09 R/T vs 12 SXT
bramfrank replied to Blount35121's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
The '12 has remaining powertrain warranty and may possibly qualify for an extended factory warranty if you plan to keep it (ONLY buy a factory warranty if you decide to) LOTS of interior refinements, egine and transmission refinements and 3 years less corrosion on the newer one as well. Bells and whistles are simply things that break. -
It isn't likely to be a hardware issue - if it can receive anything from SXM then it can receive everything. But it is most likely a corrupted memory location - the unit would need to be re-initialised and I have no idea whether this is something that can be done in the field. The new radio will resolve the issue.

I read that they've delayed the new model to 2017 as well.

TSB: Idler Pulley Noise 2011-2014 3.6L

It isn't in the US/Canada market, but is obviously available in others. -
I always wonder why people can't be bothered to read the manuals for their stuff before going on line and asking others to do it for them? At the very least they can search on Google, where they'll likely find what they are looking for in spades. In the case of this thread there are pages and pages of valid results on this topic alone. When I ran a tech support group in a previous life our staff would note the fact as 'Failure to RTFM' (there was a checkbox for this), explain that the manual was created and provided to them for their benefit and that they needed to go and read it and explain that while the first inane call was free, the next time they called for support for something that was obvious and in the manual, it would be chargeable.

As it says - the procedure toggles the feature. Just do it again to turn it back on.
-
There is a simple procedure that was documented in the manual from my '11 - they seem to have deleted it from the manual that came with the new car, but te procedure still works - I have the 'belt minder' disabled - I wish it also switched off the display reminder - I have to keep pressing 'back' to see my fuel economy.

Map updating is not required. Neither is a Sirius subscription. Take it to your dealer. -
Persistently blowing power steering hose

Sounds like a latent defect due to an inadequate design - very sue-able in small claims court - but you must implement the fix at your expense before suing, because you can only claim the money you spent fixing their problem. -

How many of them do you own? -
We seriously overpay in Montreal - $1.089 as of last night. For our American friends, that translates to US$3.49 per US gallon

I put 60,000 km on an '11 (with the smaller brakes) and never had an issue with those and when I traded it in it had lots of pad left on the original brakes - it is largely about how you use the brakes. The '13 has larger disks and pads - but if you drive like a cowboy you will still burn through pads and warp disks.

I used to weekend at a country house at the bottom of a hill in the lower Laurentians - until they passed the snow tire laws in Quebec I used all-season tires year-round and I NEVER had issues going up and down the slope in any conditions. But my Sister in Law could never manage to get up that driveway in my vehicle . . . . . at one point she gave me heck for not having snow tires, blaming their lack on her inability to get out of the driveway (ignoring the fact that I never had an issue getting the vehicle out even after she would abandon her efforts, leaving the vehicle halfway up the hill). One day, after my wife gave me heck to follow up the Sister in Law's complaints I went out and had a brand new set of snows installed on the van (and didn't tell either of them I'd done it) - and, as you can guess, the very next day when she got stuck in the driveway yet again, she came in and started yelling at me. I took her down by explaining the facts of life: If I could get the vehicle out without difficulty it wasn't the vehicle OR it's tires. AND that even with a brand new set of snow tires installed she STILL couldn't get out of the driveway. It really is more about the driver than it is the vehicle or the tires, though there are some benefits to using snow tires where conditions warrant. Proper driver education and aptitude are the keys.

just tune to the station you are interested in and then touch and hold the 'button' you want to assign to it. The text will be replaced by the frequency of the station. If you press the 'more' button you will see that there are as lot more station positions available than you are ever likely to need. Unfortunately there seems not to be any was to 'forget' a station programmed into the system.

Beyond the aesthetics, the only practical reason to get new wheels is if you need snow tires - mounting a set of snows on one set of wheels and the all-season tires on another will save money in the long run and will save the tire beads from the wear and tear of twice yearly changeovers.

If it isn't leaking it is either something with the master cylinder or the ABS - and yes, unless it is the pads, calipers or rotors it is covered for the duration of the 3 year basic warranty.
-
Do they both do it?

If you search you can find the installation manual for the OEM camera kit - it shows which panels and where to route the wiring. It doesn't look to be all THAT bad - at least not if you have a 5 passenger vehicle.

Yep. In the US the SE comes with steel wheels . . . . . it is clearly described on the Dodge web site and presumably in the brochure. . . . . at least they included covers.

No problem with the car sitting - your mechanic probably consulted his Ouija board before coming up with that one - if sitting did cause issues, you can be certain that Dodge would have a disclaimer in place. As to salesmen? I went through hell getting my deal from a local dealers, but finally got them to not only give me my price, but had them toss in winter wheels and tires as well as selling me Chrysler's 7 year extended warranty at their true cost, which I knew from running a buyer's group for my last DJ. The simplest thing was my negotiating tactic - because I don't care HOW they get to the price, it is ONLY about the size of the check you have to write. They can have my trade for free if they give me a corresponding discount on the vehicle and the payment includes all of the features and services we discussed. And no, there was no way I would take their financing (they wanted me to take a loan and pay it back in a month, and they offered to reimburse me for the loan costs - the spiff must be pretty high). I am using tax paid money to buy the vehicle and the simple fact if that my time is more valuable to me than their profit - since it would have had no impact on my costs, I passed. But dealers insist on weaving an obstacle course littered with smoke and broken mirrors. Why? Because clearly a lot of people do get confused and will sign their deal, if for no other reason than to get the matter over with and get out of the dealership and be away from the pressure tactics.
