  1. This problem has persisted for two years. I have had locking mechanisms, wiring, the alarm itself, the horn, and the computer replaced. I've had diagnostics run on it numerous times. The last time I had the problem was Feb 2010, the computer was replaced and I didn't have the problem again until two weeks ago. I honestly thought the issue had been fixed. Unfortunately, I think it may have something to do with the cold, somehow... My dealership has been very helpful and I trust that they have been doing their best to service my vehicle properly. But, since this problem has continued for so long, after so many repairs, I decided to see if Chrysler Canada could tell me anything about the issue. The most efficient fix so far was replacing the computer and that lasted about ten months, what happens when my warranty runs out? I planned on having the vehicle for longer than that. They informed me that I would have to have a diagnostic done and show no problem, then I call them back and the issue is forwarded to the Resolution Centre and someone contacts you within one business day. I took the vehicle in and of course it returned a negative test result. I contacted Chrysler Canada again and got some guff about not speaking with the Service Manager (because she wasn't there), and because I called right away, the dealership hadn't even spoken with Technical Assistance yet, the girl didn't want to forward off the issue. I was able to convince her though. A couple hours later the Service Manager called me and asked me to bring the vehicle back for a day so that she can try to recreate the issue. She owns a Journey too (a 2010) and has a problem with the passanger door lock rapidly locking and unlocking when you exit the vehicle. The diagnostic returned a negative result for her as well but she did say that it only happens when it's cold and damp out. Unfortunately, I have had this problem in the summer before, it just starts when it gets cold. Does my truck need a frost blanket? LOL I got a call back from someone at Chrysler Canada not long after that, they told me to do what the dealership suggested. They had no information for me because they are not technically trained, only the Technical Assistance department has records of known issues and they don't talk to customers, only dealerships. So the dealership will try again, and I am without my beloved Journey for another day. If they can't get a diagnosis, I will have to wait until it does it to me again (hopefully when it's convenient and I'm not at work *yeah right*) and drop everything to rush to the dealership and have her hooked up again...aside from that Chrysler Canada's response is currently, "Without a diagnosis there is no warranty repair." Grrreeeaaat!
  2. Wow! Of all the problems I've been having with my Journey, I'm sure glad my sunroof isn't leaking! For more than just the obvious reason, I'm allergic to mould! I can't believe that someone would seriously suggest replacing the roof of the vehicle! Why wouldn't they just give you a NEW Journey? I suppose the cost would be substantially different, however, I'd be very concerned about what kind of damage the water is doing to the electronics and what's growing in your headliner (or wherever else the water could reach)! Not only that, but the sunroof costs extra, so unless they are going to reimburse you the cost of the sunroof, what's the point? They are affecting the value of your vehicle by doing that. I feel really bad for you, especially when you state that you feel as though you have to be very careful what you post. If you're posting the facts, there shouldn't be anything that could come back and bite you. I mean, it's not like you're telling us the sunroof is leaking when in fact you accidently forgot to close it when you went through the car wash. I suppose things work a little differently in the States though...we don't have a "lemon law" in Canada. It's arbitration, which is PAINFUL, or you're stuck with your vehicle unless you can pawn it off on someone else.
  3. We had a shifting problem. The transmission seemed to be hunting for gears. I took it in and they reprogrammed the PCM (powertrain control module) and the shifting is much more smooth. HUGE difference. However, we still have engine shuddering, at idle. They tell me this should never happen, yet they can't seem to find out what's causing it to fix it...
  4. They probably haven't been able to fix it because they can't "hear" it. That seems to be the issue I'm having with my dealer. I tell them the specifics but since I work when they're available to do a test drive, I can't physically demonstrate with them in the vehicle. I know for a fact that they have, on at least one occasion, done nothing at all on my Journey and told me they fixed the problem. It's nice when you catch them lying to you, but frustrating as hell because while you're not paying for the work to be done, we all expect our vehicles to perform the way they should. And it should be expected that the dealership who sells you the vehicle, is able to fix the vehicle. Or am I expecting too much??
  5. My husband and I both suffer from motion sickness and almost always are afftected by it if we sit in the back. However, with the Journey's fold flat front passenger seat, the cause for the motion sickness (not being able to see where you're going) is eliminated. Plus, we can watch the DVD. It's like being in the front of the vehicle because you're not obscured by the seat. Our DVD screen rotates all the way around though, so it can be viewed from the front; you still have to turn around to see it, or reposition the Rear-View mirror.
  6. Talked to the new Dealer on Friday...she said she would get back to me. It's now Tuesday and she hasn't called me back. I guess they aren't that eager to help.
  7. You will LOVE the Journey. I think most of the issues a lot of us have been discussing here are on models that were built in 2008. Hopefully, they worked those bugs out before building yours! Welcome to the club!
