8.4 uconnect hacker problem!
bramfrank replied to Ray Morrow's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
No. Period. End of story. It does not affect the Dodge Journey because there is no data connection to the outside world - and even if it did, the likelihood of anyone attacking your vehicle in this way is darned close to absolute zero. -
U connect update March 2015
bramfrank replied to Jstmahoney's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
I did it, but noticed nothing new - there is a list of things that were fixed - but most applied only to foreign markets or were for issues I've never encountered. -
They ought to work if you get the right ones. There are a number of different versions, so getting the right sensors is key. The vehicle auto-learns the serial numbers and location, so you should have no problems. Make certain the wheels and tires you want fit the vehicle before you spend your money.

You'll have to do better than that because dhh3 and I both have 2014 Crossroads and we both have 8.4" displays and we both have Bluetooth with the microphone in the dimming mirror.
-
The manual references it's operating modes and a default configuration, which implies that it can be changed - then again it also references power folding mirrors and all sorts of other stuff we can't get and don't have. But it *may* be possible for the dealer to disable the feature through programming.

That's interesting. Mine has no light and we both drive '14 Crossroads . . . .

Rear camera and lock pick c8

I'm guessing that your experience with winphone was several years ago. Things have changed. A lot. There's a reason that the Lumia 920 was the phone of the year 2 years ago and the 1020 had the best camera of any phone on the market. It is a very well integrated OS and extremely efficient, meaning that you don't need a quad core processor to do anything quickly - and with the exception of a somewhat limited catalog of apps (they have almost all of the truly important ones) it is an extremely well integrated platform today. -

You took the blue pill - It is unfortunate that Microsoft couldn't get traction with the Windows Phone OS - it puts both Android and iOS to complete shame. I am looking forward to seeing what Win 10 brings to the table. -

Unless you figure a way to interface the iPhone screen image to the lockpick, no, you can't -
Radio Sound Problem
bramfrank replied to DHP's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
PM - Private Message You really should have started your own topic - your '09 uses a different radio than those of us with the 2011 and later models - the diagnostics ought to be started at a dealership (noting that dealers can, and do have issues sometimes diagnosing systems, as can be seen in this thread) so that my suggestion is to take it to a dealer for evaluation. While it could be a software issue, perhaps there's a bad connection or corroded wire. But isn't this something that CarMax has to resolve? -

No, you can't - dhh3 's suggestion is no different than what you might accomplish by sticking a Garmin or TomTom navigator on the dash, hence my comment about a single screen in my response to his post. You MIGHT be able to route the audio from the phone through your sound system, but not if you run iOS8 or higher, so even that is moot. -
Congrats on finally getting through the process. Enjoy the new ride. However I do hope that your extended warranty is FCA branded - aftermarket warranties are usually way too restrictive and have lots of loopholes.

He doesn't need an iPhone to navigate. In fact the best navigation on any phone is with the Windows phones with Nokia's HERE application that is included for free and includes everything from traffic to public transit schedules. From there you can step down to either Android or iPhone. But I am happy with the OEM navigation because I only need the single screen in front, rather than having to deal with a phone AND the vehicle's display tech, plus it is fully integrated with the steering wheel controls and speech recognition systems. I have my music on a 32 Gig SD card AND on an iPod that I keep in the arm rest - I have a charger plugged into the AC outlet for charging the cell phone if it is in need of a charge, because batteries do not like to be charged too often, so optimum life is realised if you onl charge it fully from an almost discharged state. Yes, a number of people have had issues with the nav radio - but knock on wood mine is fine and so is my nephew's, which he's had 18 months longer than I have mine for. -

