That's not necessarily the case anymore. Since the 8.4 became available to build again starting 11/1, they've started appearing on dealers' lots. My dealer has a couple of them on the lot.

So it sounds like the Rallye is basically the same thing as the American R/T.

It's spelled mileage, not milage. Spell check anyone?

While we're at it, I believe it's infotainment, not infotrainment. -
Daytime Running Lamps
generaltso replied to b1pig's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
That's only true if the DRLs came activated from the factory. This is not the case with the Crew & R/T trim for some odd reason. It looks like 2011 Mainstreet and Express trim levels had DRLs as an option. For 2012, it's the AVP (CVP) and SE trim that offer DRLs as an option. Officially, they're not available on the SXT, Crew, and R/T for 2012 although I've seen an SXT that had them listed on the window sticker. Believe me, I checked to make sure they really didn't work before paying the dealer to activate them. It makes no sense, but that's the way it is. -
Playlists on 8.4 Touchscreen
generaltso replied to abeirnes's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
I know this is an old thread, but wanted to add that the Uconnect system seems to support playlists in m3u format. This is good because you can export playlists from iTunes in m3u format and then put those playlists on a thumb drive or SD card. Seems to work well. -

Thanks for that. I used your info to get my dealer to enable the DRLs for me. They would have had no idea how to do it otherwise. -
Daytime Running Lights Activated
generaltso replied to generaltso's topic in Accessories, Modifications
No need to guess because I know for a fact this is true. Enabling the DRLs is just a matter of adding the right sales code to the VIN, but most dealers don't know that. My dealer didn't know it either until I told them how to do it. They said they've never had the request before. The only reason they even knew how to add the sales code was that they had just installed my trailer hitch a few days before and had to add the sales code for that to get the wiring working. -

Your dealer was correct in saying that your R/T was not equipped with DRLs, because it's not even an option to have them enabled from the factory on an R/T. But that only means that the sales code for DRLs is not assigned to your VIN. There's a whole list of sales codes that the dealer can add to your VIN as dealer installed options, and DRL is one of them. This is the same kind of thing they have to do to enable the trailer hitch wiring, it's just a different sales code. Your dealer was wrong about the hardware for DRLs not being there. There is no additional hardware needed, just a sales code and a computer flash. It shouldn't cost you more than a half hour of labor. If you really want them, you should go back to your dealer and specifically tell them that they need to add the DRL sales code through their Dealer Connect software and flash the computer. -

They're not required, but they're certainly not illegal anywhere. Most new cars that I've seen do come with DRLs, and they're advertised correctly as a safety feature. The Journey is the first car I've seen that gives the option of turning them on and off, which makes the fact that they're disabled even more pointless. According to the 2012 spec sheet, DRLs are not even available as an option on the SXT, Crew, or R/T. -
For some odd reason, Chrysler ships most US Journeys with the Daytime Running Lights disabled. There's an option in the Uconnect settings to turn them on and off, but it doesn't actually do anything. I went into my dealer today to have them enabled. They weren't sure how to do it, so I told them that I read in this forum that the sales code for DRLs needs to be added to my VIN and then the computer in the car has to be flashed with that new code. They were able to add the DRL code to my VIN through their Dealer Connect software without having to contact Chrysler, and successfully flashed the car. Now the DRLs work as expected and can be turned on and off through the Uconnect option. Why in the world wouldn't all US Journeys just ship from the factory that way? If somebody really didn't want them, they could just turn them off. I can't think of a single reason why a safety feature would be disabled from the factory, but I'm glad I was able to get them enabled without too much drama.

Songs Start Over?
generaltso replied to generaltso's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Thanks Chris. I have an 8.4 and my car was built after 10/4/11, so it doesn't look like that TSB will help me. It seems like the songs starting over is more of a design decision than a bug since it doesn't start podcasts and audiobooks over each time. It would be nice if that was a configurable option, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. The bigger annoyance is the re-cataloging of the entire iPod every time I cycle the ignition. Hopefully, there will be a TSB for that soon. -
2012 Navigation voice commands

Thanks, I just called and gave them a report of the issue. They haven't heard of any similar reports yet, but will document it. -

I asked my dealer about the issue. They've never heard of it, and said there really isn't anything they can do unless Chrysler releases a software update. Should I call Customer Care and officially request a bug fix? -

Excellent, thanks! I know the 2012 8.4N is just starting to filter out to dealers, so hopefully other reports will start coming in if it's a software bug. Should I bother mentioning the problem to my dealer? I can't imagine they'd be able to do much without a software update, but I'll ask them about it if it will help get a trouble report submitted to Chrysler. -
Confirmed. I put my winter wheels/tires on with aftermarket TPMS sensors (from Tire Rack). The EVIC immediately updated to the pressure readings in the snow tires. The TPMS light didn't come on at all. That's awesome!

That's too bad. I guess the US version doesn't do you much good if the pricing is completely different in Canada.

Chris, do you know if there's a software update in the works that will stop the system from doing a 10 minute re-catalog of the music on a connected iPod every time the ignition is cycled? I know that it needs to re-catalog the music when changes are made to the iPod's content, but mine is doing it every time I start the car even though the iPod hasn't changed at all. As always, thanks for any info you can provide! -
It looks like Max Care actually does cover shocks and brakes (except pads and rotors). http://www.dodge.com/en/service_contracts/maximum_care/new_vehicles/index.html There's an option on that page to buy warranties online, which shows the retail price of all the availalble options. It looks like retail price for the plan i bought is $890, so i guess $500 isn't too bad. Is there a similar Canadian site that you can use to get the retail prices?
-
Yeah, all of the gadgetry is what I was most interested in having covered for an extra couple of years. I would imagine replacing anything to do with the 8.4 inch screen wouldn't be cheap. What really sold me on it was 5 years of loaner cars during any maintenance. I hate taking shuttles.
-
Retail price is $350, though I got them for much cheaper with an industry discount through my employer. The OEM bars may be cheaper, but they don't lock, which was the biggest reason I wanted to go with something else.
