8.4N software upgrade
Journeyman425 replied to LeChuckye's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
Any software updates to the 8.4/8.4N are done via CD's which are sent to the dealers as needed. -
Some dealers add them while in inventory and place an additional invoice next to the Monroney Label (window sticker) showing the extra charges. I should have clarified that there will be extra charges listed. Often times these extra charge items are negotiated off the price to make a sale. But that may explain why some people had cross bars attached to the rails when they took delivery. Cross rails are a US Market Mopar option on current models.

Checked your VIN, and just like every other 2014 I've checked, I cannot find a sales code for DRL. I don't understand it. When you go to your dealer on Tuesday, ask them to do a vehicle scan and see if there is another way to enable them. I would expect them to do this as a courtesy to you since you've only had the car for two weeks, yes? Please keep me posted. I've been wanting to hook up one of our 2014's in stock and see for myself, but there simply has not been any time for me to do that.

Daytime Running Lamps
Journeyman425 replied to b1pig's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
There is a sales code which corresponds to DRL in US model Journeys. Even though the option is there on the radio to toggle them on and off, they will not work unless the sales code is added to your vehicle's code database. Adding the sales code is a three minute procedure, then the car's software has to be reconfigured before the new code will be recognized by the car. It's like when you perform Windows updates to your home PC. They don't take effect until you restart your computer. A vehicle reconfiguration is just like a computer restart. It only takes a few minutes to do. Most dealers charge for it. If you have a good relationship with your selling dealer, they *may* do it for you at no charge. -
Roof rails are standard on certain US models, but the cross bars are optional. Some dealers simply add them to the car while in inventory; this would explain why some of you had them on the car at the time of purchase and some did not. They never come standard from the factory with cross bars, at least not in the US market.

Ordered 2014
Journeyman425 replied to hockey_puck's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
D1 is a code assigned to a particular vehicles' production status. "D" means that your car's order has been put into the system after passing edit (making sure what was ordered is still available and was done correctly) "D1" is a step closer - it has been placed in production sequence which means now they can estimate when it will be shipped from the factory. "KZ" status means invoiced and released from the factory. That is when we start getting psyched for delivery If you would like to provide me with the VON, I can give you updates as well. -
2013 SE Unlocking itself
Journeyman425 replied to Biggee72's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Key Fobs, Locks & Remote Start
What is your key fob's proximity to the car when it is parked in your driveway or parking space? Normally, you must have the fob within five feet of the car to unlock it with the door handle. -
There is an engine coolant temp sensor -there are two, actually, on your 3.5. I reviewed ECT diagnostics and cannot find anything to support a no-start due to ECT input.

Amusing to me, because we tow a small pop-up camper. I used to tow it with my 300M and all I could see through the rear window was the camper and nothing else. Now with the Journey, I can see clear over the top of it and behind as well which certainly instills a lot more confidence! Like yourself, we love the car more and more as the time passes and the miles accrue (now 16,000 and 10 months). Also like yours, zero problems. Driving to see my folks tomorrow and I'm looking forward to the 100-mile-each-way drive almost as much as the visit itself!

Did you go to the car wash this evening, and if so, was the leak repaired?

My feelings about keeping my Journey clean are well documented on this forum! http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/topic/4855-i-have-an-obsession-with-cleaning-this-car/

I re-checked tonight and yes, your dealer has reported the car sold and in your name. However, I do not find a sales code for your VIN in the database. I'm seeing this pattern for 2014 vehicles. There must be a change in the configuration for this year that I am missing. Please see this thread: http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/topic/5509-drl-for-my-2014-journey/#entry35424

Debra, this is fantastic news! And wow - a Citadel along side your beautiful new R/T. An enviable driveway, for sure. Your story has come full circle. Now enjoy the car as you have deserved to do all along. Armand - stay positive. Chrysler is building a good product and as long as your dealership takes the time to properly diagnose the source of your leak, it will get resolved. It is imperitave that they water test the car and find where the water is coming in. With a brand new car like yours, I can almost guarantee you that either the glass panel is not properly adjusted or the seal around it is allowing too much water past it. It's really not old enough to have a clogged drain unless there was some type of extenuating outside influence during assembly or shipment which allowed them to become restricted. Not likely, though. Please keep us posted.

I checked your VIN, rolandgregory - there is no sales code listed in your options group for me to add DRL. I'm starting to see a pattern here, though. I've checked a couple of 2014's for people on this forum. All the 2014 VINs that I have checked have no DRL sales code to add. I got curious and checked one of the 2014 VINs in my dealer's inventory. Same thing, the sales code does not exist. Googled Arrigo Dodge down in West Palm (HUGE dealership) - they still have six 2013 Journeys in stock. Checked a VIN from their inventory and sure enough - for the 2013 VIN there is an option to add DRL. Started poking around on DealerConnect (proprietary site to dealers) for technical info or changes regarding DRL. Nothing. Went on the sales section of DealerConnect and built myself a nice 2014 Journey Crossroad ( I would LOVE to have one of those!) and found that DRL is listed as part of the Popular Equipment Group. Reluctantly deleted my order I played with the configurations a little more. The system still allows me to start an order for a 2013 but won't allow me to submit it. I re-built my personal 2013 Crew. Popular Equipment Group apparently is included in the Crew model. There is a standalone option box for DRL but it cannot be selected on it's own. I assume then that's why I was able to just reconfigure mine so that the DRL's work. Now, I'm not drawing any conclusions here yet, but I'm beginnig to think that in order for a US Journey to have DRL may have to be ordered from the factory (U.S. models) with the PEG if it does not already include it, and then get them configured once they are built. Never mind. I just went back to the SXT in my inventory and checked - it has PEG and yet I can't add the sales code to the VIN. So much for that theory. OK folks, I have no idea why we can't turn them on at this point! I'm on this post about an hour now and I have to get some sleep! I think the only thing left to do is to try connecting one of our in-stock SXT's to the Wi-Tech (our diagnostic computer station) to see if I can configure the car's DRL to come on. Not sure if/when I'll have time to do that - we'll probably have to try that once one of them is sold and comes in to be prepped. Sorry folks - I'll keep you posted when I come up with a factual answer!

