Not at all likely. Did you have the recall performed? It is simply a firmware update (actually 2 of them, one for the radio and the other for the navigator itself) . . . and you can do it for yourself if you want to push off the closing of the recall just in case the radio dies after the warranty expires.. Try rotating the tuning knob (the right one) - the encoder wheel may be slightly off at whatever position it is in now. Or perhaps the 'station up' button in the steering wheel or the connections in the clockspring or the bus encoder are at issue.

2015 Dodge Journey Automatic Lights
bramfrank replied to Denielle's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
First of all, the option packages differ between the Canadian and US markets . . . . just to settle that point. As Kent said, you need to replace the light switch and the ambient sensor (that thing in the middle of the dash . . . you *might* need to add a wire too. And once that's done the dealer needs to add the relevant sales code to the vehicle. You can find the part numbers and such by searching the forum. Welcome aboard.- 11 replies

Upgrade 4.3 to 4.3s
bramfrank replied to Capnblah's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Nope. Can't be added for anything approaching a reasonable cost . . . . . and why it doesn't have it? Because it wasn't ordered with it, though why a dealer would leave it out in this day and age is beyond me. In 2011 when they first decided to break out the BT from the uConnect feature many dealers were caught unaware and a huge number of vehicles (including R/Ts and such) were shipped without Bluetooth. It was a mess which is why, as Kent wrote there are a bunch of threads on the topic here on the board. My SE Plus likewise came without the feature even though I had been assured by the dealer that it had it - so I stuck a BT enabled higher end navigator (at the time, a Garmin 3790 was the top of the line) into the vehicle - the SE PLUS had no overhead console, so it left a perfect place above the rear view mirror to stick a semi-concealed navigator that also gave me passive (activated by a key phrase which involved the use of a swear word followed by the name of the person who was president of our company) voice response and Bluetooth, in addition to navigation and traffic management. I simply stuck it above the mirror and fished the power cable up the right side pillar - I put in a lighter socket and wired it to the fuse block behind the glove box. I looked like it was engineered into the vehicle and allowed me to operate the thing without the need to ever touch it. I was going to do something similar to my Crossroad, though only to get the navigator, because these days BT comes standard in that model, but because it came with the overhead console, the mounting location was unavailable - in the end I decided to upgrade the radio from the RE2 to the RB5 to get the functionality in dash. But I started from the 8.4 inch platform which greatly simplified the project. -

Upgrade 8.4 to 8.4n
bramfrank replied to Jstmahoney's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Dealer's parts guy is wrong - you can use any RB5 radio from any year. Note that the RB5 from a Dodge Dart is the exception. It is not compatible with the rest of the fleet - probably tied to Canbus issues. -

I have no idea what that part number is . . . . . But THIS is a valid radio: http://www.ebay.com/itm/13-14-CHRYSLER-DODGE-Charger-300-Navigation-Radio-RB5-HDD-BLOCK-CD-MP3-Player-/172002206314?hash=item280c21626a:g:sZIAAOSwv0tVMW9P&vxp=mtr Note that the compatability chart is wrong - Radios from Darts do not work in Journeys. The radio IS the module - it is located behind the lower bezel and to replace it is very simple; - Pop the two shiny horizontal trim pieces using a trim tool to expose the screws that hold the lower bezel in place - Remove the lower bezel, carefully unplugging the multipin connector that connects it to the vehicle - unscrew the four torx screws that hold the radio module in place and slide it out to expose the rear connectors - carefully unplug the various connectors from the rear of the radio and then set the old radio module aside - Plug the connectors into the new radio module and slide it into position - Screw the four torx screws back into the radio mounting holes - don't crossthread them, - Reconnect the multipin connector to the lower bezel - Snap in the bottom of the bezel an then reinsert the screws that fasten the top - Pop the ends of the shiny horizontal trim pieces. Now call Sirius to have your subscription transferred from the old vehicle to the new. Elapsed time . . . . about 10 minutes. -
Upgrade 4.3 to 4.3s

