  1. Maybe this is true. My 2011 RB5 with Nav has these settings, and while I cannot absolutely prove dysfunction, the compass in my vehicle has been erroneous when the setting was not as described in the manual. Dunno. There is also a calibration procedure outlined in my manual. My compass seems to be accurate when I am not driving. The OP may have a GPS problem that is affecting the compass. I did not see any display settings for the EVIC concerning the compass display in my manual. If I were in the same situation as the OP, I would begin by having the GPS and compass systems checked. As far as the DVD chatter in this thread, playing a DVD in the front row while driving is simply silly and should not be done. Peace.
  2. Sounds like there is some malfunction of the GPS system. I'd have the selling dealer check this for you. There are magnetic location settings for the compass. I'm not sure if there is an EVIC display setting for the compass. Did you get a manual? Peace.
  3. Fair review. It is a very comfortable vehicle. Not perfect, but very comfortable. Many of the complaints are ubiquitous to most all vehicles. The journey could have and should have been upgraded with many of the options on current offerings from other manufacturers, I completely agree. Chrysler has continued to treat the journey as the red-headed step child of the fleet. If they added creature comforts, upgraded the pentastar engine with a turbo, and dropped in the 8 speed transmission available in other Chrysler models, they would not be able to make them fast enough. BUT, they're likely not going to do that. They will probably drop it all together and design a new drag racer. Evidently all Americans need a vehicle where a back seat is an option. Dodge is going for a fleet with zero utility and maximum horsepower. Maybe they will move a journey replacement to Chrysler and insert all that the DJ is missing. Maybe. . . I plan to keep my DJ as long as possible because despite its shortcomings, it has checked most of my boxes: utility, comfort, road manners, power, and descent mileage. Peace.
  4. Is it a diesel? Generally the radiator thermostat takes care of making sure the radiator temperature is appropriate in gas engines. Is it so cold that you need one? Didn't know that they made them for the DJ. Peace.
  5. I believe the answer is yes. Try it and see. I can't imagine the sensor cares what wheel it's in unless it doesn't fit. Let us know how it goes. peace.
  6. Ha! And here I would have believed that the website was created by someone with English was their second language. Not sure how I feel about that. Peace.
  7. After viewing the link, looks good to me. I'm out though. I have the alpine system. The typos on the site further support a foreign country company, but that's fine. Keep the forum updated checkstr. Peace.
  8. I looked at the website. Looks like a legit European company. Use the contact portion of their site and see what they can do. Says map updates are free. That's certainly better than uconnect! Peace.
  9. I don't recognize this software. Maybe someone else here would. Does the system have full functionality? If so, I'd probably just use it as is for now. Are the maps really that inadequate that you definitely need an update? There may be some features that are advantageous over uconnect. I like the OBD functionality. I'd try phone and email contact if further attempts to get a web update are unsuccessful. I'd think the company would want to support the software and make money off of things like enhancements and map updates. Dunno. The GUI definitely looks like it is intended to work with uconnect. I wouldn't give up on this software just yet. If all goes haywire, I would assume that the system could be reset back to Chrysler default software. If you figure it out, please share with the forum. Good luck. Peace.
  10. Fuel injection? Dealer. . . Codes, if any, would be helpful. Peace.
  11. Just checked the Chrysler map update page. There are detailed instructions regarding how to get your 10 digit code from your unit. I'm sure you followed those. If the unit ID is not there and your unit is not running Garmin maps, then you should suspect that your unit has been hacked and new software loaded. I would return to whomever you purchased the vehicle from asap. Good luck.
  12. Not sure what Igo Primo is. My 2011 uconnect 8.4N uses Garmin maps. I'm pretty sure your 2014 uses Garmin maps as well. Start with the garmin website. Peace.
  13. In my experience, the best thing to do is to have the problem well defined in your mind and know how to reproduce symptoms or know when symptoms occur. Take the service manager for a ride... The thing with these dealerships is that they could be staring a major problem in the face, but if they say everything is normal you have to live with that to some degree. Make sure you get the symptoms and problem documented completely. If it gets worse you've got the history. This could be anything from wheel bearings to something in the engine or anything in between. Good luck. Peace.
