  1. It IS an option. Swapping takes all of 5 minutes on the DJ - how much more can it take on the Charger? Once plugged in, when you power it up for the first time after a swap it will ask for the unlock code (which is a function of the radio serial number and the vehicle's VIN) and away you go. When you want to swap back you use the code you'd have gotten for your nav radio when installed in the Charger. If you wanted to use the non-Nav radio in the Charger when the navigator is in the DJ you'd need codes for it as well.
  2. If you get unlock codes you can swap the nav between the Charger and the Journey, though the model in yours is probably a 2012 series without traffic support (which you'd need to subscribe to if yours was a later version that supports it).
  3. If you wanted to have some fun at the risk of spending $500, call them on it - the Nav is a $1200 option (at order time. The radio alone as a part retails for $2,200) and the integration is very nice to have, not to mention that the RB5 is unique in that it supplements GPS with dead reckoning navigation, so it doesn't get lost in parking structures and tunnels or in downtown 'RF canyons'.
  4. I do know what OEM means. However I wondered who he was referring to by his reference, since it seemed to imply a specific company or group within a company; one that clearly is unaware of the systems used in Chrysler vehicles, as it happens.
  5. No. He can't. That's for a different radio, the 8.4AN that we don't have in the DJ. Never had any issues whatsoever with Bluetooth - you must have an iPhone. And Nav-wise mine has never acted up, though if it does not only do I have a spare, I also know how to fix it.
  6. The suspension is different and your shocks and steering components are newer than the SXT. Note that bigger wheels means smaller sidewalls and typically results in a harsher ride . . . . .
  7. What happens when you drive on the left side of the road?
  8. Good luck with part numbers, they're all over the map and there's no magic decoder ring. Often even the sellers have no clue what they are offering - one member here bought THREE different radios from three DIFFERENT vendors and NONE of the three had nav even though they all claimed theirs did. You can use any RB5 from any vehicle except the Dart. So the 300, Charger and Journey can be donor vehicles if you get the right years. There are 3 series of RB5 . . . the original, which is from 2011 to mid 2012, another from mid 2012 to mid 2013 and 2014 and later radios, the latter of which support satellite traffic. All 2012+ and later radios as well as updated 2011's need an unlock code. Since you have a Crossroad you have an RE2 with SiriusXM so you have the antenna already. The swap takes all of 5 minutes once you have all the components in place. I have a 2014 radio I've tested sitting on my shelf available for purchase . . . . it is listed in the classified section.
  9. Well that went almost smoothly . . . . . I am now running 16.21.D7 and CTP17 . . . . . But when I restored my settings, the radio said to touch the 'OK' button after the process and when I did it went black and shut down. Two vehicle starts later it was back and fine, however. I don't expect much difference, since I never had any issues before and as I wrote, I don't care to use my vehicle in Iraq nor to have to display and presumably communicate in Italian; an upgrade for upgrade's sake.
  10. Thanks . . . the CTP17 information you've provided is essentially what I was looking for. Is it appropriate to assume you also did the radio update? Both updates will be installed today if that's the case.
  11. Just bring a tape measure with you when you go in to look at one in person.
  12. Thanks for posting this - as usual it fixes problems my radio never suffers (which is, I suppose a good thing), though if I ever ship my DJ to Iraq or if I have a stroke and suddenly can only speak Italian for some reason (I don't speak Italian now) I MAY have to apply it . . . . . Now, it seems they have released a new Navigator file, version 7.09 / CTP17. I don't see it when I enter the VIN associated with my radio, but I do have a copy and have read that others seem to be receiving it from the update site - but I don't have the bulletin number for it. So I also wonder about that one . . . .
  13. That you noticed. These updates don't add features. They are intended to fix bugs. And they might include changes that impact on hidden (or to close unintended access to) services or capabilities. That's why I don't apply updates without having the changelog data.
  14. My '11 didn't have the feature, though it was documented in the manual. Cost cutting? It was a bunch of lines of code that had already been written. How much would they save by not leaving it in place?
  15. It occurs to me that perhaps one of our members who works at a dealership might be able to access the Service Bulletin that describes the new radio firmware (08-004-17) and that the bulletin might tell us what they've changed?
  16. They've all been available since their respective release dates. The 3rd one replaces the first, but 15.09.D1 could well be a prerequisite for 16.21.D7, which is simply a later version of the first. Edit: Mea Culpa - The last time I actually checked was before the release date . . . . . it DOES offer me the file. I wish they published changelogs, because it has nothing to do with the navigator and the radio has been rock solid.
  17. It's hard for the camera to not be included since it is molded into the bezel. And while it *may* be that the bezel design has changed or perhaps they use a different connector, I personally doubt it. The Mopar accessory site has it included under the 2009-2016 parts, though the kit itself says 2011-215, which can also mean that they simply haven't updated the descriptive text. The wires had better be there if the dealer thinks he can install it in an hour and a half.
  18. Correct. If I had a 4.3" uConnect in my current Journey I wouldn't 'do' the upgrade. But that's just my opinion.
  19. $280 gets you the old kit complete with the wiring harness. You should only need the camera bezel (same part for all years) which is about $125, because the vehicles are supposed to be prewired now. And if the harness is there the install OUGHT to take less than an hour - remove the interior panels, unscrew one bolt and remove the old bezel, pop the new one in and put it back together. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-MOPAR-LIFT-GATE-HANDLE-2011-12-DODGE-JOURNEY-FOR-VEHICLES-W-BACKUP-CAMERA-/322058533395 Then they only need to flash the new sales code into the vehicle. Of course this presupposes that you have a vehicle with the 8.4" display.
  20. Hi Lucas; Well, you'd obviously need a new screen and the lower stack, which is the plastic part with the blower, volume and tuning knobs and various buttons would also need to be replaced. Beyond the antenna (and I believe the cable that connects it to the radio, unless they finally include the wire for that the way they supposedly do for the backup camera) the onscreen control of the air conditioning would not work unless you installed a new ambient sensor (and possibly a wire from the temperature sensor part of it . . . . that's been the subject of discussion in the past) and had the sales code added, which would likely be a not simple task. And that's about it. Note that if you don't have Bluetooth now then voice command wouldn't work and there's no way to retrofit the feature.
  21. My kid's Pontiac G5 has the best battery placement; just at the rear of the trunk under a beauty cover. It protects the battery and the connections from salt and other corrosive elements and temperature is moderated because it's inside the vehicle. The battery has lasted 7 years there. It certainly wouldn't have been difficult to invert the stamping for the floor of the vehicle so that the spare would be in the vehicle (negating the need for the winch, along the way) and making room for the battery as well . . . .
  22. Had you known the vehicle had been scrapped would you have paid however much you did? If it was me I would be suing the seller for a full refund (and more) based on his (or her) misrepresentation and fraud and then start looking for another vehicle. Why? Because, for one thing you probably expected to have a new vehicle warranty - and salvage vehicles have none. Also you have no idea if the vehicle is safe (apparently not if there are airbag issues) and the value is greatly diminished - it also has insurance implications if you were hoping to get 'replacement cost' coverage. Good luck.
  23. I can't recall hearing that the radio causes batteries to drain nor have I ever heard of the radio catching fire, nor can I find reports of this on the Internet. I think your dealer smells money.
