There is a hands free mod. that can be added to your 4.3 It uses a separate mic (I put mine near the overhead sun-glass holder on the drivers side) so you don't have to change the mirror. whole setup was under $150 in 09. works with my IPhone and with my Samsung Galixy phones. I wouldn't add GPS get a Garmin with lifetime map updates. you spend about $150-$180 for map updates on a fixed system...

Turn Signal Flasher Relay
OhareFred replied to jwin1845's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
of buy leds bulbs with the resisters built in. check out superbright LEDs -
I assume you are talking about the "auto-shift" tranny. While I don't use it much, I do use second gear to start in the snow at times, and will use it to downshift when exiting the highway at times (saves on the crappy brake system ). Accorcing to my owners manual, the computer will not allow you to shift into a gear that will damage the car. Of course you can shift from 3 to 1, but the car won't react until rpms are safe, so I am told....

hid lights installed pic
OhareFred replied to smarshall2013's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
Unless you are going to have your high beams on for a decent amount of time, installing HIDs in the high beams may not be such a good idea. The constant on-off short cycles will 1-shorten the life of the hid bulb and 2-the bulbs take a few seconds to come up to full brightness. If its cold, you may lose any advantage of having HID because they take so long to brighten up. You might need those few seconds. You might be better served with something else. Just something to think about. -
Look at the main power box (on my 09 its on the drivers side next to the jump start connections). That's where the relays are. It might be one of them. Don't worry about asking a question, that's why the site is here.

I have to agree with Mcgusto82. If it only happens in extreme cold it may be a operating range, although once the car warms up it should work. I also have a 09 R/T with a REN unit and never had a problem. I can also say it hasn't been -32, either C or F, in Chicago, although today it was a high of -16F. Sorry, I was too chicken to go out. I am working tomorrow and the expected temp when I leave is supposed to be around -16 again. If I have any issues I'll let you know. Good Luck!

I usually don't comment on things like this but unless you NEVER use the rear seats, you could be placing someone in extreme danger in the event of an accident. Head rests are not there to rest your head, but to act as a safety device to prevent or minimize head and neck trauma in the event of an accident. It doesn't take much to cause major neck trauma which could result in paralysis! Even small children or adults will benefit from them. Is it more important to see where you have been or to protect those in the seats? Ok, I'm off my high horse and done with the lecture! Thank you for reading, take it for what you will! Be Safe.

OhareFred replied to adamsle's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
what year is your car?? you list a 2008 I know my 09 there is a way to do it, but I'll have to look iot up. In 09 it was not part of the touch screen,if I recall it had to do with the remote. Ill look it up later and see if it helps if no one else answers! -
Proper Brake Bleeding Order? 2012 Journey
OhareFred replied to bcristea's topic in Brake, Chassis & Suspension
Unless things have changed, always start at the furthest wheel from the master cylinder. So you should go passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front. Now I learned how to bleed brakes waaaayyyy back in the 70's, but as far as I know it's still the same. VERY IMPORTANT NEVER LET THE FLUID LEVEL IN THE MASTER GET BELOW THE LOW MARK!!! If it does you could introduce air into the system. If that happens you may need to go to the dealer and have them bled due to the anti-lock pump system. Good luck!! -
the way its done so fast is all the lugs are removed with a battery powered drill/impact gun, then the rear is jacked up, both tires pulled off, then dropped on the rotors. same for the front. takes all of about 2-3 mins. Still sucks

Successful BIG BRAKE upgrade on 2011 Crew

Any idea if this would work on an 09 R/T with 19's?? -
I have an 09 with 52000 miles on it, never had it aligned, and its straight as an arrow. Got a little over 42000 miles out of the factory tires and replaced them more for better traction then being worn out. Although they were getting worn out, the wear was even. Time for the car to be replaced. Don't drive it, go Lemon Law. My opinion only of course..... Good luck!

And I thought Chicago was bad!!!! :fear:
-
Could be a loose tire. I know you had the tires balanced, but I had mine done and they didn't use the correct adapter on the machine. The shudder was so bad I could not go over 30 mph. They rebalanced them using the correct adapter and then it was fine. Also, even a brand new tire could be defective. I agree that if it started with these tire, thats where the problem most likely is. Best of luck!

Is this happening while driving? Have the clock spring checked, it may be shorting.

Buying: AWD -vs-FWD
OhareFred replied to soontobejourneyowner's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
I live in Chicago, and have the FWD version. After getting rid of the crap Kumo tires and putting on Michelins, I haven't had any real difficulty getting around. Of course, we get our fair share of snow around here, but not like up North! -
lardawg. Sena posted this link: https://techauthorityonlinedemo.extra.chrysler.com/service/repair/wiring/view/classic.htm under another topic (electrical wiring) just this week. Click on it, put in your information, and look at what you need. You do need to be pretty good at reading schematics but you might be able to see where you can cut and tap. Let us know.

Might be a head gasket. Ever notice alot of water dripping from the exhaust? That should be covered by the powertrain warranty.

I have an 09 that had the kumhos, which I got rid of early. Terrible grip in rain or snow, rapid wear (but most new car tires are soft anyway), and difficult to balance. I put Michillan tires on now, have great grip in snow & rain, but balance was also an issue, not because of the tires but the 19 inch rims! My CostCo dealer knew that you need a special adapter (kinda looks like 4 fingers if you will) that the tire dealer did not know about. If you just mount the rim onto the machine, it will balance the tire, but wrong. If you use the adapter, bingo, perfect balance. Out of balance may have nothing to do with the tires at all, it could be the guy doing the balancing! just some food for thought.....

I have an 09 R/T with the REN unit. I looked in to swapping it out for one with nav and didn't do it for the following reasons: 1- B I G $$$$$$$$ The REN unit was almost $900 US at the time, then I would need an antenna, of course the cables were extra. Then, if I wanted to update the maps, the disk was around $200, AN UPDATE! I stuck with my Garmin Nuvi with free traffic and lifetime updates. I also like the look of in dash, but not at those prices. 2-I had my dealer install Hands-free/bluetooth to my REN UConnect radio. It consisted of a module and a Mic. I had them do it as part of the car deal so I don't know what it cost, but it only took about an hour. The REN radio looks the same as the RER but does not have NAV. It has a hard drive for storing music, dvd player, Sat radio, cd player, and of course AM/FM. It has all the handsfree buttons on the radio. Hope this helps.
