Machew
Hello everyone, I have an 2011 Journey with a v6 I've changed the oil pan because they *whom ever did maintenance before* torqued the pan plug too tight, so it ended up being rounded off. I removed the pan. Everything went normally while I was tightening the bolts that secure the pan to the engine, then one of the bolts snapped, mind you this happened a few months ago, and its about time to change the oil again. I've been meaning to switch/repair this bolt, but am having a hard time finding a part number for it. I have a few questions: 1. What will be the easiest way to extract the snapped bolt? 1.a what size extractor will be ideal? 2. What size or part number are the bolt/s I need for the repair? 3. Is it advisable to just go ahead and get a pan gasket to help alleviate the slight leak I am having now ? Thanks for your time!!
Armando G
Ok, here we go... - Don't know the size, but here is a link to the part # https://parts.northpointchryslerjeep.net/oem-parts/mopar-hex-head-bolt-and-coned-washer-mounting-6509210aa?c=bT0xJmw9MyZuPVJlY29tbWVuZGVkIFByb2R1Y3RzJms9MQ%3D%3D - Removing the broken one can be done by attaching an extension piece with Krazy Glue or JB Weld and patiently unscrewing with a wrench. Otherwise drill it out carefully without ruining the thread. -YES, change the gasket Did you get the drain plug out? Or are you doing an oil change by removing the pan? You may want to consider just getting a new pan. If the drain plug was over tightened, it may develop a leak if the threads were warped. 2late4u
John/Horace
Confusing. Probably M4 just bring one to a good auto parts store and they can match it. If one bolt is missing/snapped it will probably leak there even with a new gasket. With pan off the old bolt will need to be drilled out and tapped for a new bolt. Hope it doesn’t snap off flush, with pan off might be able to get vice grips on stub. 2late4u
