DODGEbullets
I'm getting a loud hum from the belt side. I needed a jump to start it. Common sense tells me it's the alternator. It's just cents aren't very common here and I have one shot to fix it. The noise sound more like a vacuum than a bearing. Almost hollow sounding like blowing across a bottle. It does go up and down in pitch with the throttle. Any suggestions??
OhareFred
Well, instead of guessing and throwing parts at it, first things I would do is eliminate the battery and alternator by having them properly tested. Could be anything from what you described. Tensioner, ac compressor, bad belt, broken vacuum hose, see what Imean? Summer Solstice
^^ What he said. Often times auto part stores can be found that will test these items for free. If so inclined, you can remove the belt and hand turn accessible individual pulleys, such as the alternator and tensioner, and judge for yourself if they feel improper. 2late4u
also make sure you have a good seal on the air cleaner box since it sounds like a vacuum that goes up and down with the speed also any of the tubing and connections
