checkstr
Hi....Not sure where to put this post, so I'll leave it here. I have weird scraping type noise only heard inside the cabin of the car and when turning the steering wheel left and right. The best way for me to describe it would be to say that it sounds like the components behind the steering wheel is rusted and needs lubrication. I will try to get a sound clip of it. I thought maybe the clock spring, but all the steering buttons and horn works. The noise is definitely coming from behind the steering wheel/column. Any ideas? mechanical-idiot
The clock spring is part of the steering angle sensor. I just replaced mine. Cost about 600 bucks Canadian at the dealer. 3 hours to put in. Not cheap. The sensor was screwed, but the buttons and horn still worked. mechanical-idiot Edited May 23, 2019 by mechanical-idiot 2late4u
mechanical-idiot
https://www.youcanic.com/wiki/clock-spring One of the failure symptoms is a rubbing sound inside the cabin behind the steering wheel. Sounds like your problem. mechanical-idiot 2late4u
checkstr
Thanks....Looks like I'll be driving it until the buttons stop working. Did you buy the part from a dealer and install yourself, or did you have the dealer do it all?
mechanical-idiot
I purchased the part at the dealer. I had a mechanic install it at a garage. It was a 3 hour job. There are lots of online videos about how to install one. Basically it is the same procedure for all vehicles. I got a 2 year warranty on the part. It is not worth buying a used one at a salvage yard. I could have saved some $, but would have spent it again on labour if the second hand one screwed up. mechanical-idiot 2late4u