The radio is not 'crappy'. It works just fine, but it is, after all an AM/FM radio. And your vehicle does not actually need to be rewired, but rather you need to have an antenna that can see the satellite in order to receive the signals from it. That's because no auto manufacturer installs what they consider to be major components in vehicles that are not required for the unit. If you want to use the OEM antenna you will need to replace yours and pull a wire through the roof liner (which isn't a huge job) or if you don't want to go that far you can just install a separate antenna up front and have the wire pulled down through the passenger side roof pillar and plugged into the back of the new radio. Another option is to buy an aftermarket Sirius receiver and to plug it into the aux input in the console - you'd use the receiver's controls and display, but the installation would be plug and play. Having said that, you might want to note that upselling the radio might have meant upselling the entire vehicle - I wonder how many of the SE models that dealers bring in have upgraded radios? So it is quite possible that you'd have had to move up to an SXT to get timely delivery of a unit with the Sirius radio . . . . would you have been prepared to pay the extra thousands, with what that might entail just to get the 4.3S when you were shopping? Once you did that perhaps you should have taken it to the next level and gotten the 8 inch display - buying cars is a slippery slope of incremental cost increases. Oh, and with regard to the eBay radio? If you didn't pull the trigger on that deal there will be others. -

Radiator cooling fan not running on low, high coolant temp

Hopefully your dealer will also be reimbursing you for the faulty diagnosis as well as for the parts - you don't pay them for guessing. -
They are all aftermarket . . . . links to a few on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/x2-HeraShield-Clear-Screen-Protector-Fit-2012-14-Dodge-Journey-8-4-Radio-Screen-/151403014359?hash=item234052a8d7:g:kt4AAOSwRLZUCQc0&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tuff-Protect-Anti-glare-Screen-Protectors-for-2015-Dodge-Journey-8-4-2pcs-/161968720320?hash=item25b61689c0:g:LVMAAMXQyY1TT-qo&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/UConnect-8-4-Screen-Protector-Glare-Guard-Anti-Static-Dodge-Ram-Jeep-Chrysler-/181892306507?hash=item2a59a0564b:g:DoYAAOSwU~FWELkc&vxp=mtr

Has your radio been serviced or has your dash been opened up for any reason? Before you disassemble the entire vehicle you might want to pull out the radio module (behind the hard buttons below the display screen) to make certain that the 2 USB connectors (one for the BT and the other for the USB connection in the console) are properly seated in their respective sockets. It is a simple 10 minute operation.

Uconnect Access
bramfrank replied to safemike1's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
No. You can already unlock your doors from the FOB and if you didn't get it as an option, remote start (again from the FOB) can be added. But there is no connectivity from the outside world to your vehicle. On the other hand, without that connectivity, your vehicle can't be hacked from the web either. There is a thread here by a member who was developing a supervisory system that was capable of operating remote start if your vehicle had it and you put up a cellular radio and bought a plan . . . . based on the raspberry pi - a search will take you to the information. -
Yes - you only need to replace the screen itself. it is an assembly that you can buy apparently find used for between $150 and $800 on eBay, based on my quick search there. As a new part I see the price as $1500 for the screen - discounted to about $950 . . . . . Interesting enough it seems that you can even buy a screen protector for it.

Can't Unlock Maps
bramfrank replied to lanc747's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Given the way the notice was worded and what dodgecares.ca said, I personally would hold off on executing the recall at the dealer, since if the radio dies it will not be a simple task to get the company to fix it again at their expense. What I would do is to update the radio MYSELF to the current version and not let the dealer do the recall . . . . if (or when) the radio dies then, and only then would I bring it in for the real recall. -
While I know that dhh3 says that there is no support per se for the latest iOS release, I'd have thought that a basic BT headset connection would have worked . . . . . In any case it is not a problem for me and other Android users, since I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 which works perfectly with the vehicle, right down to the SMS messaging, such as it is. Perhaps that's the solution. Drop Apple.

Passive Entry Issue
bramfrank replied to lytefall's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Key Fobs, Locks & Remote Start
Actually, if you disconnect wire from the positive jumper connection I believe you will completely power down the vehicle - it's the disconnect point recommended in the backup camera installation instructions and it seems to be the same as my old LHS - one heavy cable from the battery positive post to the tie point.
