  1. The Nitro was like this too. This process recalibrates Electronic Throttle Control (ETC)
  2. I had a similar type of system (all Kicker) in my Nitro, but there is really no room in my 3 row DJ to do something. Having a big box sub on one of the third row seats would not work for me. The nitro had a flippable cargo floor, and there was room enough under this for the 2 Kicker amps. I have to say, in all aspects, what I have now actually sounds better than my Nitro which was a lot more $. I guess nothing is never enough! My dealer had the left rear panel off and had taken out my left side third row seat in order to install my back up camera. I believe that the factory sub is behind this panel, but there didn't seem to be a whole lot of room. I know what you are saying when like to pound it hard when, for me, a particular song comes on. I still want to hear what the factory upgrade system sounds like. Maybe my dealer will let me try one, if there is a DJ in stock with it installed.
  3. While I was wandering around Best Buy yesterday, while my Alpine Tweeters were being installed, I came across this. It is referred to as a "Brick" amp because of its' shape. Alpine calls it a Head Unit Power Pack.It is a 4 channel, 45w RMS/channel. It's power is 15a, just like my Kicker sub; so there is no need to run any wires to the battery. I had no intentions of doing an amp; when I saw this @ $128.99 I figured why not. Now, I am truly finished with the sound in my DJ. Whew. As I have posted before, the old MyGigs were rated @ 66w, or 16.5w/channel. I have the non-nav 8" screen radio, The radio HU actually looks like a MyGig without the screen - just the CD and SD slots. Adding this amp - speaker level inputs only - will give me a total of 61.5w/channel (right?). All of the Alpine speakers that I have purchased are 4 ohm, 150w RMS, 200w Max. So, I am way under. Right now, I can run the volume @ 20, and it is on the verge of being too loud; but, it does sound good! I can turn it up all the way with no clipping or distortion. The underseat Kicker sub is awesome for its' size; with the remote gain, I can not go past 1/2 or it hurts my ears. Awesome for what it is. And, the best part is that all of it fits in my 3-row DJ! I still have never heard the optional sound system in a DJ. I'd like to compare sometime.
  4. There are too many threads on this subject, so here I go again! I switched all my door speakers to 2-way Alpines, because they provided the most bass. I just added Alpine tweeters with inline crossovers to my dash. All are 4 ohm, 150w RMS, 200w max. I added an 8" Kicker underseat sub mounted in a ported enclosure with a 150w amp. The amp runs on 15a so it is tied into the power line to the radio. I just found an Alpine amp, called a Brick amp because it is shaped like a brick and will fit behind the radio. I have threads on all of this; just joining in on the conversation.
  5. The tech told me that there is absolutely NO room under the defroster panel (it is a separate piece from the rest of the top of the dash) for what was already there (factory speaker) on the driver's side and slightly more space on the passenger side. The Alpine tweeters are constructed like little cylinders. The only part above his bracket is what you see on the carton top. Sounding better with every song I hear. Great investment if someone wants to upgrade their dash speakers. Even he was surprised with the difference in the overall sound. If anyone is interested, these tweeters come two different ways. The only difference between the two are the crossovers. One is inline, the one I purchased, because I was concerned about space and what was under the dash. The other one has a crossover that is a small box with 6 gain positions. The tech told me that these would not fit; I got lucky!
  6. It took me forever to find out the MyGig specs on my RBZ in my Nitro. Its been so long, I can't remember where; just what!
  7. I can barely get my index fingernail in between the side of the tire and the bottom of the piece that holds the spring for the front struts. I believe I am maxed out width-wise, but might be able to go a little higher. But these are 80,000 mile tires. I bought the DJ at the end of June and just rolled over 5,000; I will not be needing tires for a while! LOL
  8. Welcome to the forum. Torque converter locking/unlocking when it is not supposed to? I think that 4 cylinder has a four speed transmission. Find the model number, and then google it. Everyone on every forum who has ever complained about this transmission will pop up. I have googled problems before and have been lead to posts that I made on other forums!
  9. I found one from Kahtec Technologies Int. There is a Charger on the website, so I'm guessing it will work. I bought the next one up from the base: It will blink 6 times in 2.2 seconds. If I hit the brakes again within 8 seconds (bumper to bumper traffic), it will not blink. $30.44 to ship it from Texas. You put in your zip code and it figures the shipping cost. I'll let you know if it works/doesn't work. Website stated that it will work on all vehicles with a third brake light, and they sell them in Europe. Time will tell.
