G-Daddy
Hello fellow journey drivers. I have a concern about my 2015 journey sxt. I recently had the dealership put my snow tires on and since then I have had the check engine light come on twice. The first time I hooked up code reader and it said the engine coolant thermostat was not registering a temp even though thermostat gauge is normal and small screen shows temp is normal running temp. Realized coolant level was low and topped it up and problem went away for two weeks and is now returned. What should I check and is there any common parts that break and should be my first check thanks
Summer Solstice
If you are only getting an error code but no real problem the first suspect would be a faulty sensor reading. Temperature sensors go bad on any vehicle and is a good place to start if everything else is normal. jkeaton
G-Daddy
I will check that thank you. It seems so simple but I didn’t even think about it
2late4u
also since you were low on coolant, and this is a sealed system, either it came low from the factory which is a real possibility or you have a small leak somewhere keep an eye on your coolant level , also look over your coolant bottle for a crack and also might want to replace your rad cap as well two cheapest things to do first jkeaton
G-Daddy
Looked at fluid level and I topped it up three weeks ago to full cold and it has gone down too between full cold and full hot markers. No obvious cracks or leaks anywhere but will top it off and monitor for leaks or low level
2late4u
most slow leak loss is usually a water pump or the antifreeze coolant bottle on journeys have a known cracking problem check it after a long drive while it is sitting under hot pressure for leaks on the seams of your bottle,,the cracks wont be obvious...dont over heat the engine before finding your problem jkeaton and G-Daddy
nnngn_zero
My 2015 SXT developed a small leak in the plastic elbow going into the water pump (@ +/- 20k), and in the radiator (@ +/- 80k). The radiator leak was noticable as it would leave small puddles, and drain the coolant bottle in a couple of days. In searching on various forums, Journey radiators developing leaks are also common problems.
DonnyJerry
Not sure what engine you have but if it's the 2.4l check the plastic thermostat housing! Mine was leaking for awhile and I couldn't find from where! They are known for cracking! Word to the wise though if you have to replace it get the mopar one! At my dealer it's only $35 more and is much better! Had a Napa (Dorman) part at first and it failed after 3 months!! 2late4u
