Modge
Hi All, In case anyone is dealing with the whine problem with their Journey, my problem was fixed by replacing 2 bearings in the 62TE transmission. The work was done at Mr. Transmission and was covered under the used car warranty that came with the vehicle. The work took less than 1/2 a day to complete. The mechanic told me during the test drive prior to repairs that he had seen and fixed this problem before and he suspected it was the bearings that he eventually replaced. The symptoms were: There was a whine coming from the driver side of the engine compartment that increased in frequency and amplitude with speed. The whine was loudest under acceleration, but was still present when coasting. The noise started at about 20km/hr (3rd gear?) and continued up to and including 6th gear. The noise was present during deceleration and when the vehicle was gearing down. The noise was not from a bearing in the wheels/ the power steering pump (even though the noise is similar to air in the ps system), or the alternator-it was a transmission problem. bramfrank
Interesting news . . . . . glad you didn't have to pay for it. Do you know WHICH gears they replaced? Not that I have the problem, but in case someone does it can be very useful information.
