The fobs being close to the car shouldn't be an issue as they should be passive unless a button is pressed on them (at that, the fob's range for the keyless entry system is a pretty small bubble on both the drivers side, passenger side, and rear hatch). The handles on the DJ on the other hand are another story in that they can be incredibly sensitive, and, even without the fob around, will activate with slight touches. I was going to ask him about that too if I hadn't noticed that he was parked in a garage; If he had been outside, it's very possible that rain could activate the DJ's systems pretty regularly, as I have done with a hose while washing it. cheers! Just got back from my trip to Dorset (Huntsville) and for 766km going through Algonquin park with the all the steep elevation changes, I managed 8.8L/100km total. It was 8.2L/km going there, and 9.4L/km coming back. I think the difference was that on the way there, I used the ACC sparingly (actually, it was off for 3/4's of the ride and then for quick a quick 5 minutes every so often at the end of the journey), and on the way back, it was on all the way. I also maintained a speed of around 90-95km/h for most of the ride (most of the trip, the posted limit was 80, except for the 417, which is 100, where I still maintained about 98km/h). If it weren't for all the steep grades, I probably could have done better over all. Funny thing is that the EVIC showed 8.4L/100km going there, and 8.0L/100km coming back (the evic was reset each way when I filled up for gas). So while it seems I was able to drive more conservatively on the way back, the AC kills the gains, not surprisingly, but then again, the Evic doesn't take the AC load into consideration...kinda odd.. On the flip side, my GPS showed 9.3L/100Km both there and back; it was programmed with epa's estimates of 9.4L/100Km Highway, and 13.8 City. the GPS bases it's calculation on these estimates along with current speed, how fast you took to get to that speed, distance travelled, and elevation travel. I'm starting to think that the Evic is programmed with Chrysler's own 12.6L/100km city/7.8L/100Km highway as base, and modifies it depending on predetermined accelerator use, rather than having a sensor that tracks fuel flow vs distance travelled, which you would figure would be pretty easy as it has to deliver a specific amount of fuel to each cylinder, so it's already making the calculation. EPA's calc seems dead on vs my GPS, and the return trip, if they did their tests with ACC always on, which would be more realistic to expect. thoughts? One other note. I did actually use Cruise control for most of the trip there, and found one nice surprise; switching from Drive to Manual shift, including actual manually shifting, did not take the DJ out of cruise mode. This came in extremely handy for hills in that I just left in cruise, would down shift when hitting a hill, and then go back into OD when I hit the peak. Made for very easy management of the hills. yeah, you have to talk to the parts department guys because they consider it a "special part". I just went with conventional for the summer. When I go to change it in the fall, I'll change it to a synthetic for those cold morning starts.

Just did my first oil change at 5795km; Warning came on around 5700km or so. Oil/filter was pretty dark, but not the worst I've seen. Interesting that it comes on at this time when the maintenance guide suggests 13K km.. *shrug* no biggie. For those wanting to know, Canadian Tire stocks the filters; they are listed as Fram CH10955 in their books (only one available for the V6 3.6L engine), but they didn't have them on the shelves. they have them in the back stock room and turns out they are the Mopar filters. just under $10. All and all an extremely easy oil change; love the filter placement. There was more than 6L in the pan as I ran out of room emptying the waste back into the old bottles; will have to plan a little better next time. Engine sounded even smoother after the change and a quick drive. Doing a 350Km trip tomorrow morning and again tomorrow night, so we'll see how the mileage goes. Cheers! Steph S.

well, if you want a rudimentary example of why it's good to change your brake pads after changing warped rotors: put both your hands together as if you were praying. Now bend your fingers to to the right. now straighten your left hand again, leaving your right hands finged bent back. your left hand is the replaced rotor while your right is the old brake pads... like I said, rudimentary, but gives you an idea of why .

I thought that the third row had it's own mini fan/blower, else the system wouldn't be strong enough to reach back there. I checked my second row quickly yesterday and found it quite powerful (as did the three year old, who asked me to turn it off as the "wind" was bothering her....)

true enough, but there are very legitimate reasons why people try to circumvent DRM. More and more we see very shody works being sold, particularly with software, or works saying new and improved yet very little has changed, or they've removed features (as I just found out with my new garmin, now having to pay extra for ecoroute ), and that once you've paid for and opened, it's yours with very little chance of refund. In that respect, I'm a very big proponent of try before you buy. As I demonstrated, I tried the map, liked what I saw, and paid my dues. Obviously not everyone is like that, but there are a few. Unlocked maps really can be hit or miss. I had gotten a north american update for a UK garmin for my wife's parent in laws (not my parents...long story)a number of years ago, and it worked fine on the first shot. I had tried a couple over the years on mine, but usually had a problems, but I did find the latest 2013.10 update last night on my first shot and it worked flawlessly (before anyone asks, I will not provide it to anyone, sorry). I wanted to check to see if was worth it, which it was, so I just went out and picked up a Nuvi 2595LMT because traffic functions seemed to have improved, and I wanted hands free use for the family (although my three year old in the back tries to get it and the DJ's bluetooth to activate by mimicking what we say ...*sigh*)

