Brake light and Parking brake light

Brake light and Parking brake light flash on but are only on for 5 seconds.

They came on every once in a while but now they flash on more often. i am stopped and foot is on the brake when they flash on. Now that it is colder it is flashing on more often and sometimes when i am not even touching the brake.

I thought it just might be the sensor going and it thinks i am rolling (i am no professional)

Any thoughts?

Hi esligar18, We certainly understand why this may be concerning. We kindly recommend having your dealer inspect this concern for you as they are in the best position to assist. If you do work with your dealer, we would be more than happy to provide you with additional support.

more likely low fluid which also would assume you have a small leak or your brake pads are wore out or a brake caliper froze up and not working correctly ,,,get it checked out by a professional brake shop .......how many miles and have the brakes ever been changed front and rear???????

Thanks for the response guys!

Did look into it further and turns out that I did need brake fluid and quite a bit.

I have had my brakes checked several times and just got new tires which I had them look at the brakes while the tires were off and I've been told they are still good. Wouldn't they notice a leak if they were looking at them?

I have 115,000kms on it.

I'll keep monitoring the fluid to see if it does go down to signify a leak.

playing a dangerous game there doing that,,,, just take it into any good repair shop tell them what you found before you lose your braking ability and kill someone or yourself......tire changers are not looking for leaks and or dont care as they are being rushed to get the job done PLEASE have someone check it over most would probally do it free if they know they get to fix it......

You don't lose fluid in a sealed system unless you are leaking it out somewhere. Have it checked properly, and now, by someone qualified to work with this.

It could be a slow leak that is stable, or a line ready to burst. Brake line failures can be very sudden and catastrophic. I have seen a few.

Doesn't have to be a leak.I still haven't replaced my original brakes yet but they will be ready in the spring. But as the pads wear, the fluid level of course goes down and ours was tripping the brake light on when parked on an incline.

He did say he’s had the brakes checked several times and they are good. Guess it depends on the person checking them’s definition of “good”.

71475 miles vs 115000 km,,,brake pads should still be good  depends on what kind of driving style they have been subjected to i changed all mine at around that and they were still at half wore out to 3/4 wore out but i am easy on my brakes and did a lot of interstate driving   LOL my daughter would have had them wore down to the metal backings the way she drives,, pedal to metal and slam on the brakes type of driver
