  1. Mp3 and CD sound quality is better than Sirius. The Sirius sound is thin and lacks bass, IMO. Maybe the 2010 stereo system is better, dunno. I have been quite happy with my Alpine. Peace.
  2. I have noticed that my DJ gets its best gas mileage at 65-70 miles per hour. Peace.
  3. Go with a 2011 or later DJ. The improvements are significant. Not least of which is the 3.6 L Pentastar. Peace.

  5. I'd say for the most part the folks here are happy with their Journey. I drove everything back in 2011 when I bought mine, but the JC was head and shoulders above the rest. The only competitor was the Forester, but the interior was cheap as hell and they wanted an extra 2500 USD for it. Non-negotiable BTW. I have the smaller brakes, and I have not had any problems at all. I'm sure the larger brakes are better. Ceramic pads will reduce your brake dust. I do get that with my stock pads. The R/T 8.4 is money. Love mine except for a few quirks. Get the extended warranty IMHO. I think there are just too many things that can go wrong over time with all of these new technology filled vehicles from any manufacturer. The transmission is programmed for MPG, at least on the 2011. If I need power, it downshifts solidly after a short pause. If I'm in a situation like a pass on a two lane road, I just use the autostick and downshift manually. Works great. The Journey has plenty of power but it isn't a Hemi powered Charger. If the color of the wheel is your only beef with the JC, I'd say you're in a good place. Best of Luck with whatever you decide. Peace.
  6. So the kumho tire took that and did not rupture? I'd say to all those that are down on kumhos, that's freakin' impressive. Maybe I'll really like my next set of tires, but I have nearly 23000 miles on my kumhos and they still look new. There may be better tires out there, but the kumhos have been good on my DJ. I will likely replace my kumhos with something else, but I hate the idea that my speedo will have a slight error due to size difference. Peace.
  7. You certainly can stay with dino oil. I like the idea of new clean oil in my engine more frequently. I also like the idea of a first oil change at 1000 miles then 3-5 k miles thereafter. Good luck. Congrats on the new DJ. Peace.
  8. Sorry to see you didn't get this working. When I was due for a phone upgrade I went to the dodge phone comparability site and got one of the phones that was on the text functionality list. Turns out the OS was a newer version and text was not supported by uconnect. If the text functionality is truly only available when the vehicle is not in motion (like the dvd player), then we really are not missing much, IMHO. Not sure whether its true or not as I've not heard of anyone who has the text functionality working. Ha. Peace.
  9. 2011 deep cherry pearl red. Always said I'd never own a red vehicle, but I must recant. Deep cherry pearl is not really "red" by most definitions. Almost Burgundy. So far, I love the color. Sharp in the sun. Peace.
  10. Just FYI for the future. . . I happened upon this on Allpar today. Posted on February 26th, 2013 • by David Zatz Chrysler has quietly changed the oil filters and cap O-rings used on the Pentastar V6 engines from 2011-13’s part number 68109834AA to 68191349AA on 2014 models. The change, which Andy told us affected all Pentastar V6 engines, may have coincided with changes to the oil cooler; however, it might be more likely that it was done to reduce confusion and inventories, since the VM V6 diesel engine used by Chrysler also saw a redesign of the filter and cap O-rings, to the same part number as the gasoline V6. This means that dealers can stock a single filter-and-gasket kit for all Grand Cherokee V6 engines, diesel and gasoline alike — unless, of course, they are from the 2011 to 2013 model years. The Hemi filters are unchanged. Using the wrong part will cause an oil leak. Peace.
  11. Don't know. Hope you get this to work. Please post your thoughts if you do. I did some subsequent research and my understanding is that uconnect text only works when the vehicle is not in motion. This doesn't help me when I'm driving and my friends are blowing up my phone with messages. I had hoped to be able to reply through uconnect "call me". Anyway, my DJ is a 2011 and does not, evidently, support text even though the manual says it does. Good luck. Peace.
  12. When I think about a how to area, I think of an area that is dedicated to users documenting their projects: how to change the oil, how to replace your tpms, how to remove the dash, or any other thing that someone figured out. I think how to use the forum is ok, but users sharing how to do something on one's DJ should be the spirit of the section. I'm not so sure involving $$ is the best idea. Peace.
  13. Not sure about size for your card. Make sure you have separate folders for each artist that contain all the albums as a folder and songs in each folder. Gracenote is lame. If you find a solution to the album art annoyance, I guarantee many on this forum will be interested. Gracenote has some algorithm for recognizing songs and applies album art per that algorithm. Also, I have found typos in the Gracenote data base on my 2011 DJ. I hate it!!! Van Halen is a prime example. I can't even search for some of my VH albums in Uconnect with source iPod because Gracenote renames my files to have a typo as the artist name. I leave Gracenote off and do not have any album art so that I can search without typos. Chrysler has not yet shown any concern about my hatred of Gracenote at all. They need to update the Gracenote file in Uconnect and allow us that want it access to it. Other than that I have really enjoyed owning a DJ. Congrats on your new DJ. Peace.

