Dash Rattle Near Windshield

So recently I've been getting a weird mystery rattle in the dash.. close to the windshield in the center. It sounds like plastic, but applying pressure to any of the dash panels doesn't make it go away while driving. When I lean closer it sounds like it's coming from INSIDE the dash area, but it's very constant. Last night I went through and removed everything from the glove box, bottom storage cubby, anything that might be causing the problem that isn't part of the car and it's still there.

Is anyone else experiencing this? My DJ is a 2017 Crossroad Plus, and it has about 18k on it now. I know this sounds like a little thing, but it is driving me NUTS!!! Thanks!

Sorry to say, but it could be literally anything. If you can duplicate it, take it to the dealer and show them.

Oh I know, I just wanted to check on here and see if anyone else has the same problem or had gotten a similar rattle fixed. Especially if it's something I can remedy myself without spending a whole day at the dealer!

I have a similar rattle.  Maybe the same rattle.  Mine originates from the passenger side at the base of the windshield.  Only occurs at highway speeds.   Changes with side or head winds.  Pressure on my dash has no effect.   I have looked at the outside mirror, rubber seal trim around the windshield, the plastic in the wheel well, the wipers, and the plastic shield along the base of the the windshield.   I have messed with and made changes to these here and there to no avail.  I have given up.  I would love to rid my DJ of this rattle, though.   Any info is welcomed.

Peace.

Thanks for that! It's not something that's worrying so I'm just going to wait until I take it in for my next oil change, but I appreciate the offer to help! I just wanted to see if there was something I could troubleshoot by myself first.

I read through a different forum that someone had the same type rattle, they actually had 2 things they had to get fixed to get rid of it. They said the debris guard by the wipers needed to have one of the rubber clips replaced and their A/C hoses weren't tied down properly underneath the dash. They also mentioned that the only way to access the hoses was through the engine bay. Maybe that could be something to look into for yours? Mine is at all speeds though and seems to come directly from the center, it's not  big deal but it definitely tugs at my OCD strings, haha

My 2013 had a rattle that was difficult to pinpoint. My wife noticed it was loudest when she put her ear on the arm rest and listened in the Storage bin. It turned out to be the heat shield under the center of the floor. I put fender washers under the retainer nuts and the problem is gone.

I registered here just so I could respond to this thread. I came here looking for the same information as the original poster. I have the exact same rattle you describe Center of Dash close up by the windshield definitely underneath the dash plastic. I have tried everything to get it to go away and nothing seems to work. Has anyone found a solution? To the original poster, did you get the dealer to fix this at all. Is it worth even showing it to them. Mine is totally repeatable as soon as I get to 75 miles an hour on the freeway it starts and does not go away until I back down to about 65 miles an hour. It is completely 100% repeatable. Do you guys suggest I take this to the dealer? Do you think they will actually do a ride along out on the freeway for me to show them? Like those of us that have this issue have said it seems like a small thing but when you're doing a multi hour drive on the freeway turning your stereo up just to block a dash rattle can be a bit frustrating

They did look at it and offer to tighten the guard along the windshield. Honestly I think it was the change in weather, when it gets cold the plastics contract and with warm weather they expand. Had the same noise for about a week or two this year when it started getting warm. My recommendation is to just give it some time, if it does go away then it is because of the shift in temperatures. If not and you are still in the warranty period let your dealer know and they can try to find the source.

*As a warning though, if they take the dash apart you do risk that causing more/other rattles so be certain before they do that*

thanks for the reply I PM'd you as well because I did not check the thread to see if you had replied. I was supposed to get email updates but apparently they're going to junk mail so I assume no one had replied. I will probably just live with it because my brother had an issue like this in his truck and after they were done he had three new rattles.  taking apart plastic that's never meant to the disrupted is always a bad thing.
