OhareFred
Hey all. I’ve been fighting this for 9 months now. It’s a long story but wanted you all to know what I’ve been trying. Here we go..... From 08 till late 2018 the handsfree phone connections worked fine. Then the handsfree started dropping the call and sending it back to my IPhone 7. Repaired all the phones. IPhone 7 will pare and connect with UConnect hands free. You make a call, it starts out on hands free, but 20seconds to a minute later it self-switches back to the iPhone. Played around unpairing/repairing phones. Worked OK for a day or two, then the same thing. Also kept wanting to switch to French, couldn’t understand what we were saying. Took it to the dealer in May. Possible loose connection (fixed the French issue) but the Techs IPhone X paired right up and “worked fine”. It might be “a connectivity issue with your phone”. OK, on 3 different phones? Same issue with my phone THE NEXT DAY. Played around some more making sure phones are up to date. According to UConnect the system is running latest software. In June my son gets an IPhone 8. His won’t even pair. Deleated all the phones, get them all to pair after jagging around for an hour. He goes to take the DJ on a road trip, his phone isn’t there. Gone, forgotten. He tries to repair the phone, no go. He doesn’t drive the DJ much so we figure forget it. My wife’s IPhone 7 constantly doing the switching thing. Sometimes it self switches back to handsfree sometimes it won’t (she drives the DJ 98% of the time). Last week she gets an IPhone 8. It won’t pair. I deleted ALL the stored phones. NONE will repair. Time to disconnect the battery for an hour. 2 phones, an IPhone 7 & an a 8 pair up. Super. First time my wife uses the handsfree guess what. Disconnects from hands free and goes back to the IPhone. Maddening. I keep telling her the only way to fix this is to dump the DJfor another new Jeep Cherokee but she won’t go for that .... SO, I’m taking it back to Dodge (Lifetime Maxcare Warranty) next Tuesday. I say it has got to be the Bluetooth module, but the service writer keeps bringing up the “connectivity issue”. There is no way 4 different phones would have the exact same issue UNLESS it’s the car, right? Anyone else having this issue? Anyone get it fixed?? Summer Solstice
This is going to be pure speculation on my part as I don't have a problem here. One other common theme you mention is all the phones are Apple. Has there been a common software update lately from Apple? Have you tried an Android? Any reports on the internet about a software cliche recently? And just to rule it out, the key fob does interfer with the phone sometimes but you already know that. OhareFred
We’ve always had Apple phones and they worked from 2008 to 2018. All phones are updated to the latest software version (13.1 I believe). Also the same phones work perfectly in my Cherokee, which is also UConnect which is why I don't think it’s the phones. I don’t have an Android phone to try, and besides I’m not about to run out and buy new phones My 09 does not use a fob with a push button, you actually place the fob in the hole, if that makes sense. In my Cherokee it has a fob, which is usually clipped to my belt loop, but have had no interference from it with the phones. I haven’t heard anything about issues like this. I know the car is 11 years old, that’s why I’m thinking the BT module is going bad.

OhareFred
OK, a little update...NO IT ISN’T FIXED. Dealer check the handsfree module, no errors. Connected a Android phone and talked with no issues. Tried an iPhone 5, same problem. Not a hardware issue, it’s UConnects ancient software being 6 years behind the phones, nothing they could do. Opened a case with UConnect. They ‘checked into it’ for a few weeks. Got a call Friday, stating it’s a “connectivity issue” and not their problem. Apply needs to write software to make it work with their old ass UConnect software. SHOULDN’T IT BE THE OTHER WAY AROUND????? Yes, I have the latest UConnect software for my radio installed ( I checked, the dealer checked, UConnect checked). Just got off a chat with Apple. They gave me a few things to try (software 13.2), delete, repair, rename, etc and I will try all that, but not hopeful. Let them know if it works, if not they will escalate it to the tech dept. I guess my next step (if the Apple ideas don’t work) is to file a complaint against FCA because I have a MaxCare Lifetime Warranty covered factory item that doesn’t work, and they are basically telling me “sucks to be you”.... Stay tuned, updates will follow..... Edited October 30, 2019 by OhareFred 2late4u
2late4u
well sometimes things just dont work out for the best, since i dont use the phones in the car i have no idea other than can an aftermarket device make it work right... as you said it is 10 yrs old. OhareFred
Why would I pay for an aftermarket device when I have the factory installed option that IS UNDER WARRANTY that doesn’t work? If my HVAC blower goes out, which is also covered, should I be forced to go aftermarket because it’s 10 years old? See what I’m getting at? Yes,I can get an aftermarket stereo that has handsfree (bluetooth) that will work perfectly, but why should I pay $700 (the stereo is about $300, the rest is for a Sat tuner, which I currently have, and wire looms) and have to install it when UConnect simply doesn’t WANT to support my warrantied older system? It’s not a matter of things not working out, it’s a matter of UConnect doing what it feels like and FCA not honoring THEIR FACTORY LIFETIME WARRANTY. Maybe that’s why they don’t offer them anymore, but mine is still good.... Edited October 31, 2019 by OhareFred 2late4u

Not pissed at you by any stretch of the imagination. Was presenting my view of the issue. Just frustrated that FCA and UConnect keep tossing me like a ping pong ball hoping I’ll just go away, which is not going to happen. We are all good... 2late4u
Armando G
Awww, they're buddies again But on the serious side, I completely understand your frustration. I had a lifetime warranty on my old Mercury Cougar and 15 years after I bought it i had a similar issue, and they fixed it with no argument. I felt odd making the call about the warranty and got prepared for an argument, but they honored it with no questions asked. On a side note, I've noticed the Dodge Cares folks chiming in on some issues, but totally ignore others. Wondering how they pick and choose? I posted my tranny issue a few days ago, and nothing. Anyway, keep pushing for them to honor what they sold you... and you paid for. Good luck. OhareFred
larryl
I'm sure there is some stupid FINE print that says when it's outdated the warranty will not apply or some nonsense like that. Maybe Peugeot will be able to help you soon... Good Luck jkeaton and OhareFred
2late4u
well not trying to stir the pot but 10 yr old mechanical part that breaks can be replaced no problem but 10 yr old software updates on electronics is a whole another story look at window updates they only go back so far.and my chrome laptop with google i just recently found out they have a 3-5 yr end of life updates as well. it still works okay but no more security updates for it.of course they dont tell you this when you buy it... Good Luck wouldn't be surprised that such a clause does exist, and for the Peugeot merger, i hope it turns out better than the merger of equals did with Mercedes larryl

Your 10yr onld blower doesn't interact with with a newer ...anything. Although I do understand your frustration. Bluetooth is bluetooth. It's primarily hardware and backwards comparable. The "new" features just, obviously, aren't supported between the old - new, but basic connectivity shouldn't be an issue. But comparing it to a blower motor, just blowing air and an electronic component interacting with newer version, doesn't seem to be right. Have you tried using your old headphones with your new iPhone? You can't!!! We just paid $150 for some earpods for my kid to use on his iPhone... didn't have to, but our old headphones didn't work right. Blame Apple for your issues
