not my first choice but it grew on me very quickly. Now I probably wouldn't have it any other way. It's easier to keep clean and when it is dirty it doesn't seem as bad. Of course this is my subjective opinion. When I purchased my car off the lot, I had a choice of 4 R/T AWD's, a white one, a black one and 2 light steel blue ones. I didn't really like the steel blue ones, I knew from my previous car how difficult black was to keep clean so I went with the white one which still had much of the shipping plastic still on it. One thing about this vehicle was that it had every option available to a 2010 R/T AWD on it. I haven't regretted my decision in the two years I have owned it. As far as all the aftermarket stuff is concerned, most of it was installed (or at least ordered) through my dealer. The chrome step bars were ordered through my dealer (can get you the part number if you want) and put on in January The air deflectors, (both hood & sunroof) are Mopar The chrome gas tank cover is Mopar The chrome R/T emblems came from my dealer. Several other members have these and I quite liked them so I decided to order them. The "chrome" Buick portholes, while not everyone's "cup of tea", were left over from my PT Criuser The "chrome" moulding on my front valence and on both air deflectors was again something that was left over from my PT Criuser. The roof racks look very odd by theselves, but do a great job of transporting my 4 windurfing boards or my 2 kayaks. I realize that some of the things are not what everybody may do to their vehicle, but it makes it unique and individual. This is something I really learned with my PT because it seems you either love them or hate them. Terry

Thanks Moparman, very interesting read. Terry

There are lots of us. Welcome....... Terry

Caper; I used "magic erasers" on my chrome clad wheels and they removed all the stubborn brown "rust" spots on my wheels. They did a great job on my vehicle's wheels. I have also put a light coat of spray wax on my wheels for some added protection. Terry

2010 White Dodge Journey R/T AWD - Side Bars
Windancer commented on Windancer's gallery image in Dodge Journey Member Albums
Thanks Caper, my dealer put them on according to the enclosed instructions so I assumed they were put on correctly. These step bars came directly from Mopar, I will try to get you the part # ASAP.I must admit with the bars being a little higher they stick out the furthest and will protect my doors from parking lot door dings. -
I was only asking because the wax is also white........LOL. I did claybar the car last year and it turned out well. Terry

While a great solution for the everyday problems, there is no doubt that Dre's solution would not be good for Caper's problem. I will try to get you some photos Caper when I get home tonight. Terry
