The Salmon
Hello, All! Just completed replacing the oil pressure sensor on my 2012 DJ 3.6. I also replaced the spark plugs while I was in there. I was very careful and did not drop anything into the intake. that said, when I started it up, it began to rap back near #1. It sounds like a bent valve. Again, it was difficult to locate the rapping while the engine was running, but using my probe it sounds like it's back by #1. The engine is not missing, shaking or missing if I accelerate to around 3000RPM. I am stumped. I did nothing to that area except replace a spark plug!! With the probe, the Loud ticking almost seems to be stronger at the cam phaser. Any thoughts??
John/Horace
Unfortunely you should probably go right back in there and make sure the plugs are torqued properly. Did you use a torque wrench to install them? I have seen the platinum tip fall off a new plug after a few days before; but it caused a cyclinder misfire code only. The tiny point was fired out the exhaust valve and never damaged any thing. A loose plug however will rattle and rapidly damage threads. You don’t want to have to install a heli coil to fix a damaged thread after driving a week. My 2 cents, free advice worth everything you pay for it. 5rebel9
Agreed, IF it didn't make that noise before doing work one needs to go right back in(as much of a pain that it is) and RECHECK work done. From your post, I gather that below 3k rpm that is does miss and shake???? Something is DEFINITELY wrong if this is the case.
2late4u
agree with the above, yrs ago my daughter called me and said dad i think my transmission is going bad, said it was shaking and not driving right and seemed like the eng had a miss i went out there took it for a quick drive actually ran okay at idle but when driving you could feel it shake and hesitate went back and got to checking and one of her back side spark plug had loosened up as i could wiggle it a bit by reaching around to it, went and bought her some new ones put them in and it fixed the problem
