Likely the reason the pedal is hard to push is that the vacume has bled off. What comes on when you boost the vehicle? Does it operate as though it would start if it detected the FOB? Maybe the vehicle needs 10 or more minutes to fully boot up? There was an update to deal with battery rundown - of course your problem could be different. If you leave the vehicle undriven, you might want to invest a few bucks in a maintenance charger such as the Opti-mate. Software operated vehicles draw power, especially if you have features like FOB readers and remote starters.

If openstreetmaps have a product and have figured out how to load that product on to Garmin navigators, that's fair game - THEY own the product, THEY choose to give it away. But using someone's paid-for property (as in unlocked maps that Garmin sells) without paying for it is (among other things) illegal in North America and most of the civilised world and whether you believe it or not, is morally wrong.
-
It cost Naveq a LOT of money to collect this 'intellectual property' and they are entitled to revenue for organizing it and packaging it up for resale - this isn't a hook for fishing - It cost Garmin a lot of money to license Navteq's data and package it for delivery to THEIR clients. The OWN it and whether or not you steal the DVD or just copy it, using it without paying the people who did the work IS theft - it isn't a 'construct'. If you don't want to pay for the information, then collect it yourself and collate it and set it up for use in your device - but I'm sorry, but your views about non-physical assets does rob those who own it of revenue for their work. Illegal copying of software IS piracy: The copyright infringement of software (often referred to as software piracy) refers to several practices which involve the unauthorized copying of computer software.

A couple of points; 1. Brake lifetimes are not finite - city driving can be hell on brake pads and rotors - it is all about how you drive. My ex could burn through a set of brakes on her GM van in about 8000 km - when I took it over I ran almost 50K on the same vehicle - and it wasn't the vehicle - when she took over one of MY cars and brake lifespan dropped to 10-12K. 2. The brakes on my '11 SE Plus are fine (so far), they certainly have enough stopping power and (at about 12,000 km) still seem brand new. 3. The brake design change has nothing to do with engine size, because so far they've only changed them on the AWD models - and all except the SE and SE Plus have the Pentastar. Besides, there's only a coule of hundre pounds difference between the models. 4. For 2013 they are supposed to stop supplying 16 inch wheels, offering only 17" (for the US AVP and SE and Canadian CVP and SE Plus models). This probably means that they will be changing the brakes on the rest of the DJs for 2013. It also means that those of us who went out and bought 16" winter wheels will not be selling them to other DJ owners nor able to keep them for our new vehicles (so how about we toss in the price of wheels and tires for those who have made the investment to the claim?).

I agree. but who says life is fair? We all have to make choices - and one choice was to buy the nav - another is that if 'we' want current maps on that navigator the price of keeping it current was available for the asking before signing on the dotted line. If you didn't want to pay the price the alternative was do without altogether or go with a stand-alone navigator and to put lifetime maps on it if they weren't included . Notwithstanding the preceeding, it is downright stupid to promote software piracy - beyond the ethical issues, the illegality of doing this is obvious.
-
If you avail yourself of someone else's property (in this case Intellectual Property, or 'IP') without the permission of it's owner then it IS theft. Garmin does not have a monopoly on navigators, but even if they did it wouldn't make any difference - they don't even own the map data either, but license it from Navteq and incorporate the information into the maps that they sell. If you don't pay for a product, even if it doesn't actually cost them anything it is still stealing.
-
I have to presume that your DJ has every single option possible, because with every checkbox ticked the 'before discussion' price is $36,665. It doesn't matter WHAT you think about the way a company prices it's products - that is up to them. If you don't like it you don't just steal the product. To violate the copyright act; with a very specific exception (and that loophole is being closed as I write this) to copy proprietary media, to break or circumvent the digital locks on someone else's product constitutes theft. Period. To promote the concept likely has it's own set of legal consequences. If you don't like the way Garmin does (or Chrysler or Navteq do) business, then buy from someone else. It isn't up to you to decide to help yourself to Garmin's licensed products just because you don't feel like paying the asking price.

Agreed - that they made changes could be proof of the deficiency.

I'm not certain that anyone here (and in particular US citizens, given the DMCA (*and Canadian ones too, thanks to Herr Harper and his out of touch sidekick Vic (the pr*ck) Toews)) should be be crowing about how they have violated or may try to violate the copyright acts in their respective countries. A site you may want to visit is www.poi-factory.com. Another is www.gpspassion.com

It depends . . . . . deals are in the eye of the beholder. In my opinion, if someone paid me what I see dealers asking for used Journeys (some are asking more than I paid for mine new for units with 30,000 km on them) I'd jump in a heartbeat - but those dealers tend to sit on their inventory forever. You might want to invest an hour of your time to listen to what they have to say . . . . maybe they use 'new math' and you really can trade in and get a new unit and pay less than you are paying today - but be careful that you don't pay that lower monthly fee for extra months - it isn't a deal if it costs more in total.
-
I got a similar letter, though for my other Chrysler, which is a 2000 LHS with 150K km on it - they're looking to liquidate vehicles and will give you a larger than normal trade-in, against a smaller than normal discount on the new vehicle.
-
You may also need to change the upper wiring harness (in fact I'm almost certain you will). You'd be better off trading in and up or, better yet, get a real Garmin Navigator and put it above the mirror (that's where mine is ) and run the wiring through the roof liner, down the right side piller and power it from the fuse block. Pick a model with free lifetime map updates and traffic and you'll be ahead of the game.

