Garmin Screen only shows "Garmin" after vehicle stolen
Journeyman425 replied to gtuttlepi's topic in Lounge
More than likely it will need a new radio. There are software updates to the 8.4/8.4N radios which *may* cure your problem, but more than likely the radio will have to be replaced. -
I cannot understand why the hitch will not fit. Structurally and mechanically, the Crossroad is identical to all other Journeys. The rear fascia styling is different on the Crossroad, but the main styling change is between the tailpipes above where the hitch is located. My OEM Mopar hitch also contacts the bottom of the rear fascia on my 2013 Crew. It's normal. There have been no changes to the tow rating for either the 2.4 or 3.6 litre powertrains.

Parking Brake Light Comes On Randomly
Journeyman425 replied to Chad Cole's topic in Brake, Chassis & Suspension
Only if you overfill it. There is enough room in the reservoir above the full line to allow the calipers to be collapsed in a normal brake job. Agreed that the brakes should definitely be checked, but like JK says, adding fluid to test the theory will be OK until they can be properly inspected. -
The actual new car prep itself is about an hour in the shop. Navigation maps are pre-loaded and do not require any dealer configuration. You will customize it with favorite routes and your home address once you take delivery. Sirius XM Satellite Radio is free for the first year and is activated by the dealership. They may offer to pair your phone for you at delivery, and that is a very simple process with the Journey. How long it takes to deliver the car to you once it arrives at your dealership will depend upon their schedule and if any accessories are being installed (i.e. splash guards, side steps, etc. ) They'll want to deliver it to you as quickly as possible (most dealerships want the car delivered before anything can happen which might jeopardize the actual sale) especially if it is a factory order, like yours. You're right about navigation back in '04 and '05. The PT Cruiser was built in Toluca but did not offer navigation. In 2004, the 300M was available with it but they were produced in Brampton, Ontario. It was available on the Pacifica as well which was made in Windsor.

2010 Journey SXT engine stall during operation
Journeyman425 replied to tkinok74's topic in Engine & Transmission
Please tell me that it was NOT a Chrysler-brand dealership that sold you this car... -
I have a paint defect on the lower left corner of the liftgate. You only notice it in very specific light conditons in a reflection off of the top of the rear bumper cover. I would describe it as a blotch. I have chosen just to leave it alone, as repairing it involves painting the liftgate and blending into the surrounding areas. The local bodyshop did a good job matching the color when they painted the front fascia after it was hit, but to me repairing this small, hardly noticeable area is not worth the risk of creating additional problems. With the exception of this one small blotch, the rest of the paint is flawless and appears to be miles deep.

It is indeed being phased out. Car manufacturers have been looking at al kinds of ways to reduce powertrain parasitic losses, and electric steering is one of those methods. We'll probably see electric power steering on the next generation Journey.

The engine's idle RPM is set very low by design, for fuel economy, emissions and low noise. In order for the power steering pump to provide adequate assist, the RPM's are raised by the PCM depending upon the amount of steering input that the PCM detects. The Journey still uses a conventional hydraulic engine-driven pump. Certain other Chrysler vehicles are equipped with electric power steering, but the Journey is not.

A seat belt extender is available - Part #05179969AA, lists for $43.50. I've never noticed the line reflection in the windshield; now I'm gonna look for it!

Always up for a good road trip! Thanks for the kind words. The Crew (now Limited) comes with chrome roof rails, chrome door handles and chrome grill. Just enough to make it classy without being ostentatious, IMO. -
2010 Journey SXT engine stall during operation
Journeyman425 replied to tkinok74's topic in Engine & Transmission
I'm shocked that they did not replace the EGR valve. Hesitation, bucking, rough idle and intermittent stalling are classic characteristics of a faulty EGR valve. Replace the EGR valve, clear the codes and drive the car. C121C does not pertain to the crank sensor. From the shop manual: C121C-TORQUE REQUEST SIGNAL DENIED When Monitored: With the engine running. Set Condition: When the Powertrain Control Module indicates, for an extended period of time, that engine management relevant for Automatic Yaw Control/Traction Control System control can not be accomplished. The key here is "engine management relavant for Automatic Yaw Control / TCS cannot be accomplished". The code was set due to the driveability issues created by the EGR system. AYC/TCS will, when needed, cut back on throttle where needed to help the driver achieve control of the vehicle. The PCM will not modulate the throttle if it is already busy compensating for driveability issues created by another malfunction - in this case, likely your EGR valve. Replace it and your issues will likely be solved. EGR valve failures are relatively common. -
They can be programmed manually by the dealer. Sounds like you've done most everything correctly. I double-checked the part number for you and it is correct. Below is from the shop manual - did you let the car sit the required minimum of 20 minutes to initiate the learn sequence? Each sensor’s (transmitter) broadcast is uniquely coded so that the module can monitor the state of each of the sensors on the four rotating road wheels. The module can automatically learn and store the sensor’s ID while driving (within 10 minutes continuously above 15 m.p.h. (24 Km/h)) after a new sensor has been installed. The vehicle must be stationary for more then 20 minutes in order to initiate the learning sequence.

car unlocking itself
Journeyman425 replied to 2late4u's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Key Fobs, Locks & Remote Start
I checked on my end for any STAR cases or service bulletins - none at this time. There should be some stored diagnostic information in the door module or body control module if there was a malfunction. All the dealer would have to do would be to plug into the car and scan it to see if anything was there, and then diagnose the issue according to the fault code(s), if any. If no codes were present then the issue may have to become more frequent before it can be accurately diagnosed. I had a similar problem, but opposite - my car kept trying to lock itself repeatedly after we got out of it. I found the driver's side power door lock button physically stuck down and repeatedly cycling the door locks every 10 seconds or so. I freed up the switch and cleaned it in case something like a grain of sand or something sticky were holding it down. No problem since. If the problem occurs again for you, check both driver and passenger side door switches for the same condition. If they are free, then try to see a dealer so the car can be scanned. -

I tend to agree! -
It's true; many people don't know the car at all. I promote it constantly at my dealership and have helped sell a few as a result, but you are correct in that it is hardly promoted. I see Jeep commercials all the time but rarely a DJ spot. No one in my town has another one in Copper Pearl either (I like that, though!) And yet our friends in Canada have made them hugely popular (thank you!). I read the U.S. sales reports from Chrysler and each year they have increased, but where I do not know.