  14. Does follow RPMs? Transmission? Take it in to the dealer. Could be lots of things. Even if they don't do anything have them document the noise. If it gets worse you have it documented. Peace.
  15. I get very short skips or pauses with my 2011 RB5 about every 20 to 30 minutes. Not every few seconds. Mine happens more frequently with usb/iPod. It does happen with satellite as well, but not as frequently. The satellite skips may be related to the radio or to something external like a momentary loss of signal. Not sure. I don't recall it happening with bluetooth/spotify, but I'm so used to it now, that it may happen then too. A few years back, I demonstrated this to my local dealer and they replaced my RB5 under my lifetime warranty. The new one is exactly the same. I have concluded that my RB5 skipping behavior is a characteristic of the software or radio. I've just learned to live with it. Rock on... Peace.
  16. Replace the battery first. That's the most likely culprit here. It may test fine but not work under load. If that's not it, then check both battery cables. There would likely be a short or break in the battery circuit somewhere close to the battery based upon the fact that all electronics are affected. Heck, check all the fuses as well while you're in there. That's where I'd start... Good luck. Peace.
  17. So you like the car? Its does have 283hp at sea level when new. Hopefully the previous owner didn't abuse the engine. Not sure where you live, but cars lose about 3% hp per 1000 feet above sea level. I live at nearly 7000 feet, so I lose 21% off of the hp rating. That's nearly 60hp. It's not a sports car. It's a strong crossover or SUV. It is a heavy vehicle. Load it up with passengers and cargo, and that makes a difference too. The six speed transmission is fine, imo. Treat it well and it should return the favor. Good luck. Peace.
  18. *Update* So my knee is still healing, I hope. Still may need surgery. We'll see. I did have an opportunity to take the DJ for a 300 mile drive after the tranny replacement. I was not able to drive, I was the passenger. Mostly freeway at 75 to 80 mph. Seemed to shift fine, both on freeway and in the city. I am hopeful that this transmission will be reliable. It is a remanufactured unit. Not sure where the remanufacturing work is completed though. Out... Peace.
  19. Sounds like a great price, but make sure the title is clear. I've seen DJs for cheap like this but they have a salvage title. If everything works without any mechanical issues, it would be a great deal. Sounds almost too good, so be careful. Good luck. Peace.
  20. For $100, I'd replace it. That's me though. If you confirm that your neighbor is correct, then go without the thing. I'm like you, I have no real idea what the thing monitors. I'd assume battery voltage. Dunno. Peace.
  21. Oh, mine had absolutely no symptoms. They told me mine was shot and they just replaced it. My code was different though. Peace.
  22. Expect $3000 + labor from the dealership, I think. If you don't have any warranty, I would find a good transmission shop. I had my 2011 transmission replaced under warranty. Rough estimate was around $5000 otd if I had to pay for the warranty work. Seems to shift smoothly after installation of a new transmission. The dealership will be quite expensive. Good luck. Peace.
  23. *UPDATE* So long story short, I got my DJ back. I can't really get out and test it for a few weeks because I fractured my right tibia in a mountain bike crash. 6 weeks nonweightbearing. Full extension brace prohibits driving. I did manage to pull it into the garage and it seemed to shift smoothly. More on that when I can really test things. Estimates from service writer Transmission $3900 Labor $1100 Misc $200-300 Total $5000+ usd My warranty has certainly paid for itself. I hope this transmission is reliable. Peace.
  24. Just saw this headline. Couldn't resist posting... Toyota is recalling 228,000 Tacoma vehicles over an issue that could cause drivers to lose control of their cars. Unaffected Toyota loyalists will ignore this intensely. Ha! Peace.
  25. I agree. All manufacturers have service departments for a reason. Some people are just very narrow minded. If I listen to my friends, Toyotas don't even need gas because they run on air and fart rainbows out the exhaust pipe, only need oil changes every 100k miles, have paint that doesn't scratch, and never have any problems, ever... Then they complain about poor service when they get their 5000 mi oil change. Unbelievable. The delusion is palpable. I understand that there are manufacturers with better reliability records, but come on... I have been quite happy with my DJ. I recently had my transmission prematurely fail and replaced under warranty, so I hope I don't have any more problems there longterm. Time will tell. $#!+ happens with all vehicles. That's just how it goes. Peace.
