Jennifer Ballance
Hi, I was looking for some suggestions. I have a 2016 Dodge Journey. I pulled into my driveway and it shut off on it's own. Now it starts up and then dies within a few seconds. I had it towed to a shop and they said the diagnostics show it is misfiring. They said they would have to start going down a list of possible problems and it was $130 an hour. I had it towed home. My next step is to town it 30 miles to the dealership and minimum $180 to diagnose. Any ideas what it may be that I can try fixing myself? Steven Harshbarger
I'm assuming your out of warranty? Sorry to hear your having troubles, but the dealers going to be one of the best places to figure out whats going on. Hopefully it's something stupid. It could be as simple as replacing the battery. I'm sure it's not old being a 2016 but I've seen newer batteries fail and with the newer cars, a bad battery does all kinds of crazy electrical stuff. Having the battery tested before you have it towed would be a good start. With that said, I've seen batteries test fine, but were still bad or just had a bad cell. I'd still start there. After that, I'd let the dealer figure it out. OhareFred
jkeaton
2016? How many miles? I also assume you are out of warranty if the dealer is charging you labor rates? Agree with Steven. Dealer is the best place to diagnose the issue. Is the check engine light on? Is the oil level correct? Battery connections good?

lmoore1436
Is it the 4 or 6 cylinder model? If it's a problem with the cylinder then it could be as simple as a sensor shutting it down to prevent damage. Was it running differently than normal while you were driving? Any warning lights on? It also may be completely unrelated since it is starting and then shutting off. Have you tried starting it with both of your keys? It could be something wrong with your key as well. Also if it has less than 36,000 miles you should still be in warranty and Dodge will cover some of the towing cost.
