Is it AWD or FWD? Our 2012 Crew V6 FWD gets normally 25-26mpg every tank. That's with ~80% highway miles at 70mph. I was getting those numbers basically after the fist oil change at 4k miles. Yours should be better if it's a FWD...unless you're packing a lot of extra weight around?

I've seen 4 good size options for the DJ 19" wheels throughout this forum: 235/55/19 (size recommended by Dodge) 245/50/19 (speedo reads 64.78mph at 65mph true) 245/55/19 (speedo reads 66.96mph at 65mph true) 255/50/19 (speedo reads 65.67mph at 65mph true) 245/55 is the worst option since it'll be ~2mph fast on the speedo.

That's a long vacation (and sentence )!

Why the heck did you trade in a 1 year old vehicle? Bet you lost a lot of $$$ in that deal.

Very good glad you got her fixed up. How hard of a job was it? Go long did it take? Anything to note for future people that may have to change it?
-
Yep, wheel bearing sound for sure. Like a whirling/humming/almost grinding sound huh? How many miles are on your DJ?
-
Yep, they just replace the left cylinder head. The right one was apparantely manufactored properly. We had ours replaced 40k miles ago and haven't had a problem since. It's a fairly easy part swap at the dealership.

There was a thread awhile back, it seems like all new vehicles come with those stupid stickers covering the drain holes. There's one or two on each door, plus a couple on the back hatch. MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE ALL THE STICKERS!!! I think the factory forgot to remove them. There's no other reason I can think of to have them all sealed shut.

I got a two monitor DVD player for about $70 over black friday last year. They are about 1/2" in depth. They just use velcro straps to wrap around the headrest. Work out great! And cheaper than tablet's.

those with fuel level issues
onecrazyfoo4u replied to b1pig's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
Yeah I just gave up and lived with it. Mine had the problem from day 1. They replaced the fuel pump module and it still had the problem, always shows 7/8 full. I can sometimes fill it up just over 7/8...but whatever. I still get a 400-450 mile range out of the vehicle before the low fuel light turns on. Then I can usually pump 17-18 gallons into it. This means the low fuel light comes on for me, at about 2-3 gallons remaining which seems reasonable to me. On my 2012 DJ Crew. So I think the tank is filling up all the way, just doesn't reflect it via the gauge. Whatever, life goes on! -
It would've been an A+ if you'd gotten the V6 . I didn't even want to test drive the 4 banger. No way a 4 banger has enough power to push a 4000lb vehicle...unless it's turbo.

2013 Crew vs 2012 R/T
onecrazyfoo4u replied to tk-4's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
I don't think you'll be dissappointed going with a journey. You get ALOT of bang for the buck compared to other brands out there. When we were shopping for new vehicles, or budget was $25k and the DJ was the only vehicle that we could get brand new with all the features we wanted. Anything else for $25k would be used with 50+k miles on them. It was an easy decision for us . -
Interesting find. I also went with the Callahan pads/rotors kit from Amazon for $180 or whatever. I've had them on for about 10k miles now without issue. Just rotated the tires the other day and checked all 4 corners. The pads are all wearing evenly and performing well. No more brake shuddering like the stock brakes. I'll keep my fingers crossed for them! What I have noticed is sometimes when slowing down (without touching the brakes at all) I'll get a slight shuddering when the transmission downshifts. So I'm wondering if people are thinking it's brake shuddering, when it's really a transmission shudder...

My first oil change light came on at 4k miles. Then I changed it at 8k miles again and every 8k miles after that according to the manual. This was on my 2012 DJ.

I wonder if the back carriers that hook up to the hitch would be better for fuel economy than the rooftop carriers? You would think so since the luggage is out of the windstream at least. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Series-63153-Mounted-Carrier/dp/B001G4Z5J0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1410820141&sr=8-2&keywords=hitch+luggage+racks

2013 Crew vs 2012 R/T
onecrazyfoo4u replied to tk-4's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
Personally I would stray from both of them. I would feel like my car was violated if a dog was in it constantly. And any accident on the record never looks good, no matter how minor it is. Prices seem pretty high too...maybe Canada costs more. I bought my 2012 Crew for $25k brand new (with 7 seats, heated seats, leather, sunroof, 19"s, etc...most options). It apprases right now with 65k miles for $18k. -
Don't you love the fake plastic chrome wheels? I hate mine. Getting ready to plastidip them black. Did you plastidip the grill? Did you take it off or just dip the entire thing then peel the excess off around it? Looks excellent.

LED Headlight Bulbs

That is very impressive; looks very similar to HID! Looks like LED will be the headlight of the future! -
How to take off chrome clad wheels?
onecrazyfoo4u replied to onecrazyfoo4u's topic in Wheels & Tires
Cool, I won't tape it before I plastidip them then. We'll see how they turn out! I'll probably do them on the vehicle so that I get the lugnuts dipped black as well. I'll just shove some plastic covering behind the wheel to protect everything else. -
How to take off chrome clad wheels?
onecrazyfoo4u replied to onecrazyfoo4u's topic in Wheels & Tires
Interesting. You would think they would come off since they have 5 center clips that appear to be holding them on. Okay, guess I'll just dip them while on the wheel...just sucks that now I have to do some taping around the rim. I'm just not a fan of them since they are plastic...which heavily reminds me of a hubcap. I just can't imagine it costs Dodge more money to manufactor these than the other 19" wheel options. -
How to take off chrome clad wheels?
onecrazyfoo4u replied to onecrazyfoo4u's topic in Wheels & Tires
Many many DJ's came with advertized "chrome clad wheels". They actually charged an extra $500 for that stupid option even! What they really are is a steel wheel with plastic hubcaps that look like chrome. It's what the oem wheels were for the "chrome" option. They looked like this (if you look close you can see the real steel wheel rim around the hubcap): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Qty-1-19-Dodge-Journey-Factory-OEM-Chrome-Clad-Wheel-Tire-/300878539800 http://www.ebay.com/itm/DODGE-JOURNEY-OEM-CHROME-CLAD-WHEEL-RIM-2009-2012-19x7-2374-/181061217600?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Wheels&hash=item2a2816ed40&vxp=mtr -
How to take off chrome clad wheels?
onecrazyfoo4u replied to onecrazyfoo4u's topic in Wheels & Tires
No, I know how to take the wheel off the vehicle. On the steel wheel is the cheapo 19" chrome clad wheel / hubcaps. It's like a plastic hubcap coated in that fake plastic chrome. It's what all the standard DJ's came with. There were no oem chrome wheels...just the oem chrome clad hubcaps. -
I can't figure out how to take off the chrome clad wheels/hubcaps. They have 5 clips holding the center on under the centercap of the wheel. But even if you loosen those, the don't budge around the rest of the wheel. Are they clipped on in multiple places? Do you pry them up with some type of edge like a screw driver? If anybody knows, please let me know!
