Can't Unlock Maps
redtomatoman replied to lanc747's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Just for fun, I went to the Uconnect update site to see what it would say for my vehicle, and I found this update for my 2011: Update 1: UCONNECT®8.4_MY11_DODGE_RADIO_15_17_19_RE2_RE3_RE6_RB4_RB5_RB6 Service Bulletin ID: 08-055-15 Release Date: 2014-09-15 Should I do this update??? Peace. -
Can't Unlock Maps
redtomatoman replied to lanc747's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
I have been watching this debacle unravel. . . While I have not had this "Can't Unlock Maps" issue on my 2011, I do indeed have a 2016 map update for my Nav unit. I can't remember, but I believe I purchased directly from Garmin. I hope I do not have this issue on my 8.4N unit. Peace. -
REAR BUMPER RUBBER GUARD PROTECTOR PAD
redtomatoman replied to Angel Carrillo's topic in Exterior & Body
I ended up installing one meant for a caliber. It doesn't cover the entire bumper, but it looks nice and covers most of the top for protection when I need to stand on the bumper to put cargo on the roof rack. Try eBay. I have seen some metal ones there. Good luck. Peace. -
I drive easily unless I'm getting after the throttle for some reason. When that's the case,I get after it. . . I also tend to have a lot of roof cargo; bike or surfboard. I get about 19mpg in town and anywhere from 22 to 25 on the highway with cargo. Wind, headwind especially, markedly affects efficiency with these engines more than one would think due to the 6 speed transmission. I think more gears would be better, but 6 is what we got. Overall, great engine. Smooth, powerful, quiet. Don't expect 30mpg. peace.

I didn't know there was such a thing as tire plugs. I mean, I knew that there were plugs for tires, but I thought the tire had to be deflated and the plug inserted into the tire only after the tire was deflated and off of the vehicle. I never realized there was a DIY kit to use with air in the tire for roadside emergency situations. Seems easier than getting the spare for a nail or screw puncture. Peace.

Oh yeah, it is quite low profile. . . I can add pics if you want. Peace. -
Cargo Baskets (Share your pics)
redtomatoman replied to Richie Schatz's topic in Accessories, Modifications
I fabricated a lightweight rack that does the job. It attaches to my Yakima crossbars. It is not good looking, but allows cargo to go on my roof in addition to two mountain bikes. Are you looking to fabricate one or buy a commercially available rack? Peace. -
Cruise Control doesn't always turn "ON"

Switch, clockspring, or sccm (steering column control module) are the first things to check. Peace. -
Would crown vic center caps fit 5x127 wheels?
redtomatoman replied to martinsen073's topic in Wheels & Tires
Anything from Ford will definitely damage your wheels. Probably make the transmission fail too. Peace. -
Yeah! What BrianS said! Peace.

looking for opinions on p0305 cylinder 5 misfire
redtomatoman replied to Sprskte's topic in Engine & Transmission
I will preface by saying this: I am not a mechanic. The first thing I would do is question your cylinder compression tester. 190 sounds quite high. If so, cyl 5 may be 10 or 15. Just sayin'. My 2011 had the cylinder 2 misfire and bad head issue. I understand that the engines are not the same. Rather than throwing expensive parts at yours, I'd get a diagnosis from a Dodge service center. If you can fix it, then do so. If not, let them handle it. Good luck. Peace.- 8 replies

NEW SITE DESIGN: 16 July 16
redtomatoman replied to robertlane's topic in Forum Help and Suggestions
I hate the new forum design. It sucks. It's better at displaying advertisements than posts. Makes me hardly contribute. I can't even see half of the posts. The go to topic listing is worthless. Please change it to something that is user friendly. Peace. -
I don't have one, but an OBD 2 reader will do the job, I believe. Peace.

engine damage Low oil, engine noise....now what?
redtomatoman replied to pmjay's topic in Engine & Transmission
Glad you got your DJ fixed. I would echo the "check your oil" sentiment. Peace. -
PO302 is a misfire on cylinder 2. Could be the cylinder head or the cam phaser. Faulty head will fail compression testing. Refuse to pay for diagnosis if it's the cam phaser or cyl head. They are well known to Dodge. A good Dodge service center will provide a loaner. The job is about 12 hours of labor. Straight forward job for a competent technician. I've had both the phaser and left head replaced. Good luck. Peace.

Keep us posted. . . Good luck! Peace. -
Leave the FOB hidden in the car. Use the black lock button on the outside door handle to lock all the doors. It will take 3 times for the DJ to "agree". On the third attempt, the DJ will lock and the alarm will arm. When you come back, you can unlock with the metal key. The alarm will sound until you press unlock on the FOB. I do this when I go surfing. Baggie won't suffice for that. I had a completely metal key made at ACE hardware. Works fine. If you're really nervous about theft, use a steering wheel club. I don't worry. Our DJs are nice, but they ain't no Hellcat that someone would work especially hard to steal. Peace.

engine damage Low oil, engine noise....now what?
redtomatoman replied to pmjay's topic in Engine & Transmission
Make sure the oil is full. My opinion, take it to a dealer so you can get a mopar tech diagnosis. The noise could be the exhaust manifold gasket or something unrelated as bram suggests. The lack of engine symptoms says to me that this could be coincidental. If the dealer says you need a new engine, drive it to a mechanic you trust (no harm in driving it if you need a new engine anyway), and have a used engine installed there. Lightly used engines are fairly inexpensive. Best of luck to you. Peace. -
I'm thinking about installing a towing hitch. I know very little about towing. My R/T does not have the towing package. I would like it to be fairly hidden as I don't like the look of some hitches that are very visible. Any suggestions for a hitch that is more subtle and hidden? Any pics would be appreciated. Thanks. Peace.

Maybe others have heard of this before, but I hadn't. . . I followed the procedure shown in this video. So far my windshield has been great in our monsoon rain and the bugs hardly stick. Cool easy trick to improve vision through the windshield. Peace.

Has anyone yet had an oil leak on their 3.6? I have not. I really hope that these cars are not plagued by oil leaks. I'd like to think oil leaks are something we DJ owners will not have to deal with if we take care of our engines. Just wondering. Peace.

Not sure what happened here. Got the wrong car? IDK. It doesn't matter if I understand. Honestly, if you really want a different model and you just got the car, why not just trade it in for the model you want? I know that's not cost effective, but all the $$, aggravation, and effort to upgrade would suck. I think in your case a trade may make sense if every day you'll lament driving the one you got. I love my 3.6 8.4 R/T. Welcome to the forum. Peace.
