Try to vacuum it out. If you don't want the ring to go through the vacuum then put a nylon stocking over the end of the hose and secure with an elastic.

I got mine at Costco (Merivale, Ottawa) . They had to order them in, took about a 10 days. $48 each, awesome price. CT charges double that. I got my tires/rims installed, balanced and mounted for less than $1000 (Bridgestone Blizzaks). One perk of ordering is something not on the shelf is that they will let you schedule your appointment which is much better than the usual first come/first served.

Had to have my Cam Phasers replaced
CCCacher replied to redtomatoman's topic in Engine & Transmission
Yes, I hate it when my phasers misfire when at warp speed. I'm sure Scotty can fix them. :hysterical2: Sorry, had to post this. :dreamy: -
When I remote started today, the seat was on low. Afterwards when I just got in and started it was on high. I'm not sure if this is planned or how it decides when to do high or low.

The shame!! Zo i cante spel thee moost bestest. :dreamy: :backtotopic: Anyway, got my winters installed yesterday, no problems but it does look like a close fit. They ride real nice, not loud at all. Have a road trip tomorrow with a full vehicle so we will see how they perform. Pics are in my gallery. The baby moon hubcaps are looking like a good idea, might paint them black though. Might have to look in to this a bit more. If there are any others in Ottawa that want to do a group order it might be something to consider, save on shipping. I'll see if I can find a local source first though.

I can see why any other rim could be a problem. This looks like a close fit. -

Cheapest option for 19" tires... I've found it.
CCCacher replied to AdamBrisebois's topic in Wheels & Tires
I was going to say I'd never use used tires but upon thinking about it I just don't know if I'd want to get used tires on-line. I'd prefer to see them first hand. There is a market for used tires, I just sold my old winter tires to someone. They pick them up this evening. I don't think it would bother me too much, especially for winter tires. For long term tires, I'd probably go new but if I had a need for tires short term tires (ie, selling vehicle soon, passing a safety inspection on a budget) I don't think I'd want to lay out 'new tire money' if there was a cheaper option. -
Transmission and wheel inches
CCCacher replied to Francesco Vigotti's topic in Engine & Transmission
You don't need to change anything on the vehicle, you just need to ensure that you get the proper size tire. In North America (just in case it is different in Europe), the standard 19" tire is a 225/55/19 and you can switch to a 225/65/17 no problem. ETA: there is a thread going on in the tire section about getting the proper 17" rim to fit so that it doesn't rub on anything. You need part #44753 (or the European equivalent). -
Yes, I was just going to say I thought that we had confirmation that the 44753's fit. I had no problems with the quick test fit a few weeks ago.

Not yet, still waiting for Costco to call saying they have arrived. Even then I'm going to wait about a week after that before I have them installed so we're probably looking at next week or the week after. I figured I'd just go ahead an have them put on. No sense in trying them on, taking them off only to have to put them back on a few weeks after. It will be earlier than I usually do it but it is just easier and saves me having to buy a jack until the spring. I'm not a high km driver so I'm not too worried about wearing them out (unless the weather gets really warm again).

Off brand tires, steel and no TPMS for $1500??? I don't know about that. I was $950 for the Blizzaks and steels.

The nice thing is that you can return anything to Costco. Funny story, I asked the cashier once if there is anything they don't take back and he told me that they even took back a box of condoms because they guy said his girlfriend got pregnant so they must have been defective. :chairshot: :backtotopic: So I'm not too worried about there being a problem with fit. Frisby tried the rim on with no problems and the rims that you tried were not the correct part # to start. Remember, this post started with someone who was fitting used rims to a newer journey plus there seems to be a lot to trial-and-error fitting happening. The rim number X41753 you posted do comes back to 2008-2011 Journeys http://www.dumontaut...e 2011-2012.pdf but the books must have been updated to account for the 2012 as both places I've been had the new part #44753. I suspect that many places are just using an old book and assuming that the 2012 is the same (which would normally be the case). Anyways, it is just a matter of time before people start flooding in to get winter tires so we'll see if anyone else posts that they are having a problem. One thing that I have been wondering is how different are the two brake setups? To me, bigger brakes means a larger disk and a longer caliper, not necessarily a thicker setup. I'd be more inclined to believe a fit problem with 16" rims squeezing around a bigger brake. Granted, a bigger diameter of brake setup could be a problem near the edge of the rim sidewall if the rim bends back in. It would be really interesting to see pics of both side-by-side with the same factory rim. Might have to snoop around the dealership sometime. What setups are people looking at? Which tire/rim? ETA: Found a link for Dodge rim sizes up to 2013 and they do list the two rims AstralRT tried. http://dprtroues.com...ysler-Dodge.pdf Page is in french but understandable. They do list the X44753 for the Caravan Crew/RT but not the Journey, interesting.

