Upgraded to HID headlamps
OhareFred replied to OhareFred's topic in Glass, Lighting, Mirrors, Sun Roofs & Wipers
Why would that be?? I live in a very nice neighborhood. If you read my second post, you will see I lowered the aim on the bulbs. I have not had one person flash their high beams at me. If you look at you halogen low beams, you will see they are 55 watts. I agree 35 watt bulbs were more then bright enough, but I couldn't get a kit that work with the DJ with 35 watt bulbs. -

No, no issues at all. The halogen bulbs are also 55 watts, so I would not expect any. Most HID bulbs are 35 watt, giving more light from less watts, with less heat of course. 55watt HID should not be any hotter then 55 watt halogen. They might even be a bit cooler. -
Upgraded to HID headlamps

OK, I am not the best with computers. I cannot get the pics to post even though they are JPEG. Someone tried to help me once before, but I still couldn't get it. Anyway, on the 09 Journey, the low beams take a 9006 bulb. The high and low beams are two separate bulbs in different sections of the headlamp housing. If you have DRL's, I think the DRL's use the high beams at a lower wattage/voltage. The kit I ordered was for the 9006 bulbs in the 6,000K range. The color is mostly white with just the slightest hint of blue. They are 55 watt bulbs, and because I didn't want to blind anyone, I went with the 6,000 as opposed to 4300K. Remember, the lower the K, the more lumens you get, so the light is brighter. Believe me, 6000K is more then bright enough. I also lowered my headlamp aim a couple of turns on both sides. I am happy to say I have not had any type of problem with this kit. Again, if you checkout the site you can see their options. What really impressed me was being able to call and talk to someone direct! Happy to help! :D -
Hello all! Just wanted to put this out there. If you are thinking of upgrading your headlamps to HID, you really have to watch what kit you get. I went through three different manufactures looking for a conversion kit that worked. I have an 09 R/T and let me tell you about my problems. The first kit I purchased (via the internet) claimed everything was included. Not so. After I installed the unit (2 ballasts, 2 bulbs) the system didn't work correctly. One lamp would light, or both would light and then flicker. Very annoying. I discovered that I needed a relay harness. I ordered that, installed it. It solved the problem of both lights not turning on, but not the flickering. Also, a new problem showed up. The relay buzzed VERY LOUDLY. I was then told I needed "cancelers". So I bought them, installed them, and still had problems! Now I'm into this to the tune of about $130 US. So I send it all back, get a refund, and try another company. Pretty much the same problems, only this time the relay not only buzzed but kept getting stuck in the "ON" position. This setup also was about $130. Send it all back. Now I try a third company (thinking this had better work or forget it) because I'm out about $15 in shipping costs. I ordered from XenonHIDconversionKit.com after speaking to them on the phone. They assured me their kit, with "canbus" ballasts, will work fine. They weren't kidding. Of all the kits, theirs was really plug and play, uses the factory headlamp connectors (their unit acutally draws less then a 55 watt halogen bulb, so no issues there) no relay harness. Took about 15 mins to install and haven't had an issue. Paid $110 US with shipping. I have nothing to do with this company, don't know anyone from this company, and am getting nothing for free from this company. I just put their name out because I am really pleased with their product and hope I can help someone else avoid the problems I had. Look them up and decide for yourself. :D

I seem to recall there was a recall for power steering pumps on 09's. Might want to check that out.

My 09 R/T doesn't use any oil at all. I change it every 6,000 miles with Mobil 1 syn. maybe I'm just lucky. I think once I added less then 1/2 a quart, just to get it right to the top of the safe mark. Make sure your fully filling it when the oil is changed, it uses more then 5 quarts!

Hey there. I have an 09 as well. I have the REN radio, but had the same problem. All my dealer had to do was install the UCONNECT module, which they got right from Dodge. It just plugs right in and they install a mic. They put mine on the drivers side A pillar, but I moved it to the drivers side of the overhead counsel (where the dome lights and sun glass holder are). Plenty of cable for that. You can also get the IPOD cable from Dodge, but I've seen them on EBay as well. There was a post in the past with the part number for the cable, but I couldn't find it. Good luck!

my 09 can be off by 1 mph to the good. In other words, it may show 17.6 mpg when actual it's 16.5, but then other times its dead on. Hope you like your 10

Hey all, I came across this, quite by accident, while installing HID lights on my 09 Journey. On the top, inner side of the headlamp housing I saw the words "up" and "down" with an arrow close to a Phillips head screw. As it turns out, that is how you adjust the up/down aim of the headlamp! I didn't see where the left/right adjusting screw was, but I'm sure it's similar. I tried to attached 2 photos of the passenger side housing, but they are too large (950 k). If someone tells me how to upload them, or pm me you email, I'll send them to you.Hope this helps someone out! :D

Is this the same system used on 09's? My oil change reminder goes on EXACTLY at 2,500 miles every time. I've got a 09 R/T WITHOUT the enhanced cluster display.
-
I have been using Mobil 1 full syn since my first oil change. I just keep track of my mileage and change every 6000 miles. My 09 manual states not to exceed 6500 miles between changes. When the change oil indicator lights, I just reset it. I have always used Mobil1 and have NEVER had an engine failure. Maybe I've just been lucky, I don't know. Anyway, the price breaks even for me because I double the mileage between changes. I pay about $60 US for a Mobil 1 syn. oil change.

