Blind Spot Sensors
Lobitz68 replied to chimo79's topic in Audio, Infotainment Navigation, MyGig, UConnect, etc.
By "Blind Spot Sensors" I'm thinking he means on the sides of the vehicle, for lane changes... -
I was going to say something about that... Good idea. hockey_puck seems like a laid back guy though, so I doubt he is upset about it.

I'm not a huge fan of chrome, but done tastefully it can really make a vehicle pop.

I haven't done my first oil change yet, but I always use a full synthetic. If you change the oil yourself, the extra cost is less (than if you had someone else change it)... Plus, with ~8,000k mile oil changes I can certainly live with the extra cost and prefer the extra protection. A power lift gate would be great. It goes up very easy, but getting it shut is a little more work... I am far from retirement age though, so I am in a bit different situation than your wife. It would definitely be nice though. The factory stereo will never compare to even the cheapest stereo upgrades... If you want a better listening experience you should definitely upgrade the speakers. Not sure what you mean about the rear wiper... It can only be so long because of the height of the window, but mine cleans off most of the back window. I can't imagine the wiper changed from 2013 to 2014...

I've been thinking about trying wine (wife loves it and it ends up being so cheap), but haven't made the dive yet... Go Wild!

I haven't had the cylinder head on my DJ replaced, but having it done wouldn't make me want to sell the vehicle. It's a very straight forward job that any tech worth a damn can do pretty easily. Will probably actually run a little better if your used to the fried one. I wouldn't worry about it, get it done and enjoy your vehicle.

Have you looked at the scrap yard? May be a DJ or two in one near you... Could pull the hitch off of one of them.

DTSGUY did it, so I'm going to say yes. Your grille should have a bunch of push pin fasteners across the top that can be removed and then you pull it forward across the bottom. It will take some muscle and finesse, but it will eventually pop out. Put the new one in its place and you're done. Probably a 20 minute job if you take your time. Good luck!

Haha! That's great... Looking good hockey_puck! Any plans or do you have EXACTLY what you want?

Switchbacks... Anyone Got Them
Lobitz68 replied to Lobitz68's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
Wow... Checked out the VLED Triton systems and they are IMPRESSIVE. They are also crazy expensive, but the engineering behind them is outstanding. I'm thinking that after seeing those I can't possibly buy something different. I think that they will have to wait until after the retrofit though. At $145 for the switchbacks and $110 for the rears, the price adds up quick. Thanks for pointing those out. For anyone that is interested, check these out. Resistors are built in, you can adjust how deep the bulb sits in the housing to better focus the light in the reflector, they have a 50% power option so they don't drown out your headlights when they are on, they are bright (600lm), can be used with DRLs and the construction/connections are top notch. Great product here for sure. -
This site helps a lot with these types of questions... http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-calculator/ It would be helpful to know what he has currently, but I'll just use my tires as a reference as I assume the all have the same rolling diameter regardless of wheel/tire combo from the factory. My stockers are 225/65-17... Using that calculator it looks like the tires on the wheels are too big. You're looking at a ~4" difference in diameter and the speedo will be off by almost 8 mph at 60 mph (remember that the second number relates directly to the first, so a 225/65-17 and a 255/65-17 will have very different sidewall measurements even though they are both 65). Since you are buying these as a gift and can't test them on the vehicle, it is probably in your best interest to talk to a wheel and tire guy locally to really understand what fits and what doesn't. There are a lot of other factors in wheels that matter beside the width and diameter. I hope this helped to some extent.

Sounds like he's willing to be the middle man, but you're going to have to do the leg work yourself... Maybe you can get the craigslist guy to weigh one of the wheels. Then, contact a shipper and see what it will cost. Definitely a good deal though...

I've had very good luck with Yokohama tires on other vehicles. In my experience you get a lot for your money with that brand. Let us know what you decide to get and provide a review if you have the time. Tires are a dime a dozen and quality reviews are always helpful.

DTSGUY, you are a stand up guy. Just when I'm starting to wonder about people (on this site in particular) you go and make an offer like this for people you don't even know. Maybe the world isn't full of A-holes and narcissists after all... You're a class act bud.

Have you verified that it will fit? That would be my only concern. I would look at Mopar wholesalers online and see what you can find.I'd search for you, but on every wholesaler site I've been on you can't just paste a link to the search, it makes you start a new search every time. I've also heard that a place called Lee's sells some of the older Mopar parts that you can't get at the dealer anymore, that may be worth a shot. Edit: Not sure if you being in Canada makes this option more difficult, but I think most of these are US retailers...

Switchbacks... Anyone Got Them
Lobitz68 replied to Lobitz68's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
Yes, resistors are necessary. I believe there are some brands out there that have the resistors built into the base of the bulb. This would be ideal as you wouldn't need to splice into the wiring harness. Thanks for the info, I'll go check out the Tritons... -

Front Grille Emblem Change. Advise please.
Lobitz68 replied to redtomatoman's topic in Accessories, Modifications
I haven't replaced my emblem, but I did pop the grille off to black it out. It is a very straight forward to remove the grille. There are the push pins across the top, and then you just pull it straight out. The bumper will flex quite a bit on you, and it does require some patience and a little bit of faith, but it does just pop off eventually. That being said, you can pull it pretty far forward after removing the push pins across the top. I am a very big man and I was able to get my arm in behind it, so you should be able to change it out without removal if you are really against it. Before and after pics when you're done! -
Successful BIG BRAKE upgrade on 2011 Crew
Lobitz68 replied to FROGBOX's topic in Brake, Chassis & Suspension
He speaks the truth! I always use a torque wrench to do the final torquing of wheels when finishing up a rotation or brake job. It amazes me how many tire and wheel places still just cinch them down with their air tools and call it good. Ridiculous... -
Switchbacks... Anyone Got Them
Lobitz68 replied to Lobitz68's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
Yeah, they have been around for quite some time. I generally switch them in because I don't like the amber light. Doesn't sound like anyone here has them, so I guess I'm going to have hope that what I end up going with are high quality and will work properly with the canbus system.... -

Lobitz68 replied to Lobitz68's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
Do you have these, or are you just recommending them? I'm thinking about going with something with a built-in resistor so I can leave the factory wiring in tact. I have the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty and would like to keep in as in tact as possible. Thanks for the link. -
Successful BIG BRAKE upgrade on 2011 Crew
Lobitz68 replied to FROGBOX's topic in Brake, Chassis & Suspension
They warp because of excessive heat, there is nothing you can put on them to stop it from happening. You either need bigger brakes like FROGBOX did or to buy a nicer aftermarket rotor. I'm not sure if this question was directed at me, but I have the 2014 which has the HUGE brakes on it. No warping issues. As far as aftermarket, you could either get a high end rotor with better materials or you could move to something like a slotted or dimpled rotor that is able to better dissipate the heat that is building up. Your driving habits also contribute to warping, but it sounds like the older brakes are just a bit undersized to me. -
Funny you mention them... I have been using them for years with zero issues. Last week a buddy needed to do pads and rotors on all 4 corners of his 07 Maxima, so naturally I recommended Rock Auto. They ended up sending the wrong rear pads (everything else was right) and we ended up having to go up to the local parts store and grabbing some anyway. Was a real pain in the butt and delayed us pretty significantly. First time I've ever had an issue with them though, and hopefully the last...
