Odd Diagnostic Trouble Code

Recommended Posts

Vehicle Info:
2013 Dodge Journey SE
2.4L 4 Cylinder, 4 Speed

I recently purchased a BlueDriver Bluetooth Scan Tool, great unit by the way, and it shows an odd DTC that I can find no info on and keeps resetting after I clear it. It shows up under Occupant Restraint Controller, which my research shows is the SRS module, and the code is C3800. BlueDriver does not have a definition for this code and I am unable to find any info about it on the Web.

Has anyone else run into this code and, if so, have you found any info on it? All responses will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm not too sure what information you are looking for other than it's not working properly... Are you trying to find out where it is or why the fault would come up? Regardless of what the fault is I think the safest thing to do is get it repaired/replaced given how important that is. It basically controls whether your airbags deploy or not. I'd schedule an appointment and take it in as soon as possible. I know there is an FCA recall for this, but it doesn't list the Journey on the recall notice, but you may be having the same issue they describe since I'm sure they use the same parts. https://chrysler.oemdtc.com/174/s61-occupant-restraint-control-ocr-module-2010-2014-chrysler-dodge-jeep

The MIL is not on and there is no apparent problem with the engine. I'm just trying to figure out what is setting the code. I have found a site that says it refers to camshaft timing. The engine runs smoothly and doesn't seem to have any problems. I recently changed the spark plugs and air filter. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the answers, guys.

I checked that recall notice and my vehicle is not on the list.

Thanks anyway.

I know it wasn't on the list... but I figured they use the same crash sensors on most of their cars so you might be having a similar wiring problem. Since the error code is one that is specific to only chrysler you may have to take it into the dealership for a proper diagnosis.

Good point. I have to bring it in for a steering column harness recall so I'll question them about the code when I do.

That stuff about the cam shaft timing makes no sense at all. That would be a P (Powertrain) code, not a C (Chassis) code, and like I said before the MIL is not on and the engine seems to be running just fine.
