Switchbacks... Anyone Got Them
Lobitz68 replied to Lobitz68's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
I know that the last "generation" of the V3 had issues and that they were reworked... I'm thinking the ones in the video are the older ones. I have baked several lights to either paint them or do retrofits. I am very comfortable with the process and prefer to do it myself. It is already expensive, no reason to pay someone that much money to do it for me. It was definitely a little daunting the first time and to say I didn't have doubts would be a lie, but it really isn't that difficult. Besides the permaseal issue I always buy another set of lights because I can take my time and do it right... Not quite as much as paying someone to do it, but a little extra cost is involved. It also allows me to put everything back to stock relatively easy if need be. -
Yet another HID post...

So you're running a 55w ballast on one side and a 35w ballast on the other? Is there a noticeable difference in output from the drivers seat? -
Help with uconnect please

I can't see whatever your pic is (I'm at work), but if you go to the UConnect website you can see if the Galaxy is on the list of compatible devices... Which stereo do you have? -
Enjoy yourself and your time with your family. I could use a little unplugging myself...

I took a look at the pics in the gallery and it looks exactly like my old Ram wheels. My best suggestion would be to tape of the chrome portion of the wheel and sand down the corrosion and other defects. At that point you could either clear coat the lip or even PlastiDip it black (to blend in with the tire) or aluminum (to blend in with the rest of the wheel). That should stop the corrosion and clean it up so it isn't so obvious.

That's how all of the Chrysler rims I've ever seen are... My Ram had this very badly in the same spot, around the edge. On the Ram the lip was not actually part of the chrome clad cover, so just the lip was doing it. Never tried to have them fix it as I bought it used with no warranty.

Chrysler uses "permaseal" and I will definitely be buying a second set of lights (from TYC, I assume that is the brand you were referring to?). I have experience with other HID kits and the differences between the cheap kits and the TRS or OEM brand bulbs are in the details, stuff most wouldn't notice unless they knew to look for it. For example, the cheap kits all have bulbs that are not perfectly perpendicular to the base of the bulb, meaning that the bulb is "cockeyed" which affects hot spot location and focus. The cheap kits also don't have the "hot spot" of the bulb at the "correct" distance from the base. This means that focus is compromised and is part of the reason for light scatter in OEM reflector housings. Most cheap kits also use cheaper gases which results in a large variation in color and intensity of the light produced. In my opinion, going with TRS products is the best option if you don't/can't go with an OEM brand like Phillips or Osram. Thanks for sharing your experiences...

Dang it... Can't see pics from work. I guess I'll have to pull it up on the phone... -
What exactly are you looking for to be "cleaner"? Did you end up with some texture or something?

Blind Spot Sensors

Yeah, I'm pretty interested in the LockPick unit... It will have to wait a little bit with the price tag it has though, I have other things I'd like to do first. -
He lives straight north of me and it hasn't stopped raining her for more than a day or so in the last several weeks... It REALLY sucks. I have a black DJ, so its spotted like a leopard with pollen and dried rain. Drives me nuts!

Ha! I'm 6'2" and I still cut an inch or two off a standard stick (easier to stick handle for me)... I just keep the seat behind the driver down most of the time. Playing 3-4 times a week, plus the kid playing...I don't see the point in putting it up unless someone needs to sit there.

I have a 2014 3.6 AWD and it shifts very nicely... Don't think it is a characteristic of the vehicle.

Remember that the second number (sidewall height) in the tire size is relative to the first (width). In other words if you buy a wider tire with the same sidewall height value (i.e., 55 in this case), the sidewall will actually be taller than a skinnier tire with the same value. So if you keep with the same sidewall value your tire will be a larger diameter, adding miles to your vehicle and throwing off your speedo. Just a heads up in case you weren't aware of that.

Yeah, everyone I know with Audi's and VW's are leaving them for different brands... Can't speak to Porsche and BMW, but my old man works for Mercedes and they have similar issues as well...

I was planning on covering the opening on the back of the shroud with aluminum tape to stop the light from bleeding through. I also intend on painting the halogen reflector bowl black and the shrouds black, so it should blend together and make any gaps unnoticeable...

I have to put down one of the seats...you must cut them down quite a bit! Maybe I need to try again.

Honestly, I would take off the cover and cover any electrical areas with tinfoil or plastic. The biggest areas of concern would be the TIPM and the alternator. After that rinse it with water (NOT HIGH PRESSURE) and then soak everything in your cleaner of choice. It sounds more like dirt than oil and engine grime, so you probably don't need a hard core degreaser, but there are plenty of products to choose from. Scrub everything with a soft bristle brush, rinse again and blow off the engine with compressed air (if you don't have compressed air, lightly drying everything with a towel would be just fine). Clean and re install the cover and you're done.

Map light LED install (with pics)
Lobitz68 replied to SeoulJourney's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
I find it odd too, but there must be seem logical explanation (no idea what it is though, ha!)... I don't think it was out of a need to be cheap. -

Hmmm... I don't find my lights to be too dim... It is definitely a soft light, but it illuminates the vehicle plenty for my needs. I actually prefer the softer light as it is less distracting when driving at night with them on (I assume that was the point of the soft light). I'm not sure about the 2012, but the ones in my 2014 also seem to have a projector-like lens on them which seems to help focus them in a smaller area rather than scattering light everywhere. -
I have one planned and have everything I need except the new housings... I'm planning on getting it going early this summer... I have the MH1 kit from The RetroFit Source.