Well, Free, after the one time fee that is . My first GPS was a TomTom XL when I bought my Caliber as we we were doing a roadtrip to NS From Ottawa; we had for two years and didn't purchase map updates because it came with 4 free updates, and unlimited free comunity updates, plus we mainly used it to just find locations in our local cities. When we started noticing newer roads weren't appearing during a trip to Toronto, we upgraded to Garmin Nuvi, because we also wanted bluetooth for hands free calling. That was about 2 years ago, and for the most part it's still going strong, however I was "floating" as I drove over a new stretch of highway in Gatineau. So basically if you're just using it for your local city and surrounding area, and there's little new development going on, you shouldn't have to update your map very often, and the device you have should work fine with the current (you'll just get the annoying reminder every so often). If you're planning a road trip, and haven't done an update for a while, extremely good idea to update your map, or pay a little extra and get the lifetime updates(if available for your device), which is obviously useful if you do a lot of traveling, or have a lot of new development your area. New Maps can also give newer features, for example, Garmin's Canadian maps never showed speed limits; From what I've seen, Major highway speeds are are now available. The TomTom actually was fantastic for this as you could set warning if you were overspeed by so much... Of course, if you happen to wear an eye patch and are resourceful, unlocked maps are out there. Dodge dealers seem to send out these letters pretty frequently; I used to ge tthem every couple of weeks when I had the caliber, starting about 2 years after purchase. We ended up going in when they called us directly at the end of this past march(they were trying to dump months end inventory), mainly because I figured if they wanted to entertain us, It didn't hurt to listen, and because if there was a chance I could offload the Caliber, then why not. They ended up giving me way more than what the caliber was worth (although I just saw it online for almost 2.5K more than they gave me..so not worth it ), but just shy on what I owed after almost 4 years. I could have negotiated better, but I was more interested in getting rid of the caliber seeing as there was a couple of thousand in suspension work that needed to be done. Like Bramfrank says, it doesn't hurt to go see them and see what they have to offer and whether it fits what you're looking to do.

Could very well be that; figure you'd see something similar on all journey's though... Found this here; it is indeed an infrared tempurature gauge; was easier to find when I started looking for courtesy lights instead of map lights :D cheers! Steph S.

can you take a picture and post it? Also, do you have the ambient light sensor in the middle of the dash by the bottom of the windshield (if you have auto lights that is)?

I actually made an excel spreadsheet a number of years back that does conversions to imperial when I had started tracking my caliber at purchase.. I could add a second sheet to do imperial to metric as well if anyone's interested? after entering the same info that Fuelly asked for (trip mileage, litres filled, cost per litre, it then calculated L/100Km, Km/L, MPG, G/Mile as well as how many KM/Miles you should have been able to travel on one tank of gas...

Interesting you would say that; my wife and I were talking about it yesterday commenting how we liked that it the auto headlights didn't come on when we were just in the shade of an overpass. They did come on while I was under the tree's of a forest though. As for the safety aspect of the Autolights when the wipers come on; I don't think it's as important if you have DRL's. If you're in the states and DRL is optional (depending on the state), then it becomes more of a safety thing. But I don't think I've ever turned on my headlights in the past when it started to rain, unless it got extremely dark at the same time, which I don't think ever happened.

good question; it's probably the same mirror that's found in the Charger/Durango/Cheroke as it has both the uconnect mics and the "sensor" in the front. The three other vehicles have the autodimming high beams as an option, but don't know if the hardware needs to be added to the mirror itself, or if it just requires the appropriate module to be added to the vehicle to have it activated.

Personally I turn mine off shortly after they are turned on because I find they are a bit much; the wife loves it on her side and when I had my mom in the passenger seat, I turned it on without her knowing and she thought she was having hot flashes. I've never had heated seats before, but I think they are plenty hot.

interestingly enough, my rearview mirror does have the light sensing camera...Guess I should go drive around with my highbeams and see if it works Just went to the store to pick up breakfast stuff for the morning and nope, she no work

the only rattling I have in the DJ are self inflicted by metal water bottles. If the consol cover is rattling that much, and you just got it, have the dealer check it. If anything, it should be pretty stiff right now until it's been used a bit. as for the rear, do you have the 3rd row seating? if not, maybe you're putting the weight on a place that's causing the the cargo cover to warp, or slightly open, causing the leading edge to clatter? I have the 3rd row so I only have the small compartment at the far rear, but still haven't heard anything that wasn't self infliced (damn girl guide crap....).
