Brand new journey-Sputtering Engine
OhareFred replied to Johnbednar's topic in Engine & Transmission
Oh man, I feel for you! That looks like ABC extinguisher powder. Not just you gas tank, but all fuel lines and injectors will need to be cleaned or replaced. Not to mention the damage to your top end. Get a police report and document this. If they ever catch the basterds you can go after them for $$ ( at least here you can). That powder is corrosive to aluminum parts and canget into everything and everywhere, as well as getting like concrete. Not funny at all. Best of luck.... -
I have an 09 i bought new, 2 miles on it from the dealer. Now i have 67k miles on it. I have replaced the following: Front brakes/rotors three times (twice in 20k miles and then about 2 weeks ago) Rear brakes (once) Tires Rear shocks Rear springs Rear control arms Battery Radiator Heater hose And two or three recalls. The brakes are a known issue. Used ceramic aftermarket pads and aftermarket rotors youll do much better then oem. Batteries last about five years (took delivery of my car in July of 08). The radiator and heater hose were somewhat surprising. You have to balance the cost of repairs verses a monthly payment for X number of years. Do what works for you .

He just recently bought it. I have an 09, live in the rust belt, and haven't rustproofed a car since the 80's. Never had an issue. Lucky i guess...

random honking doors unlocking and windows going down
OhareFred replied to roxiekj's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
Maybe your car is haunted! Fuses are not going to stop your random honking or windows opening and closing. Fuses cut power due to overload or short. I know for 09 DJ the wire loom in the drivers door was recalled. Maybe your car is included in it. Only the dealer will know..... -

Time to look into your lemon laws for your state. Why did you buy 3 batteries for a new car? Did the dealer reflash the car with updates? -
Ok, since noone could really answer my question, I dove head first into it! You do not have to remove the entire hub to replace the studs. Plenty of room on the fronts. Remove the tire, brakes, rotor and its simple. Just spin the broken stud to the front of the car and hammer it out. To put the new stud in clean the stud hole out ( I used a round wire brush). Insert the new stud. I put the rotor on with 3 lug nuts, then took a bunch of washers, placed them on the new stud with a matching nut (dont use the wheel lug nut, you'll damage it!). Tap in with a hammer until it wont spin. With a 1/2 inch drive ratchet tighten the nut on the washers. When it gets tight, check the lug nuts, snug them up again, and repeat. Look at the lug seat, when its flush on the hub you are done. Reassemble and hit the road! Remember, use a torque wrench on those lug nuts so you dont warp your rotors! Not a bad job at all....

Hey all! OK, maybe Costco didnt break it, but it broke when they were fixing my tire. 😄 In any event I have to fix it. I just replaced my front pads & rotors yesterday and used a torque wrench set to 105 ftlbs and had no issue, but stuff happens. My main question is do I HAVE to take the wheel hub off or can I just punch the old one out and push the new one in?? Oh yea, 2009 R/T FWD. Thanks in advance!

Just to clarify, we are all Journey OWNERS, not necessarly LOVERS. Lol

Got mine taken care of about a month ago. Had a bad starter issue and while it was there they did the recall. I had also called the dealer and was told no parts, but what my dealer told me was they are replacing on cars having startuping issues first, then will get the rest when parts are more plentyful. Never had any issue with the old fobs. Dont hang ten tons of keys with you fob, youll be fine.

If your airbag light is on, you have no airbags. There are airbags for the rear seats in the back of the front seats. This needs to go to the dealer or someone VERY FAMILIAR with airbag systems.

Battery died, now radio display is blue
OhareFred replied to Bryan Dixon's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
Try disconnecting the negative cable for 30 mins, maybe it will reset... -
Bad brake rotors, loose tire, out of balance tires, worn ball joints, bad tie rod. If you can be a little more specific we can too! When do you have the problem? All the time, when braking, highway speeds, etc....

Recall R03 New Ignition Switch & Key FOB's...
OhareFred replied to brwengel's topic in Recalls & Technical Service Bulletins
What is the point of putting out a recall they can't fix? They never had parts for the last recall on the ignition switch. My car is working fine, I want it documented I tried to get it fixed and the Chrysler could not supply parts...again. It's not like I going to sue them or anything, but if something happens I don't want to be holding the bag for repairs. -
Are you sure your radio has the u connect, hands free modual? I know when I bought my 09 all the phone and hands free buttons were there, but not hands free modual to make them work. Even the dealer was surprised. They ordered and installed the modual for free and now it works great. I have an iPhone 5 running 8.2 and it works great....hope this helps

Called the dealer today. Still no parts. If I get the same bs in a few more weeks I'll file a complaint with the NHTSA. My dealer is good, Chrysler is the problem... -
Inline Modified Cutout Valve for Exhaust Silencer
OhareFred replied to bigunclejethro's topic in Accessories, Modifications
Won't the exhaust cutout valve bypass your muffler system? That won't make it quiet, that's for sure. Maybe I misunderstood your question. Are you going to put the resonators back on and use the valve when you don't care about the noise? I'm a little unclear on what you will be doing... -
That's what I did. Out of town so don't have access to the receipt, sorry!

The pump and float are together in the tank. As far as I know it has to be dropped to get to ie.

According to my manual, you can drive 500 miles after the message comes on. On my 09 it comes on at 2,500 miles like clockwork. I just check the level and reset the message. I use Mobil 1 and change every 5,000 miles. Never an issue.

I got the notice last week. Guess what, dealer has no parts. Still haven't done the first recall because.....no parts! What a pile of crap.
