well installed a curt hitch a while back with the intentions of buying a scooter cargo carrier for the back of the journey so got to checking them out and decided to go with discount ramps to buy from. well decide to talk to a handicapped store in town and they told me that with the journeys tongue weight of 200 lbs that they wouldn't recommend that i use one as i would be over what is recommended from dodge. so i checked the book and dodge says journeys have a 200 lbs tongue weight limit and since the carrier i bought weighs in at 65 lbs and her scooter weighs in at 160 lbs for a total of 225 lbs of tongue weight, the hitch is rated at up to 400 lbs tongue weight doesn't count. well even tho i will be over by 5 lbs i dont think we will have any problems but i sure didnt anticipate all this when i started out looking for something for her scooter. all that time we were out in Vegas and i had to lift it up and slide it into the hatchback which kind of got my back to hurting...anyway the scooter rides up the ramp on this carrier real easy and just tie it down with some straps and lift the ramp back up and off we go,also when not in use the carrier lifts up and is about 5 inches from the back of the hatchback only bad thing about that it kind of blocks my rear back up cam, but when the scooter is loaded on in it the camera still gets pretty good vision back there. just ordered a cover for the scooter from discount ramps, they are a little pricey but they are always offering 10-15 discount with free shipping so kind of evens out.one other hting of course all these carriers are made in china so there was one bracket that was bent but my sledge hammer fixed that and then had to touch up some scrapped parts with some black paint... used it this afternoon and went to my daughter's, house to pick up her pressure washer to clean the concrete drive in the morning so it's doing double duty since i sold my truck and i am now kind of regretting doing that...

like jkeaton said get it checked. Most auto stores auto zone , advance auto. will check them both for free. has the battery been changed or is it the org one? check all your connections and wires for any problems or as dusty265 says it could be the alt. either way good luck

well with people buying these fancy cars that will drive themselves and then read a book or watch a dvd while the car is doing its thing, its crazy.when i am a passenger in a car on a long trip i end up taking a snooze. and sure,it works great at first so did my computer but after a while i have to reboot it after it freezes up i dont want to have to reboot my car when my life depends on it....

okay so much is being said about letting the car drive for you, hmm wonder what everyone else thinks about this future option? i myself wouldn't trust them and dont believe they will be coming in the near future,so many things to go wrong hell sometimes my air condition starts coming out of the wrong vents, or my doors unlocking and beeping at me after i have got out and locked the car and walking away. Or the big one you are going down the interstate 70 -80 mph and the cars doing its thing but of course you are supposed to stay awake or not read a book or any other crazy thing.and just think about insurance wise who what will happen in a accident everybody blaming each other just like the air bag replacement from Takata and they are going broke. just last year me compass in my journey forgot which way was north or south, east or west had to reprogram it by driving in a circle in a large parking lot to reset it, Would trust a Uber or Lyft driverless car to take you around town in vegas with all their drunk drivers ... LOL what do you all think?????

that is the site i bought my mopar extended warranty from.He sells the plan a lot cheaper than you can get from your reg dealer. is it worth it? it depends on how long you plan to keep your journey. i plan on driving mine till the wheels fall off i have a 2014 crossroad and already have over 50 k on it, at about 40k after the reg warranty went out i had a problem with the oil pressure sending unit go bad while i was out of town on a trip, so i took it to the local dodge dealership where i was staying ,and they gave me a rental car free of charge and and about 6 hrs later called me said the journey was ready all it cost me was $100. deductible and $7 dollars for tax on something, i asked how much would this have cost without my extended ed warranty and he said between 450 -500 including the rental car. so i am glad i bought the max lifetime miles and yrs warranty with a 100 deductible per occurrence as long as the repair doesn't cost more then what the journey is worth at the time of repair i am covered.. and it is a MOPAR warranty good at any dodge dealership in the USA...

i was just looking and i found about 20 of them riv nuts in a jar mixed in with other bolts and things when i worked at the chrysler minivan plant in st louis i was a Quality Control person and while we were inspecting the van going down the line we were supposed to pick up the screws and other parts left in the van after being dropped there during assy. i saved all the small screws and such and put them in a jar and since chrysler would throw things like that away as they didnt want to take time to sort that stuff out they would just throw it away, i would take it home with me....after 2 yrs up there i have a good assortment of fasteners and screws and small parts.....LOL you could probably find them riv nuts at any good auto store or go to your local body shop they would have some.....

that is a riv nut insert ( at least that was what we called it)that is pressed into the body metal. using a oversize screw can damage the threads and also cause it to start to turn and loosen its grip on the metal body . if it is loose it needs to be removed and a new one inserted which requires a special tool to do it. the riv nut insert is inserted into the hole then the screw is tightened until the outer edge is pulled up tight around the body. kind of like a rivet it call easily be drilled out it is just made of aluminum and a new one put in just be careful nut to drill it out making the hole oversize for the new one you are putting in...

well since i have put about 5k more decided to rotate my tires myself even thou i have lifetime rotation and balance at walmart just wanted to check my brake pads front and rear and they look great almost cant even see any wear on them and have 50650 miles on the speedo so the new upgraded brakes are doing a great job. tires looked great, real even wear on them dont have a tread depth gage but they look like the are giving good wear on them i put on cooper c5 tires at 36 k as the kumhos didnt hold up real great with these 19 inch wheels like my 17 inch kumhos did.....

