Evic Notifications
redtomatoman replied to bigtsr's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Best I can tell, my EVIC dings when I start up with the emergency brake engaged to remind me to disengage it. I have not had any dings while driving. Peace. -
Tire rotations will have no effect on your tire monitoring system (TPMS). It does not care which tire is where, it just monitors the pressure of the tires at each tire position. At least that is my understanding. If you put new tires on your same rims, there will be no effect on your TPMS. If you change rims, but do not put TPMS sensors on those rims, you will get a error in your EVIC. So if you change rims, you need TPMS sensors for those new rims. If you only change tires, you will not have to do anything. Peace.

Yes, you are correct. I tried it. Took the battery out of my fob and my DJ started fine. Peace.

POOR HANDLING IN ICY CONDITIONS
redtomatoman replied to jeff.cox's topic in Brake, Chassis & Suspension
My DJ is FWD and seems to do fine in light snowy conditions. Ice is a challenge for all vehicles. I almost always choose to drive my 4x4 Dakota in wintery conditions. The only thing I can add to the ice discussion is this: Depending on the type of differential that the DJ has in the back, that may contribute to handling on ice. My Dakota has a limited slip type rear differential and because both wheels have power it does great on snow but it tends to wander on ice. Traditional differentials have power to only one wheel at a time, and the unpowered wheel has the effect of keeping the vehicle more straight in slippery conditions. Not sure how the AWD DJs are set up, but depending on differentials this may be part of the effect. I have never been a fan of AWD vehicles. I know many love them, and that's fine. IMHO, 4WD systems are much better and are controlled by me. I hate that the AWD systems control themselves. I prefer the 4WD shifter. When its in 4WD, I know it, and there is full power to all the wheels. When I shift it out, I know it, and I know exactly what to expect. All the computer shifting of power to the wheels causes driver confusion, it seems to me. Peace. -
Interesting. The 2011 owner's manual states that 5-30 SAE oil is recommended. I wonder why they changed it? Peace.

The problem with the DJ is that the process of filling the tank is so random. One time it fills nearly full, the next time its a gallon or so low. . . The old fashioned way simply does not work. When I have forced my tank full for a time, I found that my mpg meter consistently reads about .5 mpg high. I rely on mine now b/c the old fashioned way is too much work.Peace.

those with fuel level issues
redtomatoman replied to b1pig's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
I think I'm with 2late4u & rolly. I'm not going to worry about it. I'm tired of topping my tank off. I did some reading on the internet about topping your tank off. Many different sources said that some of the gas that you are charged for when topping your tank off is actually taken back into the pump via a recirculation system so some of that gas never even makes it into the tank. Not sure if its true or not. Peace. -
Go pretty far. Its 9F with three new inches of snow on the ground this morning in New Mexico. Its not -25F, but its still cold. Gotta get out and shovel in a few minutes after a few more sips of my coffee. I'm not driving my DJ today, but I'm sure it would complain if I was. Peace.
-
Yeah, I get the impression that the noise is fairly normal. It seems that quite a few members complain about cold start noises. Peace.
-
I heard my first cold start noise tonight. The car had sat in an airport parking lot for the past week. Made a short bark as it started. No other noise or symptoms. Temp was just below freezing; maybe 29 or 30 F. Is there a consensus as to what causes the noise? Peace.
-
Is this a common problem? Peace.
-
My FWD DJ does not do this. Or if it does, it is quite mild. Evidently it is either due to the AWD system or the transmission programming. That's my understanding. Peace.
-
Sorry to see that this is still going on for you. I hope some of the new members of the forum with more technical knowledge will chime in on your behalf. I would say just start using synthetic oil as you don't really have anything to lose really. Maybe that would help. Good Luck. I'm rooting for you. Peace.

Sirius Radio renewal
redtomatoman replied to rolly's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Interesting. I will try that. thanks. Peace. -
I've never heard this sound on my FWD R/T, so sounds logical that this sound is related to the AWD system. Peace.

Sirius Radio renewal
redtomatoman replied to rolly's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Like jkeaton says, sometimes they will offer you a short term freebie. It you really like Sirius radio then you have to pay for the service. If you have multiple radios the second is discounted. I have one in my Dakota as well as my DJ. I got some discount on my renewal. I can't remember what the percentage was. Anyway, I love my Sirius and my travel-link. Peace. -
Wow, that was fast. Welcome. If you have the Pentastar 6, you will still have plenty of gitty up. Enjoy. Peace.

This same thing happened to me on my 2011 about a year ago. I went to the dealer and they did a "reset", but all my saved radio stations and such were gone, so I think their reset amounted to little more than a battery disconnect for 30 mins. Worked great after that. No problems since. I would try the battery disconnect first before traveling to the dealer. Good Luck. Peace.

Hockey, Just went to the Los Angeles Auto Show. No 100th DJ that I saw. Just a highly optioned 2014. It was a blacked out version. Did see the shaker challenger and the 100th anniversary challenger and charger there. Peace.

2014 Dodge Charger and Challenger 100th Anniversary Edition
redtomatoman replied to trev0006's topic in Lounge
My understanding is that there will be a limited run of challengers with Shaker hoods produced. 2014 will be a good year for Mopar. As cool as the classic Mopars are, my 2011 DJ is the perfect muscle car for bike and surf trips. I freakin' love it. Bad a$$. Peace. -
I notice that most folks replace their 225/55/19s with 235/55/19s. I am actually considering 235/50/19 tires when the time comes. Is there a reason that most go with 235/55/19? Just wondering. Peace.

First thing to do is call Chrysler Care. Was this a used vehicle or dealership car? Almost sounds as if the car was abused and had the unfortunate rat infestation then the car was sold to an unsuspecting customer, you. Not sure it that's the case, but I'd be just as angry at the dealer who serviced the car then sold it without divulging that information as I would the actual car. I'm no mechanic, but the tranny certainly has many electrical components. The transmission problems could also be from abuse if it was a used vehicle. Best of luck to you. I hope you get a replacement DJ. Sorry for your experience thus far, but having a good DJ is a great experience. Peace.