  8. If your car is parked and you turn the wheel, it will make a noise, you're not really supposed to do that. It's hard on the steering and tires. The thing is, the Journey has a "well-developed" power train. And though it's a new vehicle, they took a lot of technology from the Grand Caravan as well as other vehicles. So it doesn't really make sense that the Journey has all these problems. It seems to me like it's more an issue of them rushing to get the vehicle ready and out to compete with the Ford Edge than with it being a "new vehicle",
  9. At least you have a lemon law. Front pads and rotors replace at 15,000kms, rear rotors machined. Front passenger side window motor replaced. Then repaired. Horn replaced because it would cut out when pressing it and need a few minutes to reset. (Still does this occasionally) Power steering reservoir replaced. (To repair grinding on left turns, still does it, though not as bad) PCM (Power-train control module) reprogrammed. (Transmission was "hunting" for gears, this fixed that) Unidentified shudder in engine at idle. Shudder in steering wheel at highway speed. Shudder when breaking. All these shudders are inconsistent (meaning they are not always there and happen for varying lengths of time when they are). First dealer couldn't find anything wrong after three tries, it's going to a new Dealer. Alarm module connections tightened (apparently they were loose and causing my alarm to lock me out when I tried to unlock the vehicle) Interior lights shut off like the car was off, headlights still on, wouldn't turn back on, had to turn off and back on. They couldn't find a reason for this and so it hasn't been fixed. I think our Journey's computer has a gremlin... That's just what I can remember off the top of my head. We purchased our SXT FWD Journey in September 2008. Oh and here's something funny...You know those jokes about, "Oh, must have been built on a Friday". I found out the date my vehicle was built. It was a Thursday...close enough.
  10. I can't speak for everyone, but I'll tell you why my husband and I chose the V6. We test drove the four cyclinder. It had half a tank of gas and just the two of us in it. It had no "get up and go". We do alot of travelling and have a toddler. This means we always have lots of luggage, even for a two-day trip. We need a vehicle that is able to excellerate to pass or to merge as quick as possible. The V6 isn't that bad on gas. Consider this: today's V6 or even V8 are better than 4-cylinders from 10 years ago. The technology has come a long way. Besides that, the gas isn't THAT much more expensive, and to have a vehicle that you're not constantly encouraging to speed up quicker, it's worth the extra money. We did consider the fact that it uses more fuel, which in turn increases our carbon footprint while driving. Like I said though, what is the point in having a vehicle that's always disappointing you because you can't pass anyone and it takes forever for you to get up to speed to merge onto the highway. If we were using this vehicle stricly for city driving, then the 4 would have sufficed, but we don't, so it wasn't good enough. On a side note: We have the Performance Steering and Suspension package, so it FEELS like a sports car, even if it's not.
  11. Ottawa, ON I've seen a few. Most of them are baseline though, or have roof racks. Most of them don't have the rims we've got. I've seen one R/T. The colours I've seen are black, silver, grey, and Inferno Red (ROCKS!!). Yeah, ours is Inferno Red. :D
  12. Ok so the shudder is getting worse. It's much rougher on idle now and there is no rhythm to it. I feel it while driving too. The weird thing is that it's not constant, so I don't think it's the alignment. I called the Service Manager, he said that three people test drove the vehicle and didn't notice anything unusual. So I asked again if the engine shuddering at idle is normal, because if so tell me and I'll stop bugging you. He said it's not. He suggested that I have a different driving style that's causing me to feel shuddering when driving. I reminded him that it happens when the vehicle is sitting idle. He told me that they can't fix something if they don't know what they're fixing. That's fair enough. However, they've had the vehicle twice for the same issue and it only started after they replaced the front pads and rotors, and the steering reservoir. They are supposed to be experts with these vehicles and since they can't even find my locking wheels nut in the "very secret" compartment under the front passenger seat, I have no confidence in their ability. This is rediculous! I'm taking it to a new dealership.
  13. I got the performance package that comes with 19" chrome rims, so my tires are a little larger. I know for a fact that the spare is considerably smaller. I think it may be smaller than just the rims, no rubber. We had a flat and put the spare on. I felt like I was going to tip over while I was driving (obvisouly I wouldn't) it was so bizzarre!
  14. You consider snow tires a modification? Or is that just the hope you have to convince her of letting you do more? jk... Nice PT...might be the only one I would consider driving...
  15. We have the 19" Chrome Wheels. We didn't have this shuddering problem before they replaced parts in the engine and the wheels. The engine seems to have a much rougher idle now that they have reprogrammed the PCM. I'm going to give it a couple of days to test it out before talking to the Dealer again. The shudder in the steering wheel has happened both during coasting and during breaking (straight line). I was told by the parts girl when she read my service invoice that rust was causing the shudder in the steering wheel; so they cleaned the rotors. In actuality, there was a "minor" warp on one of the rotors which they machined to repair. I still don't understand how the rear rotor would cause the steering wheel to shudder while coasting. My salesman told me it sounded more like a tie-rod issue. He's changed dealerships and recommended I bring my vehicle to the dearlership he transferred to. Apparently my current Dealer has been "known" to extend repair issues to rake in the cash from Chrysler for warranty work. He was also very skeptical about the repairs they said they did. I'm still not happy, as I said though, I'm going to give it a couple of days to see how the engine performs with their "repair". I will definately keep you updated. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. The Journey is such a great vehicle, I just want it to perform the way it should.
