  1. Well, the simplest solution is a cash settlement - you will not miss the subwoofer once you acclimate to the vehicle and when it comes time to sell it you won't get the money for the sound system back. That, of course assumes that the window sticker clearly says that the vehicle has the premium sound package and it actually doesn't. It would be a difficult matter to retrofit the system and unlikely that the manufacturer or dealer would take the unit back . . . but you can always try. I suspect that if you decided to go to court you'd be told to take the money and run. Keep in mind that you are expected to inspect your vehicle and to assure yourself that you are getting everything you expected and that it is in proper condition to get before signing for delivery on the dotted line.
  2. The manual shows a '+' sign for the lower right icon. My radio has a 'settings' icon there. And, while my stupid radio is subscribed for Travelink there are no settings for it. That's just weird, since they use the same firmware for all the radios. Perhaps there's a sales code, or a country code buried in the vehicle's controller? Does anyone know for certain?
  3. You can buy an extended warranty from Chrysler - up to 7 years and 160,000 km from the in-service date - if anything electronic goes bad it can be VERY expensive. You should ONLY buy a warranty from Chrysler - no aftermarket ones. If you can get by with a 7 year 115,000 km zero deductible warranty (Chrysler calls it plan 419), you should be able to negotiate a price for less than $2,000 (and before all the Americans start commenting about how expensive it is, that is just the way Chrysler Canada does it and there are no lifetime warranties and such . . . period) - if your vehicle has the 8" screen with navigation the radio alone is a $2,000 item if it breaks . . . though I'd wager that this vehicle only has the 4.3" screen, which precludes navigation.
  4. So the oil was last changed 18 months ago? At what mileage? Or has the unit been sitting on the lot, unused all this time? That's quite a bit of mileage for a vehicle that's less than 2 years old - and if the oil hasn't been changed - coupled with the 3 replacement and 1 original tire I would be more than concerned about possible abuse and the long term reliability - you only have 9,000 km of bumper-to-bumper warranty left and if there is a major power train claim they may well ask for maintenance records - that 18 month gap could be very costly if something goes wrong. The battery and tires are areas of concern and, depending on maintenance, there could be more . . . . One more question; Has the vehicle been in an accident? I hope the price reflects the risk.
  5. If you have iOS 8.1 on your phone all bets are off. It works reasonably well with my Lumia 920 . . . . and perfectly with my Blackberry.
  6. That noise is how the wear indicators work.
  7. possibly an issue with the left side rear steering wheel switch . . . Consider buying an extended warranty if you plan to keep the vehicle
  8. The tires on my last DJ were fine when I traded it on the present one. There were 54000 km (about 32000 miles) on them with lots left. Those were the 17" tires. The new one only has about 3000 miles on 19" tires . : . I suppose we'll see if the larger tires make a difference.
  9. Not in Quebec. Though that only applies to accidents that occur in Quebec, since insurance companies need to settle claims based on the jurisdiction where an accident will have taken place.
  10. Since it is under warranty, let them change anything they want (I agree that the likelihood of it being the cable is low). As long as when they're done it all works properly. The more they change now, the less likely you are to have to go back next week to have them change something else.
  11. OK - LOTS of VINs online . . . . thanks again. But the file names are the same as what I have now, so any differences in the radio features are likely tied to a 'country code' buried in the BCM . . . . .
  12. The title pretty much says it all. I am looking for a VIN from a 2014 or 2015 Journey that is factory equipped with the RB5 (navigation) radio. Why am I looking for it? Because the radio in my Canadian Crossroad doesn't seem to have the SiriusXM TravelLink feature set, which is a software function. I have a subscription to TravelLink, which my radio confirms, but the lower right hand touch-button on my radio says 'settings', where I believe that on the US models it has a '+' sign and says 'more'. And in the settings, there are only two items under the Sirius configuration, neither of which pertains to TravelLink - and that is where the manual says it gets set up. This implies that there is different firmware in the Canadian radio from that which is in the US one and the only way to know for certain is to go to the update site and see if a US update is different from a Canadian one - and for that I need a US VIN. So, if you drive a 2014/2015 Journey with a factory-provided NAV radio, I would really appreciate if you would please send me a private message with your VIN so I can find out whether this is an issue with the basic firmware, or whether it is a function of the country configuration, which is in the BCM. Thanks in advance
  13. Yeah, some of the dealers (maybe a majority of them) seem to have their heads up their butts or are simply very greedy. I'm lucky in that the dealer that sold me my last 2 Journeys is a listener and is willing to help. While he is a big proponent of upselling, I am immune to his sales pitches on that score. But here on the forum we do have a friendly service manager or two here that can help you out. They can update the database with the sales code and then you simply have a local dealer REFRESH the vehicle, and if he wants to charge for that you may be able to convince him not to.
  14. I'm surprised that no one bid on this auction, given the price the seller was asking.
  15. So, agree to the deductible on an interim basis - subject to adjustment once the others get their statements filed. And put that in writing, with a disclaimer explaining that, based on the physical evidence you are categorically not at fault in any case and that you are only doing this to get the process started. Next year go with a different company.
  16. True - they could have left out the Gracenotes feature altogether and then you'd have to chase down ALL of the artwork for ALL of your music if you wanted it on screen. Having a picture of the album cover is nice, but when I'm in my car I am watching the road and it has no impact on the quality of the music (or lack thereof).
  17. That site is only for the underlying operating software.
  18. But are you going to be upset if the problem turns out to be a broken wire in one of the connectors and NOT the modules . . . . .
  19. The first one is a possibility if it works. The second one is not. The price for the one from the Journey is, to my mind below the threshold of pain, so even if it doesn't work you can always go back to eBay and buy another and still have hundreds of dollars left in your pocket - and once you figure out how to access it the first time it becomes a much quicker, less daunting task - I can swap out my radio in less than 3 minutes now - the first time it took 15 because I was concerned about breaking things because I didn't quite know what to expect. There seem to be a few of the modules on the site if you search with the part number and leave out the suffix letters, but that Journey one is the cheapest. The possible donor vehicles are the 300, the Charger and the Journey - (I now know more about this stuff than I care to).
  20. Redtomatoman: Hmmmmmm . . . . . I see from your screen that you have a 'more' button on the lower right corner of your radio display. On my Canadian unit I have a 'settings' button there - and while I have a TravelLink subscription, the menu entries are not present in my radio and, even though the radio says I'm subscribed I have no access to the service - they don't support it in Canada, but I spend enough time in the US that having gas prices and such would be nice to have while I'm there. I wonder if there are different Canadian and American versions of the firmware, with the Canadian missing the TravelLink code? If someone in the US has a V2 RB5 navigation radio (2013 and later model) and could PM me their VIN I would like to check to see if their firmware is different than mine by checking the update site. The information would be most appreciated. Edit: Well, a kind soul pointed out that there are VINs all over the web and I found one from a nice US unit, checked the code and it was the same. So it must be an issue tied to the vehicle configuration, which is in the BCM.
