DealGirl19
I recently acquired (by repossession) a 2016 Dodge Journey with the smaller 4.3 screen display. The screen does not work. HOWEVER, I have power for the A/C and all the controls on the lower area. I just can't control where the vents blow and the radio doesn't work. Here is what I have completed so far. 1. check and changed all fuses that were related (three total, plus found that cigar lighter fuse was blown and changed it after seeing wiring diagram that it could be possibly be connected to the power of the radio/screen) 2. bought a replacement screen on ebay that has a warranty and has been checked. Still black when I plug in. (could it possibly need programmed by Dodge?) 3. disconnected and reconnect all cables for all three pieces (screen, middle control unit, plus radio unit inside). 4. held eject button for 5 seconds 5. held volume and tuner button in together for 10 seconds 6. Disconnected negative battery terminal for 30 minutes I"m not looking to invest alot and would like to stay away from a dealership. I just want to make the vehicle sellable as i'm already losing over $5k with the repo. Any ideas what can be wrong? Should i replace the radio and/or the module in the picture where the lights are for the a/c? 2late4u
needs to be check with a meter to see if power is present when activating the buttons..... OhareFred and Armando G
Armando G
I'm more curious about the repo story... but agreed, check for power first to the whole system. If you have power then something wrong with the unit. OhareFred

How do i do that? I checked the plug going INTO the Silver unit in the middle of that pic and it reads that it has power. But i'm not sure how to check when activating the buttons. That would be super helpful if you can explain!
OhareFred
If you are sure the unit is getting power when the car is running and in acc position, and you are sure you didn’t get a bad eBay unit, maybe try this. Disconnect the battery cables for 30-40 mins. This seems to cure ALOT of DJ electronic issues. If you checked all the fuses and they are good, if you are sure the unit is getting proper voltage, and it still is DOA, either the unit is bad or there is a bigger issue... let us know
DealGirl19
I ended up disconnecting the battery for 24 hours. Didn’t work ?. I am going to order the radio unit and see if that’s the issue. That’s the only part that receives power. Ive changed fuses, checked the voltage going in. I have no way to check the voltage coming out. This is so frustrating and hard to figure out!
2late4u
sounds like you have already spent more $$ than going to a dealership or a radio repair place, replacing parts using the shotgun method gets expensive, good luck and report back what you find out jkeaton
OhareFred
I agree. Better to pay the dealer $150 and have them tell you exactly what’s wrong then...guessing. Hopefully it works out for you!
DealGirl19
It’s fixed! It was the Telematics Gateway Module (TGM) silver box in the middle of the pic. I ordered one for $29 on eBay and the old screen worked perfect. The screen I bought was only $125 and returnable so really I didn’t spend a lot on it. Just a lot of my time testing a million different things. 2late4u