The package is billed as an alternative to conventional wax. It is listed as a synthetic wax that repels dirt and leaves no residue, and is safe to use on plastic trim as well. I liked it and the result was beautiful. I'm undecided as to whether or not I'll switch. I'll decide when I run out of Ardex Miami Shine, which I love. It's really just as easy to apply and hardly leaves any residue at all, plus it has carnuba in it which really brings out the best in my Copper Pearl color, I think. Thanks for the compliments! I thought all along that I would be ordering a R/T also, but we really loved the Copper Pearl color and the chrome wheels, neither of which are available on the R/T. I like the R/T interior the best. I love your color, too. Do you have any pictures up? -
Beancounter - I think you gave me an incorrect VIN. ET106705 comes up in the Chrysler system as unsold. There was a warranty claim on if for new car preparation by Hill-Kelly Dodge in Pensacola Florida. I looked on their website and it is still in their new car inventory. You may be off a digit on the VIN, perhaps?

I should re-phrase the "only" - I am grateful that the temp was that high! What I meant was that it was not a hot, sunny day but just one where I applied the wax in direct sunlight. The high clouds kind of filtered the sun's rays anyhow. Today the temps are back in the 30's and will be in the teens tonight. And another winter storm is on tap for us about mid-week with more salt, sand and general crap on the roads -
8 speakers?
Journeyman425 replied to madtown28's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
I agree that there should be more control over the frequency response. However, I like the clarity of the sound overall. The amp's power is clean. I find that if I connect my phone via cable rather than stream the music via Bluetooth, the clarity and imaging are much better. Same with playing a disc in the CD player. Sirius' sound quality is awful and this system's articulation brings out the worst in it. A really good set of 6x9 coaxial speakers in the four doors would give it killer sound with the right input source. -

One of my co-workers gave me a bottle of Turtle Wax Ice liquid to try today. I must say it is the easiest on/off wax I've ever used. You apply it with a sponge applicator and wipe off with a micorfiber towel - both of which are supplied with the wax. The car looks like a mirror. Very impressive. You can use it on plastic trim, too, and it does not leave a white residue. I also used it on the wheels and they came out great. They say you can apply it in direct sunlight. I used it in the sun, but it was only 59 degrees and there were high clouds so the sun was not all that bright. Nevertheless, it wiped off very easily with no streaks or any trace of powdery residue. -

The transmission shift lever has a switch integrated into it which sees whether the lever is in the Park position or not. If it does not see the lever in Park, the key (or FOBIK, as it is called, for Frequency Operated Button Integrated Key)will become locked in the Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) or what we would call the ignition switch in a conventional setup. It may only require a cable adjustment for repair. See below: 8N - Power Systems / Power Locks / TRANSMITTER, Integrated Key FOB/Diagnosis and Testing FOBIK TRAPPED IN WINThe Fob with Integrated Key (FOBIK) cannot be rotated to the LOCK position, allowing it to be removed from the ignition switch also referred to as the Wireless Ignition Node/WIN. The automatic transmission or transaxle is shifted mechanically through a cable from the gearshift lever mechanism to the transmission or transaxle valve body. A gated park switch is physically located on and integral to the gearshift lever mechanism and is hard wired directly to the WIN. The gated park switch is a simple plunger-like actuated open or closed contact switch that could be considered redundant to the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) except that it monitors the position selected with the gearshift lever, while the TRS monitors the position or gear of the transmission or transaxle that is actually engaged. A damaged or improperly adjusted gearshift cable could result in a different gear being engaged than that which is selected. The WIN uses the gated park switch input to control an internal key lock solenoid, which controls whether the FOBIK can be rotated to the LOCK position. When the gearshift lever is not in the PARK position, the gated park switch is a closed circuit, the key lock solenoid is energized and the FOBIK cannot be rotated to the LOCK position for removal. CONDITION POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTION CANNOT TURN FOBIK TO LOCK POSITION 1. Damaged, binding or improperly adjusted gearshift cable. 1. Inspect and replace or adjust gearshift cable, if required. 2. Damaged or binding gearshift lever mechanism. 2. Inspect and replace or adjust gearshift lever mechanism. 3. No gated park switch input to WIN. 3. Use a diagnostic scan tool with software release version 8.05 or greater to read and confirm no gated park switch input to the WIN. Refer to the appropriate CONDITION that follows. 4. Key lock solenoid (WIN) unresponsive to gated park switch input. 4. Use a diagnostic scan tool with software release version 8.05 or greater to read and confirm gated park switch input to the WIN. Refer to the appropriate CONDITION that follows. NO GATED PARK SWITCH INPUT 1. Open TRS park signal circuit. 1. Repair the open TRS park signal circuit between the gated park switch (gearshift lever mechanism) and the WIN, if required 2. Damaged or ineffective gated park switch. 2. Replace the damaged or ineffective gated park switch (gearshift lever mechanism), if required. KEY LOCK SOLENOID UNRESPONSIVE TO GATED PARK SWITCH INPUT 1. Damaged or ineffective key lock solenoid. 1. Replace the damaged or ineffective key lock solenoid (WIN), if required.
