LED Interior light issues

Reseating won't change anything if they work when you manually turn them on. -
Parts only available from Mopar?
bramfrank replied to iharker's topic in Brake, Chassis & Suspension
What did the local FCA dealer have to say? The recall is brand new and a failure within a week of replacing the cooler and hoses is, to my mind very 'coincidental'. I don't recall seeing any posts here or in the Facebook pages about failures of this type either. -
Usb input issues

In the meantime they are still supplying radios on new vehicles with the old Gracenotes database and presumably paying royalties for each vehicle delivered. When you chat with them next you might want to ask the CSR to send the suggestion upstairs to eliminate Gracenotes from the firmware or at the very least to provide an option to use embedded artwork - it is unfair to owners to limit the display of artwork on a 2016 vehicle to 5 year old and older music. I'm certain the code modifications wouldn't be all that complex, since there are public domain libraries of code for this sort of thing. -

Indeed it does and dhh3 knows this too. I don't know why he wrote what he did. I use a 2nd gen iPod in my armrest and it works just fine with the system. It WOULD be nice if FCA would release an update for Gracenotes. Then again it would also be nice if FCA would modify the way the backup camera works, leaving the camera active until the vehicle is shifted to drive or park, rather than immediately shutting off when you go to neutral. -
Follow-up: I took my car to my selling dealer last week, but it turns out that they won't give me a loaner vehicle and I live outside their shuttle service coverage, so, against my better judgement I went to the dealer near my home; the dealer that blew up the engine in my LHS and whom I had to sue to get them to pay for their damage. But they are in walking distance of my home and I knew that with 2 recalls AND the check engine light waiting at the dealership wasn't going to be practical. On Wednesday (the 29th) I brought it in and the shuttle was nowhere to be seen - "he'll be back in an hour" they said. So I walked home and wouldn't you know it, clouds came in and the wind started blowing and the heavens opened up and I got soaked. At 4PM I called to see if I could collect my car and they told me they were going to provide me a loaner (if they'd agreed to do this in the morning I wouldn't have gotten soaked and I would have had a productive day). Enterprise gave me a GM traverse - not the base model, but not the top of the line, either. Would I buy one? Nope. But that's another story. On Thursday afternoon I went to get my vehicle - they had gotten a clean car and returned one with grease stains on the fenders and such - I suppose they fixed what had to be fixed and I went home, but noticed that the vehicle was riding (not running) rough and there were some strange noises from the front end . . . . . This morning I cycled the display through it's features and discovered that the dealer had cranked up the tire pressure from the normal 37 psi I leave it at, to 42!!! No wonder it was handling rough and the front end was making noise - the tires were over-inflated and very stiff. When I got home I bled out the excess air and thing returned to normal. I wonder WHY they touched the tire pressure and I wonder why they inflated it to 42 psi all around?.

Dont like your Dodge journey? crush it with a tank
bramfrank replied to silenze's topic in Owner Impressions
Seems to have been some sponsorship for the event - they probably received more compensation for the publicity than the vehicle could have been sold for. Based on the little that was disclosed, I suspect that beyond some bad engine mounts and a non-functioning DVD player, they probably ignored an overheat situation that may have been triggered by a leaking coolant tank which in turn cracked the engine block (coolant leaking to the oil) which would not be an FCA issue in a 5 year old vehicle. They also complained about battery rundown issues and windows that would roll themselves down (that's one I've never heard before). While FCA can be 'difficult', we all know that customers can also be their own worst enemies. I had to sue FCA, along with the dealer and my aftermarket warranty company - the reason, in fact why I always tell people to buy OEM warranties - to eliminate the finger pointing that takes place when there's a claim). My Y2K LHS suffered a cracked block caused by a bad replacement water pump that they refused to deal with . . . . and the dealer kept telling me just to keep driving and that 'everything was fine' (thankfully caught on tape). But while dealers can be incompetent, I will presume that what went wrong with their vehicle may not have been covered by warranty and that, as claimed by FCA they had the vehicle serviced at non-FCA garages. The truth in this case likely lies somewhere between the parties' stories. -
Uconnect
bramfrank replied to sbland72's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
It could be the phone, rather than the vehicle electronics. Do you have another phone to try? -
As I've written, I found the 17" Kuhmo tires that were on my '11 to be just fine - lots of tread left at 32,000 miles and they were smooth and quiet. If one axle's tires are both bald, the tires were not rotated properly. And assuming that the alignment was good as was the tire pressure, then look at the driving style and pavement composition. Some pavement, most notably 'chip and seal' can be like sandpaper - and OEM 'spec' tires are pretty much by definition going to trend towards grip and comfort over longevity. As to numbers 'not making it onto' your contract and switches of whatever sort, you are supposed to verify that sort of thing BEFORE signing and BEFORE accepting delivery of a vehicle.

Are motor mounts part of the powertrain warrenty?

