onecrazyfoo4u
Well, after almost 6 years we've decided to trade the DJ in for something bigger for our family of 3 kids. The Journey was just getting too small with the three carseats/boosters. We bought it new in 2012 and it treated us well for 130k miles. Only a couple minor recalls, lots of brake replacements, and basically just fluids and filters. Really never had any major issues. It treated us so well we decided to stick with Dodge and absolutely loved the Durango's. Ended up getting a slightly used 2017 Durango GT loaded with nearly every option. I love the new tech and entertainment centers on these things. So many dang options and gadgets to play with! Hopefully we can keep the Durango for just as long as the DJ. I've posted some items for sale that I had left over in the garage. Posted the only pic I have of the new Durango. Later DJ gang, it's been fun!!! larryl
km-04
Congrats man, been thinkin real hard about makin the same switch. I every time I go to the dealer for an oil change I look at the Durangos in stock, sit in a few, and play with the buttons. It is a sweet ride. My wife likes the Citadel, but that truck is just too nice to be draggin through the woods for hunting. Maybe if I only camped it would be an option for me, but I just can't see myself throwing a deer or hog in the back of one.

I've got the truck for that ;). The Durango feels so much more dang smooth suspension wise and the new 8-speed tranny is amazing! I was getting really tired of the DJ clunky tranny, this new one is like butter. Can't even feel when it shifts. To me, the most amazing part is still the killer gas mileage. We gained almost 1000 lbs, and added AWD, and it gets the exact same mpg as the DJ. Much better than the Traverse, Acadia, and Tahoe's that we were comparing against. lmoore1436
Very nice! I love the Durangos too, I don't have any kids though and I just bought the DJ a year ago but every time I see one I think to myself, "man thats a bad a** lookin SUV"! Once the DJ is paid off maybe I'll make the switch, all the safety aids are pretty appealing too (ACC, blind spot, emergency braking, etc). Hope you love it, and don't forget about us! I firmly believe that if I get a truck I'm gettin one to USE, not to look pretty. It's gonna get dirty and have a ding or two in the fender or quarter panel from sliding in the mud on a trail in the woods. I am NOT parking at the far end of the parking lot, sideways taking up multiple spots just so nobody parks close to it and risk gettin a door ding or scratch. Steven Harshbarger
Big Congrats on the upgrade, I'm sure it will serve you just as well if not better than the Journey. onecrazyfoo4u
N87
Congrats on the new ride. Love the Durango as well. RT especially. In my case we downsized to 2017 DJ , since we only have one "carless" kid in the household. Oh, and great report on your Journey! Hope to get over 100k on ours without major issues too. onecrazyfoo4u
Daniel Anderson
Durango has caught my eye too, however they are about 800 lb heavier then my DJ. The info screen looks smaller and the engine in my trim level is the same as there's.

Theres your problem, the 3.6 is barely adequate in the JC, it has no business being in a full size SUV If you are considering a durango, the hemi is the only acceptable engine option Daniel Anderson
yyz
Since we're replying to a 6 year old thread,I find the 3.6 is great for the Journey. if you think it's bad try the 2.4 and you'll see what gutless feels like. jkeaton
3.6 is a perfectly capable engine. Is it a hemi? No, but it does just fine. Edited Monday at 01:26 PM by jkeaton larryl
larryl
3.6 is more than fine in my 2020 Grand Cherokee especially with the 8spd tranny jkeaton
diymirage
i got the 5.7 hemi in my truch, they really should only have put the 6.4 in it the 5.7 struggled at first to keep up, a better intake, throttle body, full length headers and a custom tune made it acceptable i will say, i have the 5.7 in my wifes grocery getter ('15 pursuit charger) and there it shines

I do feel like a lot of manufacturers are putting sub par engines in vehicles now Im not looking for a vehicle to change the earth's rotation when i drop the hammer, but i do expect to be able to take an onramp, hit passing gear and speed up enough to match the flow of traffic on the highway without redlining the engine A while ago i had a rental jeep with who knows what hamster for an engine in it, and it was so gutless it was downright dangerous to drive, like taking a moped out on the freeway Edited Monday at 05:42 PM by diymirage
Daniel Anderson
All good responses. I would like the Durango for sure. Will have to wait for now, as I just bought a Journey in January 2024. Anybody disappointed with the 3.6 L in the Durango besides JKeaton Edited Monday at 11:11 PM by Daniel Anderson jkeaton

It is indeed a clear case of government overreach How much gas i burn is none of their concern, and what type of engines a car manufacturer wants to put in a vehicle is nobodies business but their own Not to mention i get penalized for it by having a vehicle in a higher weight category, and having to buy more gas, which of course means more taxes

Damning with faint praise is the interpretation….I think. But it’s my thoughts too, capable and I would even add reliable. My brothers 2017 ram has a 3.6 with 8 speed ZF transmission and over 100k miles without any issues. Can’t tow a 30’ plus airstream trailer, does everything else fine. No hemi exhaust manifold bolts breaking or MDS cylinder deactivation issues to be had.