All of the 8.4" equipped 2011 and later DJs are camera ready - and, as noted you don't NEED a lockpic to install a backup camera, though apparently you can enable it on demand and can have more than one camera with the device. I decided to keep my vehicle factory stock and installed her factory backup kit - It took a few hours of my time and a trip to the dealer to enable the feature - you would be trading off the additional functionality of the lockpic against the lower cost to simply enable the backup camera feature by choosing one mechanism over the other. -
The video input is located on pins on one of the multiconnectors on the rear of the radio. Which pins is easily determined by looking at the installation instructions for the OEM backup camera kit, available from dealers (I got mine from eBay) - the manual can be found here: http://www.moparonlineparts.com/docs/82212553.pdf As it happens 'they' (being the Chinese aftermarket suppliers) sell a video transmitter and receiver with the connector pins that go into the connector (it certainly looks that way from the picture) pre-installed at a very reasonable price . . . . . but it really isn't complicated to run wiring from the rear of the vehicle to the front - in fact I went with the OEM kit altogether and let my dealer make the connection to the back of the radio and program the vehicle for the same money they were going to charge just for the programming. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Transmitter-Receiver-For-Car-Monitor-Backup-Rear-View-Parking-Camera-/191539878373?fits=Make%3ADodge%7CModel%3AJourney&hash=item2c98aa99e5&vxp=mtr In order to have the video image appear on screen you will need to have your dealer 'flash' the sales code for the backup camera into the vehicle - again that information can be found in the installation manual. Whatever you decide to do, good luck. The full kit, complete with the harness and the OEM camera, which is integrated into the lift gate handle could be bought here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/11-15-Dodge-Journey-INTERGRATED-REAR-VIEW-BACK-UP-CAMERA-KIT-OEM-NEW-MOPAR-/191634507878?fits=Make%3ADodge%7CModel%3AJourney&hash=item2c9e4e8866&vxp=mtr The OEM camera (without the cable harness) can be bought for US$92 here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-MOPAR-LIFT-GATE-HANDLE-2011-12-DODGE-JOURNEY-W-BACKUP-CAMERA-68096254AA-/361156394344?fits=Make%3ADodge%7CModel%3AJourney&hash=item5416993d68&vxp=mtr

Again, if you are looking for a four season tire that works well in snow just buy one of those, rather than a summer-rated LT tire. They are classified as 'All Weather', as opposed to 'all season'. But keep in mind that ANY tire you buy that is intended to be used everywhere is itself a compromise, and if you live in an area that gets a lot of cold snowy weather (and you do), then you are probably better off buying a 3 season ('All-Season') or a summer rated tire for the non-winter months and a proper winter tire for the cold months when snow is on the ground - and if you put them on a spare set of steel wheels you can swap them out cheaply - they will pay for themselves over time because of the money you will save from twice-a-year balancing and installation, you will get the mileage of two sets of tires by having two sets of tires and the tire beads won't be stressed either. Your factory alloy wheels will also not be subject to the abuse of salt and grit during the winter months. I do not have TPMS sensors on my spare wheels, but nothing *really* prevents you from installing a set, since the system is adaptive.

You will find switched power at the front power outlet below the radio and aircon controls - it isn't hard to get to. You'll also find switched power in the fuse block that is behind and below the glove box. I used that to operate the GPS in my last Journey, but no longer since I have the OEM navigation radio in the '14. But wait. Don't you already have a backup camera? I thought R/Ts in Canada have them as standard equipment . . . . . If there is no backup camera you have another option if you want to go that route, you can plug the receiver into the video input of your OEM radio and have the dealer enable the backup camera by programming the sales code - you could see the image on the dash screen.
-
You almost certainly want to use switched owner, rather than 'hot' leads for the monitor . . . but the rear power outlet is indeed the best and most easily accessed point in the rear.

You went from a 273 horsepower 3.7 litre engine to the 173 hp 4 banger 2.4 and were trying to pass at 90 mph - what did you expect?
-
Remember the mantra for modern vehicles; OEM extended warranties are relatively inexpensive insurance. So reserve enough money to get one because if anything goes wrong after the basic warranty expires it can be extremely expensive.

By 'aggressive' do you mean 'performance'? The more performance oriented a tire is, the worse it will be in the winter because soft tire compounds turn rock hard when the temps fall below 0 Fahrenheit. I'm in Quebec and we have a tire law here, so when I bought the current Journey I had the dealer include a set of steel wheels with snow tires mounted (I didn't bother with TPS sensors). I swap them out myself in my garage and the simple fact is that over time it will have cost me less than leaving my all weather tires on would have (notwithstanding that it would be illegal here) because my snow tires extend the life of my summer ones. There IS a new class of 'all weather' tires which are properly snow rated and are intended for all season use - you might want to focus on those if you really want to run a single set of tires year-round. Search 'tires all weather' on Google as a starting point.

They call it a CUV for a very good reason. The 3rd row is acknowledged to be cramped and not easy to get into. It is intended for youths, not adults, though as you proved, it can be done. If this is a rarity, then it will do, but if you plan a cross-country road trip I'd suggest putting the miles on a relative's Expedition or Yukon if you are looking for comfort for six (or even 5) adults.
