Extended warranty
redtomatoman replied to jkeaton's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
Good job. I got the warranty as well. Haven't yet used it in 44k+ miles. If I didn't have it, I'd be at the service department all the time. Murphy phenomenon. Peace. -

2015 DJ R/T Pricing:
redtomatoman replied to Matt Himpler's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
Sure. Why not? I talked my dealer down from over $33000 USD to just over 27000 for my 2011 R/T. It took me two weeks, but I got it done. These dealerships still make money. They won't do a deal that is bad for them. Price dickering is a scam, fixed pricing is a scam, driving a new car off the lot and losing 5 grand in a day is a scam. Pick the car you want, get a deal you can live with, and never again discuss it. That's the idea. Everyone loves getting a new car! Enjoy. Peace. -
how to update the navigation
redtomatoman replied to kitt's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Correct. Peace. -
Holy Mackerel! If that thing was produced by Dodge in the US, I don't think they would be able to keep them on the lot. Cool video. Peace.

I have some pictures of my 2011 with 255/50/19 Continental DWS Extreme Contact tires installed in my redtomatoman gallery. Peace.

I don't work for Sirius radio, I promise. The other thing I really like is a the variety of talk. News, Howard, NFL, sports, NPR are a few of the easily accessible channels on Sirius that I listen to often. Whatever. If you don't want it I get it, but to all those who have the freebee now, check it out fully before you decide. Peace.
-
Just curious who on the forum has kept or plans to keep their Sirius Radio subscription active after the 1 free year. For me, I love having Sirius and I even have the Travel Link as part of my subscription. Commercial free music is great, IMHO. And I can take my same stations everywhere I drive; really like that. I pay about $200 american per year which works out to about $16 per month. It seems many let their subscription lapse. Not sure why. The way I have it figured, we pay nearly $100 per month to get a bunch of dopey text messages and allow others to constantly bother us with voice calls all day, so $16 per month for commercial free music is a real deal. Peace.

While I haven't had to replace my TPMS units, I'm 99% sure they are relatively cheap and easy to replace. I'd do that if I was in your position. Salt corrodes everything. Peace.

Stock Kumo tires in snow = slippery trip
redtomatoman replied to probak118's topic in Wheels & Tires
Never said kumhos were superior or equal to winter tires. I'm saying that the set of kumhos that I had were just as good as any other all season tires that I have experienced. I'm going out on a limb maybe, but my experience with those kumhos leads me to believe that they are a good as any other all season tire. Notice, I didn't say the kumhos are as good as slicks at the racetrack or as good as mud tires off road on a rainy day. Just sayin'. Ha. Peace. -
Silly rabbit,Chevy's are for kids. Be careful with the knobs and all things plastic. I love Chevy engines, but their interiors are as cheaply made as toys from China. I loved our '99 Blazer, but by 80,000 miles all the knobs and buttons were broken. I mean everything. Vise-Grips on both seats, aftermarket knobs on the radio, buttons for HVAC cracked. . . It all still worked, but crappy buttons I tell you. Peace.

Stock Kumo tires in snow = slippery trip
redtomatoman replied to probak118's topic in Wheels & Tires
I liked my kumhos. They weren't the best tires in terms of wear. I got 42,000 miles out of 60,000 mile tires. I felt that the straight away street traction was pretty good and the rain/snow performance was as good as any other tire out there. Tires depend on driving style. Some people really push their vehicles hard. I think the relatively soft sidewalls on the kumhos were both their greatest strength for some b/c they provide a great ride and greatest weakness for others b/c they flex and wear on hard turns. Some people buy summer tires and expect them to grip in 6" of snow. Not gonna happen. Then they complain about it all over the interwebs. Ha. Peace. -
I believe the awd system in the DJ is BorgWarner. Some type of on-demand transfer case. That's all I know. Peace.

Ha! Hockey players are super tuff. What else can I say? I'm just not that tuff. I don't feel like I want to break the ice on top of the lake to swim either. Maybe I hate winter because my DJ doesn't have the heated steering wheel option? Not sure. Peace.

Winter sucks. Hate it. Almost no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Snow, ice, and, worst of all, salt all over the roads. Here they pour that ugly brown cinder rock with the salt so that crap is all over the garage. That cinder invariably gets tracked into the house where I step on it in my bare feet. Ice all over the front porch, even after salting. Dark at 5. Trails covered in snow so no mountain biking. I hate it, but at least its a good excuse to get to the tropics. Yay! El Salvador surf trip in February! Can't wait to make some vitamin D. Peace.

Just joined 2015 Dodge Journey Family. Couple questions.
redtomatoman replied to AR7's topic in Welcome!
Paid $27K OTD in 2011. Expect 24-30 mpg depending on driving conditions and style. Keep in mind that mileage will continue to improve until 8000 miles or so. Congrats. Peace. -
Coming in late here. . . CR is just silly and steeped in opinion. The DJ is a large Avenger. Its a car (CUV). I kinda think the Pentastar DJ already is quite a sleeper. It will quietly blow the doors off of most vehicles on the road, and I feel like the suspension is quite good. When I take a corner at speed, there is almost no suspension dive. It isn't going to handle like a sports car because it is very top heavy (especially with bikes, surfboards, and gear on the roof Ha!). FWD hinders some, and while AWD may be better, its heavy and can be just another thing to cause problems. I once entered an off ramp intended for 25mph at 60mph unintentionally, the brakes and suspension handled that situation well enough to keep me alive, keep my DJ on the road, and the impress the passengers in the back seat with its performance. I looked pretty stupid, but my DJ saved my @$$. I have been happy with my purchase since 2011. Still runs like the day I brought it home. Peace.

Navigation Display Settings
redtomatoman replied to BlissMan's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
OK. Whatever. Sounds like you have it set just how you want it. Was trying to help. Auto. No auto. Hopefully what I posted was helpful to someone. I'm out. Peace. -
Navigation Display Settings
redtomatoman replied to BlissMan's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Fine. You don't have auto headlights. Set the interior rotator switch just below the lowest detent and leave it there. It will dim the screen display when you manually turn your headlights on. Peace.
