aeroskies
I'm trying to install a backup camera on my 2016 Dodge Journey by tapping into the reverse light. The voltage at the lights with the engine on or off is only about 10.6 which is not enough to power the system. Why would the voltage be so low and is it possible to step it up? Or is there another location I can tap into so the camera only comes on when the vehicle is in reverse?
John/Horace
Welcome to the forum. Make sure to get a good ground for meter, scratch to bare metal if needed. Are back up lights led or just regular 12 volt bulbs. Transmissions have a back up sensor normally that sends signal to car that reverse is actuated. Not sure if it’s ground or power, I would guess powered 12 volt switch.
2late4u
because you have led lights on a 16 journey.
aeroskies
Lights are incandescent not LED. Voltage at the light socket is 10.6.

Any idea where that transmission sensor might be with power that I could tap into? On second thought that seems a little too complicated. Maybe I'll see if I get good voltage by tapping into the positive on the reverse light and directly to a good ground elsewhere. 2late4u