Rain Sensing Wipers & Smart Beam?
bramfrank replied to generaltso's topic in Accessories, Modifications
The dash lights do dim when the headlights come on with the wipers - it's been that way for 25 years and more . . . . why? Because the dash doesn't know if it is day or night. All it knows is that for some reason the headlights are on. If you were my ex-wife you'd never have known, because she used to leave the dash lights up at full bright all the time. -
I have a 3.5 V6 equipped Chrysler LH - That ought to be pretty much the same engine that the 09's and 10's have. I paid about $400 to a private mechanic to do the timing belt, the water pump, all the serpentine belts and the tensioner - all Gates branded product except, of course for the water pump was a Bosch. That included a new thermostat, necessary gaskets and replacement coolant. How much harder can the Journey be? Sounds like 5-10 times the labour, from the quote.

The surveys mean nothing. Having said that, and after due consideration, I wonder if he really got an SE (what they call the SE in the US, the sort-of equivalent to the SE+ in Canada)? Did the unit have the other bits? The US SE always came with the rack - unless his was built as a Canadian SE, in which case the unit wouldn't have deep tinted glass, a roof rack or LED tail lights.

FOUND Chrome Hood deflector(pics)
bramfrank replied to caperinmuskoka's topic in Accessories, Modifications
If it is adhesive only then it will eventually break free - you might want to look onto ways to make the installation more permanent. How much did it cost? It is very nice. -
The second generation (11+) Journeys change everything, including the odometer to US measure if you use the 'units' feature on the settings menu of the touchscreen. Since the speedo has both kph & mph markings (presumably in the US the mph is the primary ring) it is simple to use the speedo in with either standard. Presumably the first generation models do something different, given the reply from Windancer.

According to the web site as of this morning the retail price differential between the R/T and R/T Rallye is only $500 (surprisingly, retail price is now less than $30K) and the only differences noted are: 1. Body coloured door handles 2. Body coloured grille 3. No roof rack 4. Voice command is standard From a value perspective, the lack of a rack is worth about $200 in credit, the radio about $400 extra - body coloured handles about $75 less and I can't comment on the grille. This is very different from when I checked it on December 4. Extended warranty questions
bramfrank replied to redtomatoman's topic in Recalls & Technical Service Bulletins
The paint protection package is as required as the 'stain guard' - it represents extra money for the dealership at 100% markup for the MSRP - There is a dialog on the subject at www.redflagdeals.com. Here's a link to the first post in the thread: http://forums.redfla...up-buy-1102770/ For some reason; either there was some sort of database issue or else management seems to have deleted my signature with the details (no notes, no PMs, just found it missing this morning) - so rather than tempt fate, I edited it to suggest people PM me for details. -
Extended warranty questions
bramfrank replied to redtomatoman's topic in Recalls & Technical Service Bulletins
There are no lifetime warranties that I am aware of offered by Chrysler in Canada - extended warranties ARE good in the sense that they'll cover virtually the entire vehicle (if you have a bumper-to-bumper policy). But whatever you do, get the factory/OEM warranty, NOT any third party one because if you have a problem they will try to wiggle out - I ended up suing one that the CAA (Canadian version of the AAA) strongly recommended - the judge found them to be 'disgusting' in their actions - they paid, but what percentage of owners will take it all the way? They know it is a small minority and they cheat. On the other hand Chrysler treats your vehicle the same for the entire policy term - no, they won't pay for brakes and stuff, but they won't after a couple of thousand kilometres use in any case. But if you blow a gasket, the water pump fails and so on they will cover the whole repair and use OEM parts - unlike the 3rd party people who will hit you up for coolant and other minor items - and they don't pay for diagnostics - so they'll pay for the module, but the $500 to figure out that it was defective? Nope. We're still looking for members to participate in our group buy (see my sig) - and the clock is counting down because my personal drop dead date is mid August. If you are a Canadian Chrysler group vehicle owner and were thinking of buying, now is the time - heck, if you change your mind in the first 60 days you can cancel and get a full refund of what you paid!!! -
Scratched Sunroof?
bramfrank replied to generaltso's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
When you bring it in that's the way you describe it - not enough clearance, resulting in the glass being gouged sometimes (as in there seems to be some play in the mechanism). You expect them to replace the glass and adjust (or replace, as appropriate) the mechanism. Don;t get into the 'glass needs to be clean' stuff -= it only gives them a possible reason to deny your claim. -
Scratched Sunroof?

That sounds more like a misadjusted track - a warranty claim.
