Please help, 2012 Dodge Journey
OhareFred replied to Laraven's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
Well, if it’s running it should throw a code. The code should point where to look. Yes mice, etc love to chew on wires. Glad things are looking up! I would still complain about the dealer. They never should have given you the car in limp mode..... -

I hate to keep saying this, but stop throwing parts at it. It’s costing you big $$. Get it to the dealer, get it checked, and go from there. Did the dealer let you drive it out of there in limp mode without telling you what was wrong? Get on the phone with FCA and the dealer owner/general manager and calmly explain what is going on. There is no way they should have let you leave without giving you a diagnosis of why it is in limp mode. If they did and you left anyway, that’s on you. If they just handed you the keys and showed you the door, it’s on them. I understand you have $ issues right now, so either let it sit until you can afford the dealer, look it over, or have someone you trust look for disconnected, loose, broken wires etc. Not too many other options....wish the fix was simple....? -

you do understand that you MUST disconnect the battery BEFORE touching the battery cables together, right? If you don’t the battery could explode. Personally I don’t think touching cables together does anything. Disconnect the battery for an hour and that should drain any residual power from the various systems and reset everything. -

You need to take it back to a Dodge dealer. The plastic shroud over the intake has no real function, but he should have put it back. What kind dealer just replaces “the computer” without diagnostics? Exactly what computer did they replace? There are several. When it broke down a couple miles from the dealer you should have had it taken right back there. Oh well, shoulda, woulda, coulda. First bit of advice. The first mechanic does not seem to have an accurate grasp as to what is going on. Get the engine shroud from him, say thank you for trying, and run away. Next, Tow the car back to the dealer and pay for an EXACT diagnosis of what is wrong. Get it in writing. You a either pay them or someone else, but it’s going to take some more $ to get it running. Could be as simple as a connector left disconnected by the first guy. Third, if you left the car sitting for 3years and didn’t properly store it (remove/treat fuel system, change oil, etc) you can’t blame the car. Look in the mirror and blame them. Sorry, but that’s the sad truth... I truly hope your luck turns around and things get better for you right away! -
Is the case metal or plastic? If metal, might be used as a ground. Obviously if plastic it shouldn’t matter...maybe your eBay unit is DOA.... buying a used electrical device online is a crap shoot. I never would myself. Hopefully it has a warranty.

Dead car twice in a month 2015 SXT FWD

The op was a 1 post wonder that never came back... -
As you can see all light up now. Easy fix once I figured out the bulbs required: 2 #37, 1 NEO T3 original T3 bulb is in the picture.?

I have already replaced 2 of the bulbs. There are 3 regular bulbs (tiny tiny bulbs) soldered in 1/4 twist sockets. As stated, 2 were a “37 (or 74, seems it’s the same). I did replace those 2 with a LED bulb. Used the socket that came with the LED bulbs. Trying to figure out the smaller side bulb. I think it’s a T3 NEO, which should be delivered today. Will update on the 3rd bulb size...

I'm back with another issue!
OhareFred replied to Shawn855's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
On my 09 my original battery lasted 5 years, the replacement lasted 4. The original was fine until it just up and died overnight, the replacement just got weaker, sometimes having to turn the key twice to get the car to crank. Your voltages don’t look that bad, but why chance it. If you have someplace warm to swap batteries, might be a good idea. If not, maybe a trickle charger of carry a booster with you until you can swap the batteries. ? -
UPDATE: So, there are 3 replaceable bulbs in the back of the HVAC control. 2 number 74/37 bulbs/sockets and a third very tiny one. I used these LED’s as the number 37 replacements from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S7D16CH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Used the included sockets (original bulbs are soldered in to their sockets) had to turn one 180 degrees (LED’s are +/- sensitive) but work great. Dim with the dash lights as well. Now all I have to do is figure out what size the 3rd bulb is. I’m thinking a NEO T3 but am waiting for an answer to an email to be sure. Will let you know....

AWD or FWD? Could be any number of things. CV joints, axles, wheel bearings. Stay tuned, I’m sure someone with more knowledge and better answers will chime in...- 7 replies

I’ve actually used a few of these just to try them, and I am well versed in soldering. Seem to be holding up great. Used them on a stereo wire loom. -
2012 Drivers door jamb ajar switch
OhareFred replied to TD Charlie's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
I would think if the wire was broken it would either not work at all, or be on all the time(if it’s grounded out). I suppose if there was enough movement it could randomly touch a ground. Can you move the wires slightly and see if it goes away? Wouldn’t fix it, but might help narrow it done. Ahh electrical issues in a rolling computer.....? -
Could be the heater core or the blend doors. Been discussed multiple times. Try a forum search for no heat. Many answers.