sorry to hear, guess you could go for a replacement engine from a scrap yard like lkq of course it would be on your own dime, keep us advised on what happens..

every auto stores or walmart sells them, of course you still need air after you plug the tire, i went to my local gas station and asked if i should have them remove the plug and put in the kind that is a plug with a patch over the back of it and of course you have to remove the tire to do that and he said he wouldn't bother to do that since he heard what kind of plug i used. amazon sells a kit for about $ 35 -40 for the good model with the oversize plugs, they are about 7 inches long instead of the smaller 4 inch ones you buy from walmart or the local auto parts store....i am going to go buy me a small travle air compressor and a good plug kit just in case this happens again out on the road... it sure saved us a lot of time and extra work.

well just got back from our 40 day trip to vegas and back from alabama, 4540 miles round trip used 193.4 gal of gas, for a total of $384.99. avg price of gas was $1.99 gallon with the cheapest in oklahoma city for $1.75 a gallon. avg mpg 23.47 for the whole trip, worst mpg about 17 mpg in vegas due to lights and traffic and best about 30.2 on the way back for 2 tanks of non stop freeway driving with the elevation going down hill all the way.. journey loaded up with luggage and my wife's 3 wheel medical scooter so i was quite happy with the mpg we averaged on the trip. Wife got sick after about a week after we got there with strep throat so we had to find a dr and just about the time she started feeling better my sinuses started acting up so i was messed up for a week or so, but we managed to get thur it till the end. only one small problem after leaving Albuquerque in New Mexico the temp dropped that nite so the next moring the low air tire pressure start going off showing about 29lbs so i hunt up a gas station for air and fill them up to about 38 psi and off we go heading out on I-40 heading home and so i am keeping an eye on the tire pressure and they increase to about 40 psi after warming up so about after about 30 minutes way out in no mans land i check the pressure and the right front is showing about 33 psi so i starting wondering what was wrong and after about another mile down the road it drops to 32 then a little later 31 so about that time i see the next exit which was Clines Corner so i pull over and pull up to their air pump and i am showing 29 psi and low and behold a big old screw towards the outer edge of the tire. so not wanting to have to unload the rear to get the tools and lower the spare i go inside and ask if they have any tire plugs or boots and she says if we do they would be hind you on that self and of course their are none, so i head back out and their are about 20 cars and trucks with horse trailers so i start asking everyone if they had any tire plugs and after about 10 vehicles one of the cowboys pulling their horse trailers says sure do here it is.MAN i was so happy so i go over and put some more air in the tire and pull the screw and put in the plug and pump the tire back up to 38 psi and took the kit back to the cowboy and thanked him so much and offered to pay him and he wouldnt take nothing for letting me use the kit. Now i have a plug kit at home but it wasn't nothing like his kit his plugs were golden brown and sticky as hell and looked twice as large as the kits you buy around here. he said that plug wont come out on you. so we thanked him again and wished them well on their travels to their next rodeo, didnt have any more problems with the journey on the way home. boy that 3.6 with the 6 spd trans sure is a pleasure to drive thur the mountains at freeway speeds. sure wouldn't want to go back to the 3.3 engine with the 4 sp trans that i had in my caravans yrs ago. didnt lose that much gambling that we thought we would but didnt win that much either so we still spent less on our trip then we would have if we had went to florida or hawaii for just a week or two. of course our hotels were all comped so we just had to pay for our meals and gifts for the kids.well done two loads of dirty clothes and cleaned up the car so guess ill call it a night and hit the hay.....

2014 Jouney 225/55/r19 need to switch to something better?!?
2late4u replied to Whitney's topic in Wheels & Tires
i am using the 235 55 19 cooper c5 on my 2014 so far i really like them i got a great deal thur discount tires online if you order thur them its best to wait for a holiday they always run extra discounts then. i didnt get the warranty and just them down to walmart had them mounted and balance lifetime for 14 a tire.ordered thwm on a fri nite delivered on tue morning also checked the age of the tires and they had just been made less then a month of getting them. -
you probably damage the tpms as they reset themselves or they go bad from age, are the rest of the tires reading okay and just the one not reading, or all of them not reading?

Power Steering failure but everything seems intact
2late4u replied to cheseroo's topic in Brake, Chassis & Suspension
id least get it to a local dealer or good mechanic nearby for a quick thought of what they think is wrong with it.better hope its not the rack and pinion unit as that would be really expensive and difficult to replace more likely to be the power steering unit if want a guess. -
well hate to see you leave but hey at least you bought ford, about 6 months ago i bought a but load of ford stock for a quick flip but since thin it has went down about $3. a share so i am stuck in it but at least it pays a great dividend so with that ill get even in 3 yrs. even if it doesn't go back up, but it will go back up they have a great line up in trucks and with them redoing the super duty trucks that will start paying off in the coming yr. but i digress, so anyways dont drop a load of concrete blocks into your truck bed like the chevrolet people do theirs, lol, if you know what i mean.....

i wouldn't ever buy a awd vehicle, i always by just fwd never had the need for awd just more problems and with a lot more expensive parts to repair....
