  1. My conclusion was that it allowed you slide back for quick access to loose change/toll tokens in the little sliding shelf while driving.
  2. Anytime you add electronics to base OE electronics on todays vehicles if it isn't done properly you will undoubtedly load the load the off key system. The add on must be controlled by the system (CanBus in our case). There were some problems with the BCM (body control module) staying on alert mode and this was resolved by reflash of software. I believe the tracking system used in South Africa is just an add-on similar to LOJACK which is availiable in US/CAN and your probably correct that 24 hour ever on system is a source of constant draw on the battery.
  3. Corosion on the relay/TIPM and possibly at the starter itself. If it starts without a jumper after jiggling the relays around would seem to indicate the alternator circuit is viable. I would clean all terminals from the battery (how old) to the starter.
  4. You didn't state how many miles on the DJ Carolin 2010 possibly on the road since mid 2009 might need tierod/bushings replaced, clunking can be indicative of wear in these areas.

    I have found that for the ride I like and an acceptable mpg I have always set pressure 2 lbs greater than suggested on door sticker. While it's nice for mpg you will experience greater tire wear along with increased brake wear, as the DJ has great roll to in stock configuration.
  6. Sorry to hear your experiencing a problem on such a new DJ. Having said that I would be back at the dealer pronto, I see you probably do your own wrenching but you paid for new so use the warranty - besides your dealing with a totally different beast than a '66 Charger.

    Looking at the parts manual the end caps appear to clip in at the open end. One clip on either side which probably requires you use a removal tool and press the cap in towards the center while lifting the open edge.

No not a recall just customer complaint driven software update that was driven by radio working intermittently going to high volume etc. If it is chargeable for 2012 units I can't really say,but it can vary from dealer to dealer as some take their jobs seriously and others will use any excuse to charge.
  9. Quite honestly I don't know the wheel nut torque spec as I don't do my own wheel work.
  10. Yes 2012 was included in the flash for radios acting up it can only done by a dealer.
  11. There was a software reflash for a similar problem but without model year it's hard to say that's what is required. Check with a reliable dealer.
  12. It's been reported before that improper torqueing of the wheel lugs will cause a slight vibration. You can always loosen re-torque and make sure you do it in a cross pattern.

The fobs on the '11 - '14 are passive entry types so they activate the body control module from approximately 6 feet from the DJ enabling the door to unlock when you touch the door handle, those yrs also have push button start. I would say you lucked out on the car battery if it is indeed the OE unit.
  14. Welcome to the forum. Micpit you don't give any details such as year or possibly extra added electronics etc. Batteries typically have a 3 - 5 year replacement cycle on most vehicles so that's the first thing to note. Have the battery load tested along with the charging system. Don't leave the FOB (if it's 2011 - 2014 model) close to or in the DJ when parked as this may be keeping the body control module awake therefore depleteing battery. Let us know what your solution is when you resolve.

  16. I can appreciate your frustration if you have on going problems and the '09s did have problems in certain areas. Having said that you must appreciate that it is an '09 possibly on the road since mid '08 and a 6 year old vehicle is bound to be more prone to what seem never ending problems. Best of luck on resolving and please when you find a solution let us know how it was resolved so we can all benefit.
  17. The single click may be the shift lever locking solenoid which actuated when brake pedal is depressed. Rubber smell could be from the work done when you had the pulley replaced,I would revisit the repair installer and have them double check the work they did.
  18. Just my 2 cents with regards to Chrysler trannies - I have driven exclusively Mopar since 1984 in both a service and personal capacity a new one every 3 -5 yrs and have never had one fail nor act finicky.
  19. I would go back to the original dealer who replaced the unit and explain your experience and at the same time call Chrysler customer service hotline and open a file number on the problem. It does sound like a software glitch and probably needs a system reflash via StarScan dealer only system.
  20. Many problems connected with the steering column relate back to the "clockspring" assembly. I would suggest first thing to try is always disconnect the car battery for a period of time to reset TIPM and CanBus after that have the clockspring checked and/or replaced.
  21. I don't doubt it can be ordered via Chrysler but the cost/labor and wait time if backordered may be prohibitive.
  22. Then disconnect the negative side of the battery at the jumper point for 10 minutes and reconnect to reboot the TIPM and associated electronics to see if that clears it up.
  23. There is no reason to disconnect wiring as that will assuredly give you signals(lights) in the dash which are annoying at best. I am no means an authority on auto safety systems but I think that a dealer may answer those issues better. Hit the scrap yard circuit via the net in BC for a scrap replacement and remember to disconnect the battery when toying with the airbag system.
  24. It could be a software glitch that requires a system reset of the TIPM and while it's nice to fix these things yourself without a dealer visit I would say as it's a '14 DJ use the warranty.
  25. If you manage to piece it back together really the functionality you lose is the auton-actuation. How many years have we all driven with a fixed head restraint. Does it show any signals in the dash display?