I don't think brembo brakes will fit the DJ. Peace.
  15. If you get the brembos installed, please post how the install went and how you like them. Peace.
  16. I have not had any problems with my brakes yet, but I'd love to upgrade to the brembo brakes. If they are available for the DJ, I think they are definitely worth the upgrade. I think bigger brakes would fit because they increased the brake size in the middle of 2012 without any other changes. Good Luck. Peace.
  17. Well. . . Hopefully I stand corrected. I've not seen purple. Hope that's the correct color. Best of luck. Do make sure there is no oil in the coolant though. Peace.
  18. Oh yeah. Forgot to mention that the color should be orange if you were not sure. . . Peace.
  19. NO! Make sure it is not oil. If it is, it could be the sign of a leaking head gasket or other condition where oil and coolant are mixing. I would think twice before driving it if you think it is oil. Coolant in the cylinders is no good. I have heard of a small amount oil showing into the coolant following internal engine work. Have you had your heads worked on? This is an uncommon, although not unknown, pentastar problem. Make your dealer figure it out. Good Luck. Peace.
  20. Yes, I believe that the first oil change should be done sooner than subsequent oil changes. I did my first oil change at 100 miles. As the engine breaks in, metal from the process ends up in the oil. I believe that it is good to get the first oil out of the engine. All subsequent oil changes can be done on whatever schedule you feel comfortable with. I change my oil at 5000 miles or 5 months. Good Luck with your mileage. Peace.
  21. Here the response I got from DodgeCares: I ran your vin and found that the part number on your rotor matches the part number for other Journeys that I have the vins for on other 2011 models. Yours was a relatively late build so I also ran some 2012 vins for calipers and the part numbers are the same so I could find no evidence of your not having "normal" calipers on it. I went to the MGP website and checked out the covers they offer for the Journey and they list them for the 2009-2013 with the same part number for all years so I am not sure why the ones they sent you do not fit. It would seem to me that if Chrysler changed the part all the way back in 2011 they would have figured it out by now at MGP and ran into the situation you are having long before now. Since MGP has told me that their covers work on the DJs that they have fit, the possibilities are: 1. There are at least 2 stock DJ calipers that are different sizes that actually have the same part numbers and MGP is using only the larger size calipers to design their covers. 2. I have an odd size caliper on my 2011 DJ for some reason. 3. My mechanic and I did not understand how to correctly install the covers. Possible but highly unlikely. . . Anyway, if anyone else is interested in caliper covers, these MGP covers are quite nice. If they don't fit, they will take them back without any hassles. I be interested to see if they fit other's DJs. Peace.
  22. Maybe. MGP says their covers fit the 09-13 DJs. Anyway, I'm a little disappointed. I think they would have looked cool and prevented at least some of the brake dust. Peace.

  24. Well. . . As I posted earlier, I have returned my caliper covers to MGP. Currently I'm a little disappointed as it seems that MGP caliper covers will not fit my DJ. I spoke with them on the phone yesterday. They still cannot imagine how the caliper covers do not fit as they have verified that I did indeed receive the the correct part number and it matched their specifications for that part number. They had no answer for me on fitment. They could only come up with install error or different calipers on my vehicle. MGP asked for my VIN to do some more investigating. I did provide that, but I doubt they will come up with anything. According to MGP, they have successfully fit "hundreds" of DJs. As an aside, they told me about a case of a corvette that had different calipers from other corvettes of same model/year and could not be fit with their caliper covers. Although its possible that some new cars just have different components, I'm not sure I buy it though. I will PM DodgeCares my VIN to see if he can shed any light on this caliper mystery. I will keep this thread updated with any news that comes from MGP. Peace.
  25. There was an earlier thread regarding this (not involving lockpick). You can try this sequence. . . 1 put shift in park 2 turn on movie in front, start playing the movie, choose show video. 3 press menu and go into dvd setup 4 shift into drive 5 press back 6 enjoy This may work for viewing a movie while in drive. Peace.
