Silk
Okay we had a previous post where we had stated that our 2011 Dodge Journey was not starting that when we would hit the start button the starter would spin but the engine would not crank to life we have looked at the belt and when the starter is spinning the serpentine belt is not moving I have been told that it should move when you try and crank the car is this that anyway connected to an issue with the torque converter or is there something else we should be looking at please. As we stated before the car has a new battery and a new starter and both have been tested and are good.
OhareFred
Nothing to do with your torque converter or your battery. Most likely the problem is your starter. The gear is not engaging your flywheel. Could be installed with too many shims or is defective. The other problem could be your flywheel gearing is stripped. Start with the starter.....yes, a new starter could be bad... Edited April 29, 2018 by OhareFred
Silk
If it's not the torque converter that would be awesome but another thing is that the flexplate is spinning when he tries to start the car he actually got down and looked and you can actually see the flex plate spinning when he tries to start it but none of the serpentine belts are moving. This is actually our third starter that we put on because the other ones were defective but we got this one tested at O'Reilly's before we even put it on the car after going through three others is it still possible that the starter is bad
2late4u
so you have tried 2 starters from O'Reilly's and they were defective and you tried a 3rd one, i would have got my money back went to a different place or back to the dodge parts dept. i think you need to take it to a shop so it can be looked at and fixed. Silk
Actually we bought the starters from AutoZone and the first two snapped the housing actually broke on them then the third one was defective so we took it back and exchanged it because they would not give us our money back they told us that all they would only give us store credit so that's why after we exchanged it for this one we went to O'Reilly's and had them test it. O'Reilly's tested it two different ways and told us that it was a good starter. We actually did really want our money back and even had our receipt but AutoZone would not honor their return policy
larryl
If your flex plate is turning and your crankshaft isnt you have a serious issue internally with that engine OhareFred

OhareFred
Then I agree with larryl, you have big time engine issues. Tow it to either the dealer or a mechanic. 2late4u
jkeaton
I third. You need to have it looked at by a professional. OhareFred
Armando G
This sounds like a bad situation. Hopefully you are under the 100K mile mark and the powertrain warranty will cover you. I believe that was the coverage in 2011. Otherwise you may be dealing with your torque converter. Good luck and let us know the result. jkeaton
OhareFred
Torque converter has nothing to do with starting your car. It takes the running engine and uses that to run your transmission (simplified version). The fly wheel, or flex plate, gets turned by the starter which causes your cranks shaft, cam shaft, etc to turn and the engineand then it starts (again, simplified version). If the starter is turning the fly wheel and the belt and pulleys do not move, something is broken between flywheel and pulleys at the front of the engine. jkeaton and mechanical-idiot

mechanical-idiot
Also, if it is an AWD model, don't tow it yourself. Have it towed on a flatbed. Towing it can screw the AWD gear in the arse end of it. Then you might as well just tow it to the junkyard because a 2011 with an arse end problem and an engine problem won't be worth fixing, unless you have a big bag of money in your basement. Good luck. mechanical-idiot OhareFred and jkeaton