OK, so being the 'smart' guy that I am I wait until the last day of the sale before going to the Costco (on Merrivale) to order the tires/rims. They order the rims, no problem, should be in next week but of course when she looks up the tires she can't order it, probably some sort of production problem or I guess enough people have been taking advantage of the sale. So she looks around and finds 4 over at the Kanata Costco, they have 13 in stock (13??, don't want to be the 4th person looking for theses tires). They won't hold them of course so I pay for the rims and installation and then I have to quickly drive over to get the tires, about a 20 min drive and that much farther from home. I get the tires, no problem they have them waiting then I have the revelation that I could have just ordered the rims from here but it is still early on a Sunday, not quite thinking yet. The nice thing is that 4 tires fit standing up in the back of the Journey without having to fold down the seat. So now I have 4 nice shiny winter tires stacked in the garage to bring back to the other Costco once my rims arrive. So to summarize: 4- BridgeStone Blizzaks WS70 225/65R17's $660 w/tax 4- Steel Rims #X44753 + installation ........... $285 w/tax ....................................................................~$945 w/tax installed About $950 all in plus a little driving, not too bad. Now I have to figure out what I am going to do. Rims should be in next week and they will hold them for about a week so that would put me in to mid/late Oct. Not sure I want my winters on that early, I'll have to see how the weather is doing. What I'll probably do is just pick up the rims then cart the whole lot back once I want them installed.

I was wondering what part numbers they had tried. Maybe they don't have a new copy of "the rim book". Costco and Frisby both came up with this number as the proper steel rim. Feeling more confident about the purchase now. I'll order this week before the tire sale ends but it will be a few weeks after that before I can try one on. I'll update as I progress through this. ETA: This website seems to have the correct info about wheels http://www.wheelsmacpek.com/

Haven't ordered yet, will do this week.
-
That would probably be a good idea,
-
It will be a while before I actually have the tires on the vehicle. Nov or Dec depending on the weather. I will order them next week though.
-
Checked at Costco last night. Yes you can buy the tires, take them home and then bring them back and have them installed for free. Good news, looks like that seals the deal. I'll order them next time I am there.

UPDATE: So, with all the talk that the 17 steels don't fit I went to the guys at a local tire place and they test fitted the recommended rim and said that there was no problem. Part #X44753, same part # that I got from Costo. So that has me wondering what problem other people are having, what rim part # have people tried or do I have different calipers (they look pretty big, build date was 5-12)? The tire store quoted me $62/rim (X44753) and Goodyear Ultragrip Winter (225/65R17) for $178 installed. So that is $960+ $24 enviro fee + tax - $40 mail in rebate (after tax of course) so say ~$1100 Costco quoted me $48/rim (X44753)and Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 (215/65R17) for $172 installed. So that is $880 +$24 + tax -$70 rebate (not sure if it is a mail in or immediate) so that is ~ $950. Got a few other quotes but they must have been smoke'n something good. (CT $90/rim, I don't think so) and some other other place that I e-mailed that quoted some 'fresh off the boat' no-name brand for the same price as I got for brand names at the above stores). So it looks like the winner will be Blizzaks from Costco. I'll likely go with 225's though to keep to the recommended tire size so that will likely add a few $. The trick now it timing. The rebate ends Oct 7th so I need to order them before then. They said a week or so to get the tires and rims in and then I have 7 days after they call to pick them up. That likely means before the end of Oct. I'll have to ask if installation is included at a later date. I don't usually have my winters on before mid Nov or Dec. I may just do it myself (but I'll have to get a decent floor jack with enough lift for the vehicle).

So, to translate from "corporate talk" to "normal words", they figure most people who are putting out 'R/T money' in Canada with our 11 months of winter :cold: are going to opt for the AWD anyways so it isn't worth offering the FWD.
-
So where is it rubbing? Is it that the caliper is not fitting within the rim or is the hub of the rim rubbing on the side of the caliper? I'll assume the second option if we are talking about spacers and offset.
-
Has anyone looked at getting 18's for the winter? Tire prices on-line seem more reasonable than 6 years ago when I was last looking for winters.
-
I think part of the problem here is that the larger brakes were added part way through the model year so I'm assuming that the lists that tire shops get might have info taken from the start of the model year. Being just a regular guy I'm relying on the tire shop to have the knowledge to fit my vehicle with proper rims. I understand all of the priciples involved in tire/rim size and offset but I don't have all of the factory specs on what will fit around the updated brakes. There has to be something out there considering the number of journeys that come factory with 17's on them and we can't be the only people wanting to put winters on. I'm not sure if DodgeCACares has any info on what we should be looking for. I asked the dealer for a quote on winters last week when getting my oil changed and they didn't seem at all phased about putting 17's on and quoted me $1050+tax installed for Firestone Winterforce. Didn't ask me anything about my brakes or say that I couldn't downsize from the 19's. He also said that most people don't worry about the TPS's as they were about $100 each. I'd much rather pay $950 taxes in at Costco though, I'll deal with the TPS warning for a few months.