I would think not. But that's an opinion, not a fact. And that's why I have an extended warranty, too. -
Can't Unlock Maps

Your dealer is right. The 8.4A does not work in the Journey. My Galaxy S7 works just fine with voice dialing and with name display and text messaging as well as streaming music. So does my Lumia 920 under Windows Phone 10. Apple phones are popular, but less than optimal. The obvious question to ask is what the dealer actually did when he executed the recall . . . . before you bring it back in can I ask that you check the software versions for both the radio and the navigator? The radio should be running version 15.09.D1 and the navigator 6.22/CTP16 - you can see the navigator version while it is starting up, but you need to access the dealer menu to check the radio version. The dealer menu is accessed by pressing the driver side temperature 'up' and 'down' buttons simultaneously, along with the rear defrost button and hold them all for about 10 seconds. Once the menu appears you press the appropriate menu items on the screen. It should be self evident as to how to use the menu and how to exit when you are done. It happens to be a simple matter to get your radio running again without swapping it out, but FCA does have an obligation to you here. For my part, I am trying to determine whether their fix is legit or if they've been wasting everyone's time. -
8.4 uconnect
bramfrank replied to Dannyb's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Honestly? To begin with I believe that if you gave the project to the dealer he would screw it up AND he would be asking your for extra money. If you intended to come out of te comversion with a navigation radio especially his numbers would make no sense. A conversion would depend on what you have in place now - do you have Bluetooth? Do you have automatic air? Do you have SiriusXM? If you had all of these then a conversion is *relatively* painless, albeit expensive. You would need to change out the TGM (telematics gateway, or radio module if you want to be accurate) and the display screen as well as the entire centre stack (all the plastic from the center vents down to the console). In new parts that is an expensive change. Of you don't already have auto air you need to change the ambient light sensor and a wiring harness and if you don't have SiriusXM you need to change the vehicle's antenna and the wiring to it and the saes code for automatic air needs to be added to the vehicle. Once you did it you'd likely be driving along and ask yourself what else you could have spent all that money on and you'd be kicking yourself for having spent the money. If you could add in the OEM navigation for that money as well (and it can be done), and a backup camera as well. But if you are missing any of the underlying options I mentioned it starts getting messy quickly. If it was my vehicle I would wait and get these features with your next vehicle. In fact it is what I did; My '11 had no Bluetooth, No XM and manual air conditioning. My '1 had all three AND the 8.4 inch display. I added navigation and the backup camera, both of which were very painless to do myself (though the nav addition is also pretty expensive). I WILL say that the convenience of the integrated navigation system is pleasant to have. But on the '11, because it had no roof console, I was able to install a high end Garmin Navigator that had voice recognition and it looked as though it was factory installed and it as virtually invisible from outside the vehicle. -

Instrument cluster Dead
bramfrank replied to Chickenlady16's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
Anything is possible - and some important connector, even somewhere else on the vehicle could be the cause - or it could be a bad dash module. If you've tried the obvious, I suggest a visit to a GOOD dealer. You'd think that a diagnosis might take an hour . . . . . and if it is a fuse you didn't notice or an unplugged connector it could be resolved during the session - if it is something more serious . . . . eBay and scrap years in general can be your friend. I'll assume you have no warranty left for this type of problem? -

bramfrank replied to Chickenlady16's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
Have you had any work done on the vehicle? Have you checked your fuses? There is a fuse block under the hood in the engine compartment and another behind/below the glove box. The owner's manual will tell you which fuses do what. -
As the regulars here know, I'm on my second Journey. The last had the 4 cylinder 2.4 litre engine and was fine. It handled Montreal's steep hills perfectly and had no issues on the highway unless I was trying to pull a quick pass with five people on board, in which case it was less than a rocket. The current Journey is equipped with the 3.6 litre V6. It has been very reliable, with only one issue to date, which was a bad oil pressure sender unit. This evening I was out and when I got into the vehicle and started I the check engine light came on - checking the gauges it became clear that the replacement oil pressure sender has failed - 80 psi indicated at idle - when I hit a bump it went to normal and then on the next bump it was again 'pinned'. I know I'm not the only one to see a failure of this sort, but clearly, to have two of them fail in 18 months and about 16K miles implies a possible design or batch lot defect. Just sayin'

Starting in 2013 the vehicles were supposedly prewired - though I certainly couldn't find the connector out back when I went to do my '14, so, since I had the entire kit from the 11/12 with the wiring, I ran the cable and had the dealer do the radio connection for me when I brought to to him to add the sales code that enables the camera. The Journey has had zero changes done to it since 2011 beyond some parts consolidation and evolution (for example, there are three different hardware versions of the Navigator radio, and they've incorporated recall items into the production line). So the camera from any year OUGHT to work. And you can find the camera bezel on eBay, for example, for $116.

Do you have the 8.4" screen? If yes, then no problem. In fact the vehicle is supposedly prewired for it. If you have the 4.3" screen you can get an aftermarket adapter or you can convert to the 8.4.

Can't Unlock Maps
bramfrank replied to lanc747's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
The RB5 is unique in that it not only is a GPS-based navigator, but it also implements 'dead reckoning' locating, allowing it to remain accurate when satellites are not in view (in tunnels, garages and in the downtown core of cities, where large buildings shield satellites from view). The navigation option is not a software feature. It cannot be DOWNloaded. Since you have the 8.4 inch display you will need to replace only the TGM (radio module) with one that has the navigation hardware. The exchange is simple. It requires about 10 minutes and if you are at all handy; you can do it yourself. You will also need an unlock code for your vehicle's VIN to enable the radio (your dealer can generate it or there are people and sites that can do this). If your SiruisXM is active you'll also have to contact them to transfer your subscription to the new radio. Buying the radio module as a spare part from a dealer is an expensive ($2000) proposition, but you can find them 'out there' for between $600 and $1200. And, as it happens, I have one available for purchase - you can find my offer in the classified section of the board if your want to follow through. -
+1 on eBay . . . I got the OEM cargo mat (they only make it for the 5 passenger version) and went with the Husky floor mats. It's something of a tossup between the husky and the WeatherTech for the floor mats - they're both good.
