OhareFred
You need to give us ALOT more information like engine, fwd/awd, mileage, have you had it since new or did you get it used, what maintenance records do you have, any check engine lights, etc. What you describe has nothing to do with it being an suv, car, pickup, etc. it’s likely a transmission issue..... Summer Solstice
Get it scanned for the Check Engine Light code. It may be a simple sensor. Scan for the codes before doing anything else. If it is due for transmission service, fluid and filter change, do that after scanning for the codes. Only after doing the above, have it properly diagnosed at a reputable shop. If the estimate is for major repairs, get a second opinion at another reputable shop. jkeaton and OhareFred 1
OhareFred
Thank you for the info! As stated above, have it scanned for the engine code. Just because the light isn’t on does not mean it isn’t stored. Get the EXACT code when it’s read and let us know. ? jkeaton
larryl
It could be as simple as a tranny fluid and filter change if it has been sitting for a year and never had anything done to it in the last 10 yrs. 2late4u, OhareFred and jkeaton 1

If you're CE light is on, have you had it checked, or just ignored it? If your DJ isn't shifting, have you checked the fluid? Hell, did you get it checked before or after buying it, or just go by your friend's word? Is this your first car? Finally, how about some punctuation in your entry? This isn't texting.