  10. Or, wait a year or two for the 3 row Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
  11. The radio part of the 8.4 looks like a MyGig without the screen. MyGigs were rated at 66 watts; 16.5w/channel. Just a guess that this still applies. Since they removed the 30 gig hard drive (dumb move, IMHO), maybe they put in a bigger amp.
  12. Bring it back to whomever fixed it. Now, the repairs should be on them.
  13. Uconnect only support iOS up to 7.1. If you are using a higher iOS, this will cause problems. I had zero issues with my 5s, 7.1 music and phone. Then I uploaded to iOS8 never giving this a second thought. Phone worked fine, music went to hell as you explained. So, I bought an iPhone6 just for phone, and hunted high and low for an iPod with iOS7. They all come with 8 now. Found a brand new blue one on ebay with 7.1. Synced it with my iTunes Library. Music is still a mess. I'll figure it out. Finally got the SD card to work as it should. If i use the iPod for skeet shooting, I'll only have one shot. No fun in that.
  14. I think that 3 car seats in the DJ is pushing it, width-wise. But, all 3 positions are marked for a car seat. I just think it would be a tight fit because of the width of the arm rest (middle position. It is a tight fit when I have 3 kids in the middle seat, and it is hard for them to buckle. I can't imagine doing this with car seats. Grand Cherokee is slightly wider, but no third row. My brother-in-law manages to get three car seats across in his Acura MDX, but the MDX is based on the Honda mini van (wider). With the Explorer, you would have to put up with "MY Ford Touch". I have never read a good report on one. Same can be said for the Expedition/Navigator twins. So, then there is the Dodge Durango, and the Tahoe/Yukon twins. GM finally moved to the 21st century so the third row folds into the floor. All of these can be had with second row captain's chairs. I believe that you would get a better deal on a Durango. You might do better with your local dealer before you move.
  15. Installed the tweeters today. The tech was afraid to cut a hole in the dash speaker grill, so that the tweeter would be visible. He thought that the grill might shatter, and he didn't want to risk it. So, he installed them under the dash, but he rotated them towards the interior of the car, rather than up towards the windshield. WOW. The highs are really crisp now. It's like a whole new system. I found something odd today. The factory dash speakers are standard round speakers. The diameter of the frame is 3 3/8, slightly smaller than a 3.5. The speaker itself is 2 5/8. So, I find it hard to believe that no direct replacements are made for these. The tech @ Best Buy had to make his own mounting plate for the tweeters, because they were so much smaller than the factory speakers, diameter-wise. The odd ball mounting plate that came with the tweeters would not work. I took a shot of the factory speakers, for all to see before I trash them. They look like they were covered with some old blue jeans!
  16. I have come close to hitting one, but so far never (Knock on wood). A woman here, a few years back, hit one dead center. The deer went up over her hood and one of the hoofs went through her windshield, hit her in the head and killed her instantly. In your case, I am glad no one was hurt but it sucks with a new vehicle.
  17. I was following a new Dodge Caravan last night. I could tell it was new or fairly new because of the LED tail lamps. When the driver hit the brakes, the center brake light flashed a few times and then stayed on continuously. Is there a way to have the DJ do this? Is this feature part of the bulb, or some thing that is wired in on the positive side? I think it makes the driver behind more aware of the brakes being applied.
  18. As I recall, it was contoured to fit the curvature of the roof, from the windshield back and had 4 round lights on it. It fit in front of the basket roof rack, but was separate from the rack. Some of the guys on the Nitro forum cut out their black roof rails and it was a perfect fit.
  19. Do you have a black valence that goes across the bottom? Maybe that is the other piece. Just guessing.

    Howdy!

Welcome to the forum. You are in for "the ride of your life!"
  21. I wonder if it is possible for the roof light bar from the original Jeep Liberty to fit on the DJ? I did have a 2003 Liberty Renegade and as I recall, the lights were bright and came in handy, but I always got lousy gas mileage!
  22. After I posted the picture, the headlight looked strange until I realized that there was a reflection of my house on it!
  23. I purchased them from a local Tires Plus Store. Here, they are called Michel Tires Plus. I do not know if they are national or not. I told the Manager that they would fit because Dodge was showing the new Crossroad Model with this size tire. The Crossroad wheels do have a deeper dish (offset) so I'm not sure there would be issues with the other DJ 19" wheels. This size is not listed on the Tire Racks list of tires for the DJ.