Looking at a 2009 SXT AWD
OhareFred replied to AcadianJourney's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Competing Products
Well, I bought a 09 R/T front wheel drive in July of 08 and paid about 24,000 US. That came with a lifetime extended warranty (1400 US) so 21,000 seems a bit high to me BUT I also was buying from a dealer that was going to be dropped by Dodge/Chrysler (too small) so maybe thats why I got it so cheap. Pretty happy with it so far, except for brake problems (they wear out like mad) and crappy 19 inch rims and tires. Other then that I have been pretty much problem free. Have your tried looking online at used, not to buy but to compare? Maybe up North cars are pricer! Just my opinion! Good luck in you quest! -
OK, I'm finally gonna upgrade my OEM headlamps to HID. I know about the kit, relay harness and canceler, but what wattage bulb are you guys using? I have a choice of 35 or 50 watt. The OEM bulbs are 55 watt, so I was thinking the 50 watt is the way to go. What did you use???? Thanks in advance!

Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, Safe New Year to all! :D

I know what you mean. I've done front's twice and rears once with all new rotors and ceramic pads at 30,000 miles. This last time after doing the brakes, I developed a shake, at highway speeds only, when applying the brakes lightly. My first thought was rotors, but since I did the work myself and know the new rotors got a finish cut, they should have been OK. Went to the tire shop and had them balance the tires and that seemed to fix the problem! Sounds weird, I know, but maybe look at tire balancing if you know the new brakes were done right. I have an 09 R/T with the 19 inch rims.

2010 SXT melted/melting plate light socket
OhareFred replied to burgandy25's topic in Electrical, Battery & Charging
I've got an 09 R/T that had a headlamp (low beam) socket melt, but I think it was due to a loose connection in the bulb itself. I replaced the socket and bulb and have had no further rpoblems. -
Anyone have this problem?need opinions please
OhareFred replied to RebelThunder's topic in Engine & Transmission
2009 lifetime warranty only applies to original owner. -
Well here is a little update..... Upon further review, I needed new pads all the way around as well as new rotors. Looked harder at the fluid level and saw it was at the min. line. Looked at the rears (33,300 miles) and saw the pads were almost metal to metal. Checked the fronts while I had it up (21,000 miles, replaced the pads at 11,000 miles with ceramic pads the first time, but the rotors were OK). When we checked the rotors the rears were at the min spec, not sure if I could have even gotten a cut on them, and the fronts were just as bad. Since I did the work myself, the rotors and new pads, all ceramic (lifetime guarantee on both pads & rotors) ended up costing just shy of $300.00 I won't rant and rave about the brakes sucking, we know they do, but 33,000 miles on rears?? I've got 50,000 on my Chrysler Sebring Convertible and they still have plenty left. Oh well, what can you do? Maybe Dodge will devise an upgrade kit or something. Pay attention to those idiot lites, they are there for a reason!!

Was looking at my tires and at 33,000 miles they are almost due. How do you like the Michelins? Have you had them through the snow yet?
-
Thanks for the reply's. I think it must be a bad sensor. Everything is tight and making/releasing contact when its supposed to. Just wanted to pick some more brains.

Hey all! I'm driving a 09 R/T with about 33,000 miles. Would anyone have any idea why the RED " brake" lamp on the dash would turn on and off? Seems that every once in awhile, after driving for 10 mins or so, the red "brake" dash lite will turn on after I am stopped (with a nice little chime) at a light.. As soon as I start to accelerate it turns off. It may come on at the next stoplight, it might not come on for a week. The pedal is always firm, no brake noise, parking brake is off. Only comes on after I've been driving and am stopped. If I apply the parking brake, the lamp stays lite and the car won't move. Release the parking brake, the lamp goes off, the cars moves just fine. I'm kinda stumped. Anyone???

Yes, tow in 5th as 6th gear is overdrive, to the best of my knowledge. Haven't towed with mine, but when going through the mountains kept it in 5th and cruise was able to hold speed fine. In 6th I would lose speed, then drop to 5th, speed up, back to 6 and repeat. Was kinda driving me nuts
-
Usually you should not tow in overdrive even if the road is flat. I'd double check the owners manual or online with Dodge, but I'm pretty sure that's what they will tell ya. Travel safe!
