  1. You could have used Gloss Black Plastidip on your chrome grill and saved a lot of money and aggravation; or just painted your chrome grill black. To paint the chrome, all you have to do is roughen up the slick surface with sand paper to give the paint something to "bite" into. Then you would be in a position to send the primed grill back.
  2. Not a Uconnect hack, but beware of those tracking devices from GEICO and other insurance companies! Car hackers have struck again, this time stopping a Chevrolet Corvette in its tracks, then not letting it stop at all. The vehicle was fitted with a dongle from Metromile that plugs into a car’s OBD2 port to provide a stream of data that the company uses to charge insurance rates based on how a person drives. Such "by-the-mile" and "safe driver" plans are becoming increasingly popular across the United States, and this particular company provides the service to some Uber drivers. Wired reports that researchers at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) reverse engineered the cellular-connected device, discovered several security flaws, and developed a way to use it to control several of the 2013 Corvette’s systems by simply sending it text messages. In a video demonstrating the exploit, they operated the windshield wipers and both applied and deactivated the brakes at low speeds. Although they only attacked the one car under controlled circumstances, they claim they would’ve been able to do similar things to just about any vehicle using one of the dongles, including taking control of the steering or transmission. The researchers notified Metromile about the flaw in June before they publicized it, and the company says that it’s sent out a patch to fix it. However, the dongles, which were made by Mobile Devices of France, are used by other insurance providers and fleet management firms around the world, and the UCSD team says it has spotted thousands of still-vulnerable vehicles via the Internet. Mobile Devices has yet to comment on the hack.
  3. What are the two colors? Hard to differentiate in the picture. One looks silver
  4. It is possible that the clutch in the torque converter is no longer working properly. It should lock between 35 - 40 mph, and unlock around the same speed. If you go for new fluid, get it flushed to get all of the old fluid out of the torque converter. New fluid may free up the clutch.
  5. Is it possible that the vacuum line going to the booster is kinked, or not hooked up correctly at the other end? I have had my Crossroad for a year now with no issues whatsoever. I was originally looking at a Cherokee Trailhawk, but settled on the DJ - tons more car for $5,000 less.
  6. Nav units should be at eye level, like the Mopar minivans..
  7. No swirling marks because no swirling brushes.
  8. Does the Crossroad grill have the same PN? Mine is gloss black.
  9. Did you do the pin stripe?
  10. The guys that hyjacked the Cherokee did it through the cellular network, according to an article that I read. There were a lot of Jeeps and Rams on the list of affected cars, but not the DJ. Whew.
  11. Mike's Car Wash! I can no longer do this. A Bar Code Sticker for The Works Wash costs $44/month and I can go as much as I want. The car is always clean!
  12. There are covered bridges in northern Indiana.
  13. I have an Insignia. It either sticks to the windshield with a suction cup - too far away, comes with a pad to sit on the dash - doesn't fit the contours of the dash, or clips to the vent. I use the vent clip. It swivels 360 degrees. I have my iPhone 6 clipped to it in portrait view, when I use it for Nav. Otherwise, I just sit it in a cupholder.
  14. One more question, now that I have hyjacked this thread: what does AN stand for?
  15. I have a 8.4/RE2. Still do not know what apps you are referring to, unless it has something to do with NAV. I wish that there was a way to swap out this RE2 for an RBZ mygig, which I had in my Nitro.
  16. What "apps" are you referring to? Be aware the Uconnect only supports Apple Products up to v7.1. I have 8.3, and my phone works, but my iPod with 7.1 does not. I put all my music on an SD card and figured out how to make it work like an iPod. This is the only thing in my DJ that I absolutely hate: these new radios. I love the new big screen, but hate the radio. Why the hell did they have to remove the 30 gig HD?
  17. I like to troll, but I never seem to catch anything.
  18. The brake light switch is a one time use only. If it took more than one try to replace the switch, it is no good. Also, all wheel sensors have to function correctly or the cruise will not work.
  19. The new batteries are like this. One minute they work, next they don't. Happened to me 2x with the same vehicle. 2006 Jeep Commander which I purchased new.
  20. Welcome to the forum. There are numerous threads concerning this, on the forum. Use the search function under the audio section. You will find what you are looking for. Yes, this can be done, but it depends on how handy you are and how much you want to spend.
  21. Look at the wheel center cap and the grill. This is the new mid size Alfa SUV. Fiat will not get this. It already has the 500x and the Jeep Renegade. Since the Alfa SUV is RWD and mid size, it could the basis for the Avenger and the DJ. The compact wide chassis is Alfa DNA and we got the Cherokee, 200, and Dart. There will be an Alfa, probably the only FWD Alfa in their line. Chrysler may want a midsize also. Who knows?
  22. there has to be probably 4 bolts. When the dealer installed my rear view camera, the left third seat was out on the floor. Push the second row all the way forward. Then you can probably see the two front ones. The rear ones may be under the jack storage. I'm just guessing here!
  23. What year DJ do you have? What years does this cover? My step-daughter's Olds Intrigue has the same problem. She took all of her keys off of her key ring. The car may do this up to 16 times a trip around town. All she does is turn the ignition switch back to on. I told her to get it fixed - it will be free. She is 21 and doesn't seem to care. So, to me, no big deal! This is a huge recall for all manufacturers. Your dealer may have the parts on back order, due to demand. Go ahead and support Government Motors. You tax dollars have already bought it out. Their F-in stock is a joke, and all they produce is junk. Take Buick, for example. The Enclave and Lacross are US designs. The rest of the Buicks are Opels which would have been the next new Saturns. Slap a Buick grill on one and raise the price a couple of thousand dollars. What a joke. There is a sucker born everyday. The Encore is a Korean car made in Korea. No need to say anymore on this. Dodge now has Alfa chassis DNA to work with (Dart). The Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli already use 300/Charger chassis (Mercedes E Class) parts and when Mercedes still owned Chrysler, the latest Grand Cherokee and M Series were developed at the same time. So, the GC and M are blood brothers! Maserati is already using Ferrari engines. The Pentastar can be brought up to Ferrari standards. In a few years, Chrysler's blood will be flowing with classic European DNA, and you want to switch to GM? Go for it, fool. GM closed down Holden, so no more SS. Cadillac sales are down. Chrysler sales are up for the 64th (if I remember correctly) straight month. What does that tell you? Dodge can sell a DJ in Europe, but GM can't seem to sell Chevys there. Again, what does that tell you? There are so many uninformed, unread people in this country. Very sad.
